AnnA™ Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 And to think most Green Day fans I know are guys... I see where you're coming from though, but as been said it can't really be measured on forums and such. There are stereotypical fangirls who scream the loudest and for that reason get to represent a big part of the fan base in some cases. Then there are guys who don't express it as much. There are all kinds, and we all express it differently, so it's hard to really say. It depends on where you look, but I don't think the ratios are as uneven as they sometimes appear to be. Not that it matters though.
Slappy. Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Well from all the shows I've been to I think there's been an equal amount of boys and girls. I think girls are more likely to queue up to be at the front, but sometimes its more about just wanting to have a good view rather than fangirling over Billie. I don't think its fair when people say that girls only like Green Day because Billie is hot, yes theres always some, but I think a lot of girls are more drawn to the lyrics, and just wanna rock out to some fucking good music, instead of the average person that listens to Justin Bieber. From my point of view, I think more girls should listen to Green Day as they have brought out a confidence in me that I never knew I had, and given me to ability to stand up for myself.
Rosie May Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I notice on GDC there seems to be alot more girls, but at any of the shows I've been to it's been fairly varied. I think as well, it seems like, generally girls are more likely to join forums etc. I think most of the girls on here mainly love the music and finding one of the band members (or all of them) attractive comes second to that.
Margo 39 smooth Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I'm a 14 year old girl and i hate always being perceived as a fangirl/teenie because of my age and gender. Yes the guys are hot, but there's plenty of bands with hot guys that i could love. But i dont, because no band makes music as great as Green Day and thats why i'm a fan. Them being attractive is just a bonus so just cause fangirls and teenies tend to be 12-14 however old, dosnt mean we all are. Aaaannndd when i went to a show i saw alot more guys than girls around me and me, my brother, and my friend seemed to be some of the youngest around. And we were in the pit (2nd row)

I hate that if you're a girl of a certain age you feel like you have to "prove" that you're a real fan or something.
Tubbie Head Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 That's cause guys are stupid or Guys usually don't like good looking men bands. ahah Yes, Some GD fans are girls that only like them because they (or BILLIYYYY ) are good looking, and that they are aired on mtv. That's a shame, but I don't care about them, 'cause I know there are always going be true fans like us. I still think GD fans are very varied.
abattlecry Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Idk, I'm a 'teenie' fan, I guess. I think Billie is the HOTTEST gut EVER too. But I heard the music, and loved it before I came to that conclusion. So, really, you shouldnt stereotype. (plus, I would lovelovelove another record like dookie)

Nele Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Funny, at all concerts I went to boys were screaming like crazy too and wanted get attention from band members the whole time. After the show they normally pretend they stayed cool during the whole concert. Generally, I'd say, the majority of girls are listening to popular music and what's in ~hot at the moment. With 21st Century Breakdown Green Day really brought out a good and popular record, and to me, their most mainstream record. That shows up when most of the "kiddies" only know the lyrics of the new, American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown songs. And I'd say if Green Day's next album would be a more punky record like Dookie or Insomniac, the amount of girls at concerts will decrease. Why should it decrease? I promise, we girls can have good music taste, too. And even if they make a record that sounds like Insomniac, the next GD album's still going to be popular no matter what.
abattlecry Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted twice and I can't figure out how to delete it.... Sorry!
Stormy Haze Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Why can't people just enjoy Green Day's music, regardless of age and sex?
abattlecry Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 I also think that Billie is the hottest gut Guy. *facepalm* stupid tiny iphone keyboard.
21st century idiot Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Hmmm more girls at the shows huh? well guess who doesn't have a problem with this? THIS GUY!!!! I got to the shows for the band and their music, the girls are just a nice bonus for me.
GDM Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 At Irvine, I saw a 20-something year old punk male with a short mohawk screaming, 'I Love You, Billie." Dude was as straight as an arrow, too. While this doesn't blow your argument out of the water, it adds a little perspective. Guys are still listening to Green Day, and if you go to the statistics section on Green Day Youtube videos, you'll see that most of the stats say boys between the age of 13-19 or something look at the videos the most. Sure, there are a lot of younger girls getting into Green Day, but there are a lot of older women, like me, as well. I am not a fangirl for the most part. I love GD's music, and yes, they are handsome, too. Anyway, I've been to 14 GD shows over the last year, and yea, there are girls there, but there were guys, as well. I am not sure if you can make a distinction about the demographics of GD fans changing just by looking alone, but I don't know.
Izzard Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Yeah who gives a fuck....this just proves us girls have good fuckin taste in music, and if people really are going to go to a concert just to stare at the band then thats a waste of money and I truly doubt that people do that....I'm pretty sure that these so called 'teenies' are huge fans, they are just overflowed with teenage emotion and hormones...it goes with the age. I'm pretty sure everyone (unless they're a critic) is going to a Green Day show cuz they love Green Day and their music. If not then that's fucked..but I don't think that's the case...I just can't bring my self to believe people could be that stupid.
GDJonny Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Two words...Social Group Hate to say it but Its all about your social group nowadays. Guys "Socially" aren't allowed to support a band to an extreme. Girls are more accepted socially. Plus (This isn't an insult) Girls like to attach themselves to a scene more than guys.
Whatsername1911 Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Oh the fangirls. Gotta love em. But there are still plenty of people who fall in love with the music before they see the bands faces.
Lauren Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Well, back in 2000, it's been 6 years since Green Day's biggest album since. They died down a bit, so you probably only get the guys that still like them. As for girls, a lot of them watch MTV which plays hit music videos or listen to hit radio which plays the top 100 songs. When American Idiot came out, they were hearing that stuff a LOT, and seeing it, too. Lots of girls probably thought Billie was "sexy", so that's why. I think the same thing didn't happen with Dookie because it was a decade earlier, and Billie wasn't as "sexy" then. But I wouldn't know because I was only a baby.
Bohemian+Scandal Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 Meh, I must mention that the reason all the people up front are girls is because they're the ones who're tend to be interested in seeing the band than hearing them. Up front the vocals are more difficult to hear than further back, BUT you are super close and more likely to get attention from the band. I'll also say you can actually breath properly if you're against the barrier which is a plus for short girls so that may be a big reason too. If you go further back on the floor or in the seats you find plenty of males and the ratio is pretty even in my opinion. Girls are just more die hard about being right up against the barrier than the average male tends to be. Also as many have mentioned girls are more likely to be so obsessed that they congregate online like many of us here do. Green Day has tons of fans and among the average fans who don't get to shows at 4 AM or talk about the band every day, the gender ratio is closer to even. Girls are just more likely to be vocal and obsessive.
TheSaltOfTheEarth Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I've noticed that too. True, there are some of the so-called 'teenies' and omgbillysohot fangirls, and then there are the rest of us who're, like, proper fans, I guess. For me, I fell in love with the band's music before I ever saw their faces properly, so I really don't know...because Green Day's music isn't particularly GIRLY, I wouldn't say. But that's actually relative, y'know? Maybe more girls are just more, like, OK with getting really into a certain band, while some guys aren't?
Robin105 Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I'm a girl and I love Green Day. I scream whenever I see the band. And you know what I'm not ashamed of my obsession and I'm not a teenie. You know what this reminds me of? Beatlemania
Hermione Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I think the same thing didn't happen with Dookie because it was a decade earlier, and Billie wasn't as "sexy" then. But I wouldn't know because I was only a baby. I think the same thing did happen with Dookie. They were all over MTV and loads of girls thought Billie was cute. There were as many "teenies" at shows then as there are now. A lot of people only got into them because they were the new cool thing and had cool blue hair and funny clothes. There's this video where an interviewer went round interviewing random fans before a Dookie show, it totally illustrates this , but damn I can't find it. Green Day have always attracted girls more than other bands right from the start, as has already been said at Gilman they used to be known as the band who brought out the girls. They have lyrics that girls as well as boys can really relate to, not all bands have that. I think that's a great thing. And girls finding charismatic lead singers attractive is part of the package with any band. But I think they have a good mix of male and female fans, in general and at shows. Plenty of male fans too. They're a great band so a whole range of different people like them. It's all good as far as I'm concerned, I can't see a problem.
Satan Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 I don't think it's really THAT different. They do have more teenage/girl fans now, especially since American Idiot. But at shows the age/gender range is HUGE, which is really cool. I've actually seen more parents who were dragging their teenage kids along to the show than screaming girls. And I'd say the number of males/females is around about equal. Obviously there'll be kids screaming "BILLIE'S HOOOTTT!!!" 'Cause he is. But from what I've seen they're usually really into the music as well. amen. and your spoiler, made my day ^-^ i pretty much agree with everything you said. i also think you just hear the girls a little more, that's all
