Alanis Morissette covers "Basket Case"

She delivered that with a shocking amount of emotion. It felt like I was watching a funeral. Thankfully I was not.

AT one or two moments I thought it looked like she is ready to cry, but not having seen the rest of her performance I think it is just as likely that is just me reading my own emotions into it. Although the performance was definitely emotional.

That's a really sweet way to show her support, she could have done one of her songs but decided to do this cover, great!

Okay. I loved her and her music when I was a kid and still do now and it's pretty thoughtful and sweet of her to do that but DAMN Basket Case is not meant to sound all depressing like that.

I've never liked her voice, but that was a really awesome thing for her to do. Bravo, Alanis.

It ticked me off...

Here is why:

1. Billie Joe cut that song short to do his rant at the iheartradio festival.

2. She made a quick laugh after saying " We Love you Billie Joe."

3. He is in rehab and the song says "or am I stoned."

It was a poor choice in songs to cover.

I knew her before and had watched her on TV but never listened to her songs. Now I'm her fan. This performance moved me. I got devastated when GD's performance was canceled but after watching this I feel great now.

Horrible cover, but it doesn't matter. It was purely genuine and THAT was beautiful in itself. The simple "we love you Billie Joe" at the end- ahh, killed me.

That was a beautiful rendition, and a very classy gesture on Alanis' part. I wonder if she and her band already had that in the holster, or if it was arranged/rehearsed in the few days between iHeart debacle and the Kimmel appearance?

If you think about it it is maybe not that strange, they both became popular in the 90s and have some iconic angry/punchy songs for the decade.

And Rob Cavallo produced some of her albums I think? Don't know if this has already been said.....

I actually thought the cover was superb.

I think this was such a sweet and classy thing for her to do. She did a great job with the song IMO, but even if some didn't care for it I think the main point is that it was just a very, very nice gesture.
