Posted August 7, 2010 Author Posted August 7, 2010 ok i think dookie should be a graphic novel. make it a story about someone growing up in the city-middle class. use the whole dookie album in a way that american idiot is used. i think theres just as much of a good story in dookie as american idiot even though its not a concept album. Huh, that's an interesting angle. We could defenatly draw a story out of Dookie! We'd have to be careful not to make it a total parody of the band members lives as we know they were, so if we drew a line there it could be a really cool story! Because I love AI to pieces but it's been a bit on overkill with the musical lately. Maybe we could do more than one of these projects if #1, (which it apears we will be attempting! ), works!

I think it would be a cool idea to make a graphic novel centered around history of the band and make it sorta like a Biography....a graphic novel biography Many of times i've been reading a band bio and thinking, "it would be so much freaking cooler as a comic book".

In my opinion every song has something to say and we could find photos or make some to tell the story using a mixture of lyrics and our own interpretation of the songs. I think that you have a really cool idea going and I hope to see it happen!! Can't wait until this is built on and a 'plan' is made! OR we could someone how blend the albums together to create a unique story!

Yeah, thats a good point. I'm not! I think it would take a lot more imagination and effort but I think Dookie has a lot of untapped potential as far as storytelling goes. I wish I'd gotten on the poll when I made the thread so it could have gotten more votes but we'll see! I'm glad you and so many others are interested in making this happen though, I'm very excited now! I didn't think it'd catch on.

I will add it to the poll. ok well I've went through a lot this past two weeks and I was listening to that album non stop and i was thinking about how this album is like a "self discovery" thing. Think about some character going thro the harsh realities of life. This person getting into a fight with their parents and this person decides to head out into the real world without any support from anyone (possibly with the only support from their significant other who lives far away....(which is where Westbound Sign kinda kicks in). This character finds out that after they had a big fight with their parents, that he/she suffers from panic attacks. (Panic Song and Babs Uvula Who?). This character has so much trouble going thro life at an early age and is trying to find out his/her purpose in life (somehow Walking Contradiction/Armatage Shanks fits in). This character finds some support in drugs (Geek Stink Breath/Jaded) and has more panic attacks after using the drugs. While using all these drugs he/she gets scammed and beats up th drug dealer and this is when the character learns that he/she doesnt wanna be like that anymore but he/she cannot quit by his/herself (Stuck With Me)..... I gotta think of more stuff but what do you think so far? *****The character finds a place to live, which is under a bridge and starts to beg for food and money (No Pride) and starts to regret the fight with his/her parents and wants to go back home but he/she cant because of the abusive father and decides to start heading out of town (Stuart and the Ave./86). While heading out town this character wonders if his/her parents will still be there for financial support, even tho this character knows that they wont and wonders if he/she will receive any money if they were to die (Brat). <-----not sure if that should be put in. You can decide. Our character struggles to live each day, (and like I said before this character's only survival is) thro pan handling. He/She gets tired of living the life on the streets and starts to rob gas stations (Tight Wad Hill) and now becomes a fugitive on the run.

I'm going to have to pop in my Insomniac cd and listen to it front to back. (so to speak) I'm feeling like all of these albums have stories to tell now, I really hope that we can pull one off well enough to do another one. I'd love to dig into a few of the albums. And the cool thing is everybody can listen to a cd like say Insomniac, and through their individual perspective they may pick a few more elements out that make sense in the story line that nobody else thought of.

If I were more artistic or creative I'd help out, but unfortuneatley I have no skills I think you all should do something like Dookie for it. It would be interesting to see all of the interpretations for that one! Or maybe even 39/Smooth....

Ellenkc Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 I love this idea! I'd be up for helping out on this. Dookie has my vote, we can get really creative towards something without a storyline but it would be a lot harder than 21CB or AI would be.

First there's this guy who's burnt out, bored and doesn't really like his friends. (Burnout - Longview) He decides to leave his home and live somewhere else (Welcome to Paradise) where he meets new people, makes new friends and has some new experiences. (Pulling Teeth - When I come around). When he's coming clean to them (Coming Clean) about something (open for interpretation) he realizes that his new friends are as bad as his old ones (Emenius Sleepus, In The End) and basically curses everyone and everything. (F.O.D.) Well, not exactly a happy ending... but whatever.
