Laura! Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Finally sent mine in. I hope it isn't too late! Here's mine: Dear Billie Joe, Thank you. I could go on and on telling you how much you and the rest of Green Day has helped and how much you guys mean to me. For seven years now I have admired and respected you and the rest of the band. Your lyrics have helped me through some pretty tough times in the last seven years. I remember putting on American Idiot after my first college roommate had threatened me. I was scared, homesick and after I put on that album I gained strength to stand up for me and not let her walk all over me. Let’s just say, I won that battle. That’s just one instance where you have helped me out, one of many. Now it’s my turn to help you. I don’t think I can ever repay you in full, but I’m going to damn well try. I know you have your family and friends with you in person. But I hope you know that there are millions of fans from all over who are supporting you, who want you to recover quickly, I am one of those millions. We love you, Billie Joe; we want to see our favorite frontman in front of a crowd, holding them in the palm of his hand again. I have confidence in you, Billie Joe; I know I’m going to see you on January 30th in Cleveland Ohio. I wish you the best in your battle with your demons. We, your fans, are with you every step of the way. Never forget that. Rage & Love, Laura, Ohio
Anja Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Here's mine: Billie, words cannot express what your music means to me. It has not only changed my life for the better, but it has also brought me to places in the world I never imagined going to. From the US to the UK I have travelled to be part of a wonderful musical journey which has forever changed the way I see myself in this world and I cannot wait to see where it's going to take me next. Through your music, I have also made lots of friends from all over the world that have become a second family to me. People whose language I may not speak but who I communicate with through your music, your lyrics. Thank you for teaching me how to live, for teaching me that it's okay to be my true self and for showing me that nothing is impossible if only you believe in yourself. I know there is nothing I can do to return what you have given me and countless other people over the years but to send you my love and best wishes! We all miss you dearly and hope to see you back on the road very soon!! Take care! Much love from Germany, Anja

gmcloughlin Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Right, mine is pretty personal so I wasn't gonna post it, but here it is: Billie, Two years ago this coming Saturday, I was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia. I was 17, and had just experienced the greatest summer of my life after travelling between the UK and Ireland to see Green Day perform several times. Within days, I was transferred to a specialist unit in Dublin where I soon began chemotherapy. I knew from day one that if I was ever going to be cured, I would have to have either a bone marrow or stem cell transplant, and so I completed two cycles of chemo, underwent total body irradiation (after surviving pneumonia in February), and eventually had my unrelated stem cell transplant on 9th March 2011. Throughout that entire nightmare, I had your music to comfort and encourage me. The morning I decided to shave my head, I had American Idiot blaring in the background as a reminder of the countless times I blasted that album, or plucked along on the guitar, back at home. I almost pity the other patients on that ward. Almost every morning, I listened to a Green Day album from start to finish. They reminded me of better times and helped to keep my spirits high. Just a week after my transplant, Awesome As F*ck was released and I got to relive a part of the happiest time of my life as I listened to three live tracks that I had been apart of the crowd for just months previously. It did not feel like it had only been a matter of months since all of this had happened. And so I slowly began my recovery, and little by little life began to return to normal, when lo and behold, Green Day announced a surprise gig in London last month. I dropped everything and booked flights and a hotel right away (without getting a ticket) and anxiously waited the following morning for 9am to arrive so I could attempt, and somehow succeed, in getting a ticket. It was at the show that I realised just how far I have come in the two years that have passed since my last Green Day gig, and at one point I was overcome with emotion, but it was mostly pure joy. Billie, your music has meant so much to me over the last few years, from my father's death due to a rare type of cancer in September 2008 to my own cancer journey. My only hope is that hearing of how your music helped me to get through my struggle may help you in some way to get through yours. Love and support always, Gillian, Ireland.
Zalex Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 This is absolutely ridiculous. Why does he need support? There's nothing wrong with him. He's just being forced to do this rehab for publicity so it looks like he is doing something apologetic. This whole thing is a publicity stunt. I can't even believe you all "support" this shit.
mies Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I wanted to draw a nice picture for Billie... then i remembered i can't draw, so this happened Oh god why... dont think i should send it in haha! Looks really cute actually I made this to show support from the Indian Green Day Community And, I've written a letter as well. I like it The drawing i send,

Honestly, people don't really need a reason to write/send Billie Joe letters telling him how much he means to them. They do it all the time, for the hell of it. Just to express their gratitude and show their appreciation. Why should now be any different? If you don't want to send him anything, that's fine, but you probably should just avoid the thread then.

When you speak to billie again tell him he owes me a fiver. I mean I gather you must know him pretty well given how damn sure if all this are.

I mean I gather you must know him pretty well given how damn sure if all this are. Seriously guys, please, don't start arguments here. This thread doesn't need to turn into what the other one was. This is a thread for Kerrang letters, plain and simple. If people want to post their drawing or letter here, they can do that. If they don't, they can just leave the thread alone. I'm actually kind of starting to wish the old thread had stayed open so people could post these kind of comments in there, with the rest of the debates, rather than having them crop up in other threads.
Mandy_PunkRock Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 Here's mine: Dearest Billie, I don't know you, but I feel like I'm writting this letter to my best friend. I can't express with words how grateful I am. Green Day have changed my life, you guys, mean a lot to me. I fell in love with your music since the first time I heard American Idiot, I immediately became a huge fan. I was surprised for such an excellent masterpiece. Every album is great, you really know how to make the songs sound catchy and how to write very deep lyrics. Your music has helped me a lot through the difficult moments I have had and always encouraged me. You are a true tallented artist, you are my inspiration, you taught me to be myself. I really admire you, you are a great person. I can't be more thankful. Now I wish you all the best and I give you all my support through this recovery progress. All the fans are thinking on you everyday and supporting you. We want to see you on the stage again kicking some asses! Best wishes to you, your family and friends! I must say that the new album ¡Uno! is absolutely awesome! Get well soon, Billie! We love you! So much love from Spain, Amanda Merino
spark in the night Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 I can't put my feelings into words
Chris P FaFu Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 So I tweeted the editor from Kerrang! Magazine who emailed me asking for a higher quality picture.. to ask him if my resubmitted version was good enough.. he tweeted me back.. "It should be " Dying. So awesome.
anniewoo Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I wanted to draw a nice picture for Billie... then i remembered i can't draw, so this happened Oh god why... dont think i should send it in haha! oh my god i love this <3
belinda jane Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I can't put my feelings into words This exactly. I can't even describe how much he and the band has done for me. It's probably best I don't try.. haha.
DorsetGirl Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I'm a lot older than many people here so Green Day weren't the band that saw me through my teenage years, but they've still had a huge effect on my life. This is what I sent: Dear Billie, Since I discovered Green Day four years ago I’ve never wanted to listen to anyone else’s music. Your 23rd October concert at the O2 in 2009 was probably my first music gig since Queen in 1975 - I’m fifty-five years old and quite likely Boring As Fuck, but that night was instrumental in helping me to see myself as a person with a life of my own still to lead, rather than just a middle-aged mum secondary to my kids’ lives. This morning I told my kids they’d better hope the trains were running OK because there was no way they were getting a lift to school - I had more important things to do making sure I got my ticket for Emirates next June. I love you guys for that change in me and, Billie, I know your words have helped so many people through a lot of difficult times. Anyone who’s ever stood on a stage understands some of the special pressures on the frontman, and I think we can all guess at the commercial problems and increasing corporate control all musicians are facing at the moment. Whatever’s really going on with you at the moment, you have my love for what it’s worth. You can do anything you put your smart mind to, and I hope you get to a good place in your head very soon.
EmmaCharlatan&Saints Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 thanks yuan!!!!!! Wow. Awesome This is absolutely ridiculous. Why does he need support? There's nothing wrong with him. He's just being forced to do this rehab for publicity so it looks like he is doing something apologetic. This whole thing is a publicity stunt. I can't even believe you all "support" this shit. You are stupid for believing its a publicity stunt.. Really do you honestly think Green Day would sink to that level.. If you think its to sell more records then you are stupid. Artists dont make half their money off physical cd's these or even downloads its all about touring. Theyve cancelled shows so yeah they would actually be loosing money so that would be a pretty stupid pr stunt wouldnt it. IDIOT!

All of your letters are touching
Esha97 Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I just sent a letter, will billie joe be reading these?
DorsetGirl Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I just sent a letter, will billie joe be reading these? I doubt it - I'm guessing Kerrang's office junior will be trawling through them to pick out 3 or 4 for the magazine. If they decide to run a story they may pick out some quotes from as many as possible, and Billie might see that story, but I don't think it's very likely tbh. Will you be sharing your letter here? Some of them are so eloquent and beautiful, he really should read them!
