If it wasn't for this album, I would have never gotten into Green Day and I'd be a different person right now. So, thank you to American Idiot for getting me into one of the best bands in the industry. And a big thanks to Green Day as well, for making such an amazing masterpiece. To celebrate, I shall have this album on repeat all day.

There aren't enough gratifying words to explain how much I owe and love Green Day and this album. It renewed my love of these three guys from Oakland, California. It taught me to open my eyes and look at the world for what it is rather than allow people to try to spoon-feed me their edited version. It showed me that I wasn't the only one who felt lost in an army of believers that I couldn't allow myself to follow to the depths. It allowed those who were once silent to be heard in some way. It was first thing that seemed to come across to the US and the worId that what was going on wasn't right and wasn't stifled, burned and destroyed in effigy. It shocked me, it helped awaken the person that I am today and was able to save those who either were lost or believed to be unsavable.

Happy Birthday, American Idiot. And thank you. 6 years and you are still a work of beauty.

This album changed my life. Not only did I get into Green Day because of this album, but I also got into Rock / Punk / Alternative music. The songs on this album are some of my favorite songs of all time. This is still my favorite Green Day album. Can't believe it's been six years!

Thank you American Idiot, thank you J.O.S... happy birthday !

Happy Birthday to the album that changed my life and got me into Green Day. I remember after first hearing this album (which, sadly, was only a year ago) I listened to every song on it everyday for at least a month... My friends all thought I'd gone insane

I remember writing the release date on the calendar and buying it at Tower Records the day it came out. I'll never forget listening to it for the very first time in my room. The opening riff to Holiday gave me chills, and Homecoming made me cry a little b/c it was that fucking good.

I can't believe it's been 6 years. I still remember visiting GDA every day when they still had their white/blue/Shenanigans/ISH-era style up, and then eventually reading about the long-awaited new single and the new album. I'm hesitant to say this album changed my life, since I have been a long-time Green Day fan and they changed my life the moment I heard them, but American Idiot was just so different.

I decided to share my little story ha :P

I missed the first couple periods of my freshman year in high school to pick up this album. I listened to it all day, through classes, read all of the lyrics, and walked home with it blaring in my ears. It was like nothing I'd ever heard or experienced. Somebody out there felt exactly like I did: confused, alone, alienated in a world full of shit. I was stunned that someone could hit the nail on the head so well, but then again, it was Green Day and I had always identified with them really well. I was making my 30 min trip home from school that same day, when I was jumped by 3 random kids and I was punched in the face before I got away. This only added to my feelings and I remember tearing up a little when Boulevard came on again. It was just, again, like nothing I'd ever experienced. I was obsessed with the album, more so than I had been obsessed with the American Idiot single put out months prior. It was my life the next couple of months, and even years as the singles progressed. I already had an angsty opinion and demeanor, but I changed my whole appearance and outlook on life. American Idiot basically helped me grow up and find myself in the difficult high school years. I've done even more growing since then, but like I said, this album, really helped me feel okay about life. Leave it to Green Day to do something like that.
