Are We The Waiting? Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 i agree with how it gets kinda annoying with girls swarming over billie joe. but i can care less as long as they're not only into green day just because of how "hot" the band is. (coming from a male's perspective, i'm judging from some other women that they think green day is hot.) i just hate the ones that will get heart attacks if tre stage dived next to them, mike looks at them, or if billie smiles at them at a show.
.:Whatsername:. Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Sometimes, I wish I was a guy Green Day fan just so I wasn't automatically thrown in with the "she just thinks Billie Joe is hot" group. It's really annoying. It happens way more in real life with people who just don't get why I would love a band this much though. I don't really notice when I'm at concerts or anything (or even here) but I guess I can sort of see it, although I think that any fangirls of the band will eventually get over any obsessions and move on to something else, so I don't think I would call those kinds of fans a part of the real fan base... if you know what I mean.
eastbayweirdo Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I've been a fan since I was a little kid, and when I first started listening to them, I didn't pay attention to what they looked like. It's always been about their music for me. Their good looks are just a plus. Yes, there are a lot of annoying little teenie boppers that "loooove" the band, but that's pretty much the case for every band now a days sadly.
The Platypus! Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Most members on here are girls, but I don't think it really matters as long as they like Green Day .
-Billiejoezee- Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 At Irvine, I saw a 20-something year old punk male with a short mohawk screaming, 'I Love You, Billie." Dude was as straight as an arrow, too. YES!! this is exactly why I said there are alot of guys like that where I live. Because the majority of male fans here in los angeles are like that. I always see guys screaming those things at all the gd la shows I've been too. Including irvine. Yeah who gives a fuck....this just proves us girls have good fuckin taste in music, and if people really are going to go to a concert just to stare at the band then thats a waste of money and I truly doubt that people do that....I'm pretty sure that these so called 'teenies' are huge fans, they are just overflowed with teenage emotion and hormones...it goes with the age. I'm pretty sure everyone (unless they're a critic) is going to a Green Day show cuz they love Green Day and their music. If not then that's fucked..but I don't think that's the case...I just can't bring my self to believe people could be that stupid. Oh my god I love you. I'm a girl and I love Green Day. I scream whenever I see the band. And you know what I'm not ashamed of my obsession and I'm not a teenie. You know what this reminds me of? Beatlemania
Kayfabe Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I won't flame you, because what you're saying is entirely true. There is a thread on here asking how old you are and what age group you're in, the vast majority of us are like 12-25 year old females, it's quite spooky. I think since American Idiot, Green Day have been 'girly-fied' by the BOYS, in fact. Because Green Day isn't real punk etc and you must be gay if you listen to Green Day and not Korn/Slipknot whoever.
-Billiejoezee- Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I just find it EXRREMELY sad that 12-14 year old girls can't go to a green day concert without people looking at them as teenies or "big fans". Stereotyping sucks dick. Plus, WHO CARES if they scream? That's just a way of expressing their emotions and love for the band. People look is us down as if were new fans. Fuck no. You can be 30 and be a green day fan for about two years while I'm 14 and i've been a fan for the pass 7 years. Longer than you. So I just don't understand what's the problem. You don't know if it's the girls first and last green day show. The emotion she gets for seeing her idols in person so close to her. It's a magical feeling. As if nothing can stop you and you're in heaven. Of course the girl would want to make the best out of it and try to get their atention. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. If you've never felt that magic at your first green day concert, then I'm sorry.
KatherineKerplunk Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I love Green Day for their music. They have brought out something that is completely different to other punk bands and put it into mine and other peoples hearts. As long as girls like Green Day for their music like the girls here on GDC then i am happy. Yes the guys are attractive but I don't go to concerts to waste money on looking at them, im there to have a good time like everyone else. To the girls who are only there because they are attractive they can Fuck off!

YehItsRyan Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Personally I think that there is a higher percentage of teenagers that like Green Day nowadays and not just girls. 21st CB brought in a lot more teenage fans than any other album have Green Day released. A few of those teenage fans maybe like the odd song and don't know Green Day to a fuller extent and when asked if they like Green Day they only know the singles and the ones which have been chart hits. At least there are some new fans who go back into Green Day's music and research them and get really into them (like myself) and appreciate what their music means and what messages the band is getting across. So as long as they are really getting into Green Day's music, actually being a 'proper' fan and not just a poser who wants to fit in, it's all cool
Margo 39 smooth Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I dont think that you can say Green Day is band that has teenie fans. All bands are gonna have those, and just cause they're there, dosnt mean that thats the bands main fanbase. Its just something you gotta deal with and ignore if it bugs you.
Rosie May Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 21st CB brought in a lot more teenage fans than any other album have Green Day released. I'd say AI brought in more teenage fans than 21cb. Green Day were far more popular in 2005 than they are now.
Miss Hedgie Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I'm a girl and I like good music end of. Agreed. I'm there at their gigs for the music.
jos_whatsername Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 this thread is about what i was thinking too, recently. but when i look back at my experiences, how i became a fan and stuff.. it really had nothing to do with me being a girl. i got introduced to them, went to my first show, loved them. i could have done it exactly the same way if i was a boy.. and yes, i'm a teenage girl. but i just think.. a lot of teenagers are fed up with pop music some day and so some start to explore rockmusic. i dont think that it has soo much to do with green day itself. and i even think they are more green day fans who are like 20 or something? because as someone already mentioned, AI was more popular, and that fits perfectly if those guys were teenagers during AI and now they're about 20.
Teenage Kicks! Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 *does the fish dance* watch out for lucky dog! haha

Maybe they should just enjoy the show instead of worrying about whether what other people are doing is cool or not
Guest Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I became a GD fan in early 1994 at the age of 12. Good music has no age or gender limit on it. It's not like "You must be this tall to ride this ride".
Peace and Rainbows Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I really don't care, good music is good music, no battle of the sexs

Maybe they should just enjoy the show instead of worrying about whether what other people are doing is cool or not The thing that bothers me is when the band noticeably winces at the screaming. Like when Manda (sorry Manda) let out a huge scream at 924 Gilman when Billie Joe walked in with his equipment for the Pinhead show... He was walking right next to me at the time, and I could completely see how utterly uncomfortable he was. He shrank and looked really embarrassed... and the entire venue just fell completely silent for a moment, and was like, oh shit, really? It was like getting stabbed with a knife through the head, only without the blood. lol. Just not the time or place for it, IMHO. When I went to see American Idiot recently there were four teenage girls sitting next to me and Tre was sitting in our row at the end. They talked through the ENTIRE show about Tre, until finally I had to turn around and ask them to shut up. There is a time and place for it, Gilman and me sitting next to these girls trying to watch a play wasn't the time for it, personally.

And even in those other places, I think you just have to accept that not everyone is going to be savvy about what's appropriate. It's helpful to let them know for future reference like you did but it's not something I'd really be annoyed by, I'm pretty sure the band can handle a bit of silliness from overexcited fans. It can be inappropriate but ultimately it's harmless. I don't know, I just find people constantly moaning about "teenies" more annoying than "teenies" could ever be . Especially as the teenies in question usually aren't affecting their life in any way.

It wasn't a Green Day show... it was a Pinhead show which is a different animal from Green Day, lol... that's why Aaron was so annoyed during the whole night... well, not just because of that, he was just annoyed, lol. But I did ask the girls in the theater three times politely to keep it down. The fourth time, I wasn't so polite. I don't moan about them constantly, but I did want to point out examples where it's utterly annoying.

Oh yeah absolutely, I said I think it's appropriate at a Green Day show because Green Day shows are what I was talking about in my original post. And I wasn't referring to you as one of those moaning people, lol. I'm just talking about people who moan about "teenies" at Green Day shows.

And I dont think green day minds about the screams. Just don't do it in intimate gigs.

I think once the music starts at the intimate gigs, it's fine. The show hadn't even started at Gilman, yet. It was actually kinda quiet at the time. Haha, oh, February 2010 seems so long ago...

People can't get over ageism, good music is for all ages so for those of you trying to out an age limit of rock n roll, you guys can fuck off!!! I've liked Green Day since I was 9 years old (mostly toyl) and I'm fucking proud that I still love them today. I don't really think you will find any of these so called teenies on GDC, just chicks who have fandome moments...and you guys have them too! I always see a bunch of guys going on about how hot this female celebrity is or whatever so the difference is, is that the people who scream like little girls for Green Day are not just screaming for there asses or whatever we're screaming for the music! Hopefully this will be my last rant
