If you guys can come up with a few details, I'd be happy to sketch them out Cool! We need to make sure we get the plot and stuff figured out before we worry to much about the appearance. Thank you, but what exactly are we brainstorming.(Specifics Please!) Hmm, well right now we're developing the story. I know American Idiot is already "a story", but we're writting it out and elaborating/twisting it to make the base of our graphic novel. We want a developed and somewhat different version of American Idiot.

Copy the above link in the post where I introduced it. In the box in the signigure tab, which should be grey and empty since you have no sig, click and then press the orange rectangle button on the text bar. (Two buttons over from the smiley) Paste the link in there and save it.

Yes, that is basically our thinking. If you read the past pages of this thread there were some very good cases made for Dookie and Insomniac, and some people even wanted to do all the albums in one, so the future is bright.

Sweet, welcome! That's okay, personally I'd rather see some less-cartoonish stuff and more artsy stuff, although both are totally okay.

EDIT: Since everybodys had such a positive response and such awesome ideas, we will be carrying out this idea into a project! Whoo hoo! What idea you ask? Well our goal is to tell a story based on American Idiot. We will be doing this visually through the interpretation of song lyrics. Since everybody have different niches and talents these can be hand drawn, computer generated, (nothing too quick and simple please), or photographed. I think it will read slightly like a graphic novel, with captions and probably some speech bubbles but it's not going to be a straight up cartoony comic. More of an art collection. Not artistic? Don't matter! You can help us plan it out! We can have some warm gushy community bonding times planing out character design and plot. We are currently making a list of interested GDC'rs. I could have one done for are we the wating .. pretty soonish if you'd like.. it would be a drawing!?

st.idiot Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 i like the idea how his dad was like working for the government and how his parents divorced and he's living with his mom and some nowhere town. i also love the idea how his moms boyfriends are the brads. as for what should be wrong with her i think she should be a drug addict. also i think that the "american idiot" is his dad-he doesn't want to work for the very thing that broke his family apart and doesn't believe in governemt or politics. he doesn't want to become what his dad did-the american idiot. i also think he should be either out of high school or a drop out and that he panhandles to get money or survive.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted August 21, 2010 Posted August 21, 2010 ^ I don't think the American Idiot should be a specific someone. Maybe his dad was one, but not 'the American Idiot'. It's a broader something, it goes further than just one person. In regards to his dad, I don't think he should play a big role at all. He's gone, that's all there is to it. That's what JOS is frustrated about, that his dad isn't there (and because of that, he has to put up with Brad. Who plays a much bigger role in the story). If we create an entire history behind, we have a whole bunch of stuff to explain before you get to the American Idiot song part. That's just my opinion, though

The only way I think we'd get too in depth with it is if we did some flashback scenes in between songs, which might richen the story and also be nescesarry to give everybody a part. (Even with outtakes being used) Also I agree that the American Idiot is more of a concept or a target, not resticted to one person, although his dad was the biggest American Idiot he'll ever know. Yeah, he's defenaitly not in high school anymore. Dropped out or kicked out, but still hanging on to his mom's financial support for what it's worth. I think he'd maybe pan handle for sympathy but steal for the real sustanance.
