No, Suburbia girlfriend is the girlfriend JOS has in Suburbia (so, during AI and JOS, song-wise), Whatsername is the Whatsername he meets later on in the story (She's a Rebel and on).

I think I could be a part of this - I'm a pretty good cartoonist and I do a lot of writing in my spare time (I want to be a writer when I grow up), and know the AI story by heart. Just tell me where I can help!

Awesome, glad to have you on board then! And don't worry, handdrawn is just as good if not better than computerized. Right now we are discussing what the character designs will look like, and after that I will post the story in sections for artists to claim.

Alright cool - I'll draw up a couple of ideas when I have time if you want? How far along are you?

Well, we have the whole story pretty much figured out, although if you have any suggestions now would be the time to chime in. I will be posting the finished storyline soon. We are determining character designs since the characters will have to maintain some resemblance from illustrator to illustrator so that it's not too crazy and confusing. We decided JOS is a Latino kid with blue hair- (dreads?) and that the Suburbia gf is a skinny whory type with green eyes and either bad bleached hair with washed out pink or black/red hair.

I have an idea for St. Jimmy... I think I'd draw him as just an exaggerated younger version of St. Billie in the AI musical, with tattoos and a ripped vest kind of look. I think Whatsername should have red hair, and be attractive, to kind of contrast between Mary-Jane (she'll be the Suburbia Girlfriend 'Mary-Jane to keep me insane') and her sluttyness?

Mary Jane, nice!!! I think Whatsername should be attractive but slightly full figured/curvy, (Think Kerplunk), just because she's a kick ass confident girl who knows she doesn't need to be a slim vixen type to be awesome and gorgous. And I don't know about St Billie, deliscious as he is we were hoping to avoid obviuos paralells to the musical/music videos.

My internet connection is being shitty and not co-operating at all so I'm probably gonna be off and on for the rest of this (pretty much what I've been all along )

So JOS is decided (really cool by the way).

I think with the Suburbia GF and whatsername the contrast should be really obvious. The Sub GF being really skinny and almost malnourished kind of vibe goin on. The clothes a little too ripped (thanks whoever said that) kind of hanging off of her and way too revealing whilst Whatsername would be sexy in a fuller figured way, clothes more decent, shes more healthy looking but she's still really eyecatching and everything. I have no idea about Whatsername's clothes

As for basic stuff: I think she should have shortish rough browny red hair (not dyed), light blue eyes but lip, nose and a couple of ear piercings. The whole not dyed thing is so that when JOS saw her it would be like "This is punk, but not my kind of punk" It's natural-ness not fake-ness. The piercings would just be raw punkishness type stuff (and I think piercings are extremely cool )

Well we had a very long converation about Jimmy, and the best conclusion we came to was that he was like an imaginary friend figure. We see him exerting influence over and speaking to JOS but to nobody else. We were going to try and make sure we included a scene or two where it's appearant the two are talking and nobody sees Jimmy, or that he's there in private moments between JOS and Whatsername and it's clear Whatsername isn't aware of him.

Actually, I was hoping to do a somewhat psychedelic abstract piece for Give Me Novicaine.

We basically have the whole plot written, with perhaps a little room for addition or adjustment.

And cool pics, I added you under my watch. You should join the GDC on Deviant Art group.

ALright collab fans, start your engines, because here it is: the story in it's entirety, sectioned up and ready to be illustrated!

American Idiot: We see alternating scenes of what makes JOS who he is, or how he has been influenced by said "American Idiot", who in this case is his father.:

P1: JOS' family lived happily in the afluent part of the suburbs and seemed sparkly and perfect for a time. His father became deeply tangled in some corrupt politics and other such bad things, so mom and JOS leave to the crappy trashy outskirts of suburbia and his dad kills himself. ("Don't wanna be an American Idiot"-"And sing along to the age of paranioa")

P2: JOS catches a whiff of punk and latches on to it full speed. We see him making all of the stereotypical transformation steps to punkdom, (shaving his hair into a mohawk, ripping clothes and crap up, putting eyeliner on because we're talking GD haha, etc etc), and taking his politcal anarchist stance against ever being an American Idiot like his father. ("Welcome to a new kind of tension" -End)

Jesus of Suburbia: Well, we're outlining this sordid details of being JOS.

P3 Jesus of Suburbia: He is not in school, (drop out or too old/gradudate?), is disgustingly estranged with his mother, who has her own problems and goes through man after man who JOS genericly refers to as "Brads", (someone had the great visual of a bunch of men lined up with nimrod stamps over their faces reading "Brad"), and likewise JOS thinks girls are disposable and interchangable as well, sifting through sex and drugs with a variety of desperate lost girls from his "punk wannabee" gang.

P4 City of the Damned: I think we could say he has one steady girlfriend however. JOS thinks he's pretty hot stuff though and gets into a passionate argument about false "punk ideals" and since everybody are so arogant and think they're so right, he starts getting kicked out of his circle, (somebody wanted him to have a band too?). This opens his eyes to how petty and shallow his friends are. He starts walking through the usual hang outs, such as the 7-11, and now that he's getting the cold shoulder he realizes it is indeed the City of the Damned

P5 I Don't Care: We go through all the motions of I Don't Care, basically him stripping himself of all the ties and things he does have in suburbia.

P6 Dearly Beloved: Kind of the calm before the storm, I guess it could kind of be JOS reviewing his options and thinking about how many people in his life really are/arent listening. Represent it how you wish

P7 Tales From Another Broken Home: JOS has sworn off Subrbia and is more than ready to leave. He bids it goodbye, gets a car from somewhere, (hitchhikes, steals one, takes moms?), and hes off.

Holiday: He his the road, and is so exhillerated to be on his way to the city he and some other young people throw themselves a huge booze-drugs-and-sex-fest when they meet at a bar.

P8: It's storming out and JOS' rickety car isn't faring so well, but he‘s coming through a town so he pulls over in a bar. He‘s inspired ("Hear the sound of the fallin rain"- "A plastic bag on a monument")

P9: (2nd Chorus-end)

Boulavard of Broken Dreams:

P10: Jos staggers into the city and checks into a rickety motel. The fear and loneliness begin to set in, and now he realizes the only real comfort he has left is of the chemical kind, which he is craving. ("I walk a lonely road"-"Of the edge and where I walk alone")

P11: So he walks out into the street and basically cops some drugs, but instead of it being just a whiney emo song its more about him being a scared little low life kid, ashamed that he's scared but still wanting the drugs. St Jimmy should makes a slight forshadowing kind of cameo in here, maybe standing at the end of an alley watching as he buys drugs. ("Read between the lines"-end)

Are We the Waiting:

P12: JOS leaves the place where he bought the drugs, looking for somewhere to do’m. (What drugs are your choice I suppose) He walks through the streets, imagining what his life could be in the city if he had been more “perfect”. (IE, looks at a tall building and imagines himself working in a suit, walks past a floral shop and imagines himself buying his mom flowers, etc) (“Starry nights”- 1st Chorus End)

P13: He comes upon a crumbling Victorian house, clearly neglected by it’s owners. He imagines it as a beautiful suburban dream house, littered beer cans sprouting into flowers and “Fuck you Lucy” graffiti over the door transformed into a cute “I <3 Lucy” carving. As he stands there being all dreamy and dreary and such, “Are we the waiting” literally becomes plural, as some guys that were out smoking in the house’s garage come out and stand with him. They are the epitome of JOS’s ideal punk. In the last frame we see them walk JOS inside the house (The drugs in their greedy hands) (“Forgetmenots, second thoughts”-end)

St Jimmy:

P13: JOS is sick and tired of feeling feeble and transparent and wants to set himself apart from his "fake punk" friends from suburbia, so he walks the streets again in the daylight, this time with a newly conjured punk guise. It is now day light and there appears to have been a slight time lapse. JOS kicks the front door open a changed man. (But of course we know he’s not really a man yet haha) We see him strut the streets with confidence with his pal Jimmy in a manor that is a total opposite from BOBD, walking into stores and randomly stealing things (Cigarettes and ramen and a little bag of dope) and being generally pompous and obnoxious. (“St Jimmy’s coming up”- “2nd chorus”)

P14: One of the store owners catches up with him and starts barking at him. Jimmy, clearly not seen by the owner, suggests JOS not put up with the argument and JOS declares “You talkin to me?”, giving him the St Jimmy speech. (My name is St Jimmy I’m a son of a gun etc) He kicks him, and he and Jimmy run back to their new home in the squat house.(“You talkin to me?”-end)

Give Me Novicaine:

P15: GMN is a surreal, abstract art piece where it is clear Jimmy is feeding JOS hard drugs. I personally was hoping to do it but if you really want it, I may negotiate.

She's a Rebel:

P16: JOS/Jimmy, henceforth known as Josimmy, goes to his new little punk hang out and hears a fight in progress. He walks in and is shocked to see it's a girl beating up on a guy for trying to get in her pants. Josimmy has never seen such a fierce, confident girl with morals and such and is blown away. He becomes infatuated with her and believes she is the key to being a "real" punk and making exciting things happen. We see him following her around the house and studying her a bit, trying to work of his nerve.

Extraordinary Girl:

P17: The two actually meet and get to know each other/fall in love. Josimmy hears Whatsername crying in her room, (she is one of the few housemates who has sectioned off her own space), and is shocked that this tough chick cries. We see two different view points: Whatsername has photos of her family and documents such as a restraining order and a failed GED equivalency exam spread out. Clearly something is wrong in her life but we never learn just what. Josimmy on the other hand is burning cigarette holes into old pictures he carried in his wallet sitting in the living room outside her room. (“Shes an extraordinary girl”-”To anyone willing to buy”)

P18: Without Jimmy around, JOS finally finds “the courage in his mind” to knock on her door and ask what’s wrong. We see them sit down together and talk, and time lapses around them, showing that they talk and grow closer. (Their outfits change, the weather outside changes, calander changes days, etc) Eventually the scene ends in sexual intercourse between the two. (“She’s all alone again”-end)

Shoplifter:

P19: Although Josimmy has his new household to fulfill his needs, he thinks he's pretty fricken awesome and badass so he goes and tries to shoplift. (Yeah, nothing edgier than that.) So he gets taken to the police station and calls Whatsername, telling her the cops have him and that she needs to come bail him out, but not mentioning it's for the very lame act of shoplifting. (“Shoplifter you’ll never learn”-

P20: So Whatsername rushes there, thinking Josimmy actually did something significant, (maybe we could show her thought bubbles imaging him fighting a cop over something fancy and liberal or whatever while shes going up there), then she gets there and gets pissed off and explodes at him when he expects her to be impressed by shoplifting. Claimed by ~Fooget

Too Much Too Soon:

P21: After bailing Josimmy out, Whatsername realizes that Josimmy will never survive in the streets, and tries to break it to him gently somewhere after police station. Josimmy misses the cues and tries to win Whatsername's affection back by making a grand speech about how shoplifting is fighting America‘s cooperate agenda of greed, bringing power to the people, defying society, blah blah blah. She’s obviously upset.

P22: Whatsername isn't buying it and isn't impressed, she's actually quite mad and wants Josimmy to just go back home to Suburbia. JOS, ignores her advice and goes back to the house. He burns something significant like money or something to try and prove his dedication to punk politics and her, but she just shuts him out in frustration.

Letterbomb:

P23: We see a wild party walking down the street, with two people making out and all sorts of substances being passed and Josimmy isn’t in on the action. He stands watching them leave from a window. (“nobody likes you everyone left you they’re all out without you having fun”)

P24: Post-party, Whatsername is walking around the house early in the morning, looking at all things that disappoint her in it. No revolution to be seen, just people stoned our of their mind and wasting away. See Josimmy asleep in a homemade shirt reading “Punk” while clearly proving that punk is a dead cliché in this house. Several other people are asleep draped over their living room furniture wearing almost identical outfits with drugs and booze littered all about. The guy who was making out with a girl is now with a scantly clad different girl as the original girl sleeps stained by mascara tears. An unemployment check on the table makes it clear that’s what they bought with it. (“Where have all the bastards gone”-”You better run for your fucking life” thegreengurl

P25: Whatsername is done. She packs her bags, and spray paints on the wall above Josimmy "You're not the jesus of Surbubia, St. Jimmy is a figment of, your father's rage and your mother's love, made me the idiot America. I can't take this place, I'm leaving it behind. I can't take this town I'm leaving you tonight" We see him wake up to paint dripping on his face and he reads it and breaks down. Christie

Homecoming:

P26: Intro: He's regressing into being a lonely, scared child and ponders what options he has left. He thinks back on one time he's bothered to call his mom, (pay phone, doubt he has money for a cell phone), and it was for money, to which she responded "Please call me only if you are coming home". He's scared to do that and face the consequences.

P27: Death of St Jimmy: He tries to do drugs once more, "The stems and seeds of the last of the dope", giving St Jimmy once last attempt, waltzing around town in a sickly drugged haze trying to glorifiy Jimmy and justify his entire trip in the city, pleading with himself to believe that Whatsername was wrong and that he hasn't fucked his entire life over with this lie. He sees an upset little boy that reminds him of himself hurt and goes to help him and then his mom comes and maces Josimmy because he thinks he's the scum of the earth and about to hurt her child. I don't know, something symbolic of how he's destroyed his innocence and soiled his existence.

-He is pissed off, St Jimmy is over for good. Nobody cares and nobody's there to help him, so he rips St Jimmy apart and tries to think for himself

P28: E 12th STreet: Flash a bit forward. He‘s settled down. He fills out job applications for horrible bland jobs, but his heart's not in it: "He'd rather be doing something else now, like cigerretes and coffee with the underbelly" He cuts his dreads and tries to clean up because he’s hired but it feels like a weird transition. He needs somebody to help him but he's lost Whatsername. He has a nervous breakdown (Get me outta here right now bit)

P29: Nobody Likes You: He's been kicked out of because he has left the good graces of Whatsername ( and they're angry that he caused her to leave because they liked her) the punk house. He’s quit the job he did get, so maybe he ends up sitting in the same cheap motel room he started out in, being a bum.

P30-Rock and Roll Girlfriend: He gets a letter from Mick, from the Suburbia band JOS was kicked out of, that has a rock'n'roll life now. JOS has been bugging him, trying to get back in the band, because Mick tells him to get off of his case.

P31- We’re Coming Home Again:

Needs to be finished…

Whatsername:

P32: This song is being written as a journal entry We see now that this entire story has been retold by the-artist-formerly-known-as-JOS. We see that he has checked himself into a rehab clinic to detox without the outside influences that have controlled his swayable psyche so heavily. We pan out to see that he has actually written the entire story on the walls of his room there. However, he opens a can of white paint and starts to wipe it all away, either A) leaving only “To live and not to breathes to die in tragedy” or B) Writing over the whitewash “Forgetting you but not the time” . What do you think?

Whew. What a 2 am. Now, we have more yet to discuss, but all this American Idioting wears me out, good night.
