What about having one for each of the upcoming shows? Someone who attended the gig could sum it up for the rest of us the way he experienced it.

This idea I like a lot! That's what I usually do when I go to shows anyway! I would definitely want to write about the show, especially since it's my first one.

Do you know how many editorial that would be? Well A LOT.

Since there's a lot of interest in a recap for the trilogy, how about we do it this way. If you would like to do it, send me a sample paragraph (via PM) of how you'd write it. First give me a simple idea of the things you'd like to cover in the editorial, then write a paragraph no more than 5-7 sentences just so I can get a sample of your writing, tone, etc.. Then I'll pick someone by Thursday to actually do it. I'm excited that many of you would like to :)

What is PM? Messaging?

I would love to see someones take on the IheartRadio incident. Kinda to see if they think it was punk or not, the worst tragedy of green day history, and what they thought about the rehab afterwards

I love the trilogy and love to write. I might participate in this.

Could we do something about the return of Green Day, and whats expected on the trilogy tour or what fans would like to see. Maybe discuss how we feel about what Billie mentioned in the RS article on his not-so-sober performances, and what we think might be different this time around? Good and bad? I'd really love this opportunity.

I'd like to avoid focusing on his rehab. I think that's his personal story and would rather we not try to editorialize it.

This past December, I did a review on the trilogy for my college newspaper, and I would love to share with you, and feel free to give feedback! Hope you enjoy

"Green's Day's Trilogy is a breath of fresh air and a Dose of Rock N Roll"

For the past decade, it seemed that mainstream rock music was losing it's edge to a bunch of silly one hit wonders, and over produced, and auto tuned pop artists (i.e Justin Bieber, Ke$ha, etc.). Yet surprisingly over these last few years, there has been a bit of a revival in Rock music, and it's great to hear that genre of music being played on the radio agan.

Newer bands and older rock bands having been making their surge into the mainstream world, and band's such as The Foo Fighters, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, The Gaslight Anthem, The Black Keys, The Arctic Monkeys, Metallica, Blink 182, The Killers, Mumford & Sons, Bob Dylan, Guided By Voices, Bruce Springsteen, and Jack White are just a few of the many Rock Band's who have made a significant impact in the Rock scene with these past few year's with their terrific albums, and helped to put "Rock N Roll" back on the map.

But when the legendary California Punk Rock band, Green Day, announced in April of 2012 that they would be releasing a trilogy of album's entitled "Uno!", "Dos!", and "Tre!" within five months (down to four after "Tre!" was released in December of last year instead of January of 2013), it was a stunning and exciting news for their fans (such as myself), as well one of the most ambitious moves for one of the biggest Rock band's in the world.

For the members of Green Day, which includes Lead Guitarist/Vocalist/and songwriter Billie Joe Armstrong, Bassist Mike Dirnt, Drummer Tre Cool, and Rhythm Guitarist Jason White, the three albums were a lyrical departure from the bands Grammy Award winning, politically driven albums "American Idiot" (2004), and "21st Century Breakdown" (2009). These new albums gave us the classic vintage Green Day sound that we fell in love with in 1992 with "Kerplunk", and in 1994 with "Dookie", but the albums also explored a variety of different sounds and styles that Green Day hasn't touched before. "Let Yourself Go" is full out, classic Green Day, with a mix of influences from The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and Iggy Pop, "Kill The DJ" sounds like The Clashes "The Magnificent Seven", "Sweet 16" depict's the early sound's of Jersey Shore Rock, while "Oh Love" drives between the sounds of Queen and The Who (perferably "Who's Next"), with Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and John Cougar Mellencamp. The first album, "Uno!", has the Pop//Rock sound that helped give Green Day succsess in 1994 with their third album, and major label debut "Dookie", the second album "Dos!" is the "party" album that's complete with a raw Garage Rock sound that's similar to The Strokes and The Hives, and third and final album "Tre!", is the "Nimrod" of the three albums, it's an experimenental album that ranges from Punk Rock to Pop Rock to Glam Rock to Sweeping Ballads.

"Dos!", starts off with "See You Tonight" which sounds like a lost Simon & Garfunkel tune, "Stop When The Red Lights Flash" is a drving classic rock sound that could've been off of The Rolling Stones "Exile On Main Street", "Wild One" mixes between the sounds and the influences of Elvis Presley, David Bowie, and The Doors, "Nightlife" grooves like a sexy and sleazy 70's Roxy tune, with a collaboration rap from "Mystic Knights Of The Cobra" Lady Cobra, and "Amy", which is a tribute to the late Amy Winehouse, liken's to The Beatles "And I Love Her".

"Tre!" starts off with the Gospel driven "Brutal Love", which has begins with a ragtime piano, and drives into a hungover sound that ranges from Nazerth's "Love Hurts" and R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts", with the sounds of Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, and end's on with a Queen/Glam Rock influenced sound, "Missing You" explorers the Adult Contemporary Rock field, "8th Avenue Serenade", "X-Kid", "A Little Boy Named Train", and the six minute gem "Dirty Rotten Bastards", also resembles the Pop/Punk sound that has made Green Day famous for over the years, but "Dirty Rotten Bastards" drives on the Irish/drinking sound's of The Pogues and Dropkick Murphys, mixed with a hardcore Punk sound, a face off of instrumental solos from Mike Dirnt and Billie Joe, who rip's on a guitar solo that sound's like something that Eddie Van Halen, Rhandy Rhoads, and even Jimmy Page would have done in their hey-day, "99 Revolutions" is a Punk-driven, "call to arms" about the Occupy Wallstreet movement that mixes The Clash with Cheap Trick, and "The Forgotten" which ends the trilogy, is a Piano driven ballad that resembles John Lennon's "Mind Games", and with a beautifully arranged Tom Kitt orchestration, end's the trilogy on a high note.

All in all, these three new Green Day album's will not dissapoint, there is a little of everything that can make even the average fan excited. This is the new era for the band t hat show's their true passion for making music. While the band is seemingly not touring for these albums at the moment because of Armstrong being in rehab, I remembered their gradiose performance this past year at the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame, where they opened up the ceremonies with "Letterbomb", in which Armstrong breaks down during the instrumental bit saying that "This is not a party, this is a celebration mother f***ers". Maybe the release of the three albums was the party, but that whenever their tour starts up again during this next year, that will be the band's celebration of their great work.

I know. It's not like you have to read every single one, but for the people who were there it's special. Maybe there isn't even someone who's interested to write one for every show, so I wouldn't see that as a problem.

For the show idea one , people can just send theirs in and then the mod team can pick which one they like best...like who has the most interesting angle or something. I still think it would be interesting.

I'd like to avoid focusing on his rehab. I think that's his personal story and would rather we not try to editorialize it.

feel like it's a bit bias not to talk about it. It is a personal story but he did share it, so we're allowed to have our take on it, using what he did share with us and without making assumptions. Feel like it's what everybody's thinking anyway. I wouldn't focus on rehab, it would be moving on from that and whats expected. But I respect your opinion and I'll keep thinking.

So did we decide what the first editorial entry is going to be about? Or can we just send samples of what we would like to write about?

This sounds like a good idea, and one I would be interested in. Tell me when the definite topics come out. I like writing, but I'm shitty with thinking about things to write about.
