Bitch, debate, complain, resolve. There we go! :D Kidding!

Naw I've got an uber busy week right now, ten million things going on. Sorry guys. :/ Umm, well this is a step back but what are we doing in Holiday? We kinda skipped over that. He's coming into the city, what happens along the way that makes it "Holiday"?

I know it's a crap idea but what about if it's just like the video? Maybe he gets drunk with whoever he finds at a bar, they steal a car and just go for a joyride?

Posted

i was thinking for holiday that he goes in and just like goes to this random party and chills meets this random chick, fucks her and like just gets so hammared and like just fuckin tears the place down

Posted

Haha I keep getting this cheesy cliche scene of him hustling pool and getting beaten up by bikers playing through my head. WRONG, brain, wrong!

Well, as much as I love the video for Holiday, and I reaaaaaally do with all my heart, our goal is to stay away from the obvious interpretations including those Samual Bayer has already made.

Hmm will there be drinking and fucking in Jesus of Sububria?

I thought JOS was his life in the suburbs, and a series of events that made him runaway. Failing classes, parents getting mad at him, being kicked out of his so-called "punk" band, and just stuff like that. Then at the end "you're leaving, you're leaving, are you leaving home?" He packs his bag in his room and gives his dog one last hug and runs away." Idk, that's what I've always imagined.

Posted

Holiday... hmm, what about Jesus stomping angrily out of Suburbia, and he runs into a group of other frustrated people or something looking for an outlet also, and they just walk to a nearby (undefined) town where they go from pub to pub, getting drunk and partying and talking shit on everything they don't like (could include the political element in here as well, dunno if you guys want that), and in the end Jesus goes a motel on the outskirts of town, where BOBD begins (if we're still going by what we thought out for BOBD, quite in the beginning)

i just see drinking in J.O.S. but there deffinitley gonna be drinking, fucking, and anything else that will fuck you up.

I agree with that there should be bad stuff happening in song!JOS, but (sorry!) I also think there should be story and emotional stuff. The song is too, well, 'emotional and stuff' to be just one big punkparty-gone-bad.

This is my general visualisation of JOS. Just slap me if I'm being too obnoxious about what I think again.

Like, in JOS we're introduced to his character, and his leader of the punks in Suburbia thing, and look at me being cool doing "alcohol and cigarettes and Mary Jane, to keep me insane and doing someone else's cocaine", how mom and Brad are shit, they're not even there, this would probably be also a good moment to make clear Brad is, well, whatever the hell he is. Nimrod thingy in front of his face, anyone remember that idea?

Then in City of the Damned you get the whole "hmm this is kind of a sucky place actually", without anything actually happening, he just realizes it. Could be literally JOS sitting in a parking lot, looking around and seeing whatever. In I Don't Care maybe he could be kicked out of the punk gang, getting into fights and stuff, you could also include the girlfriend thing, and he doesn't care and thinks it's shit. Kind of like the JOS part of the song, but then gone wrong.

Dearly Beloved is some sort of a calm before the storm, or the eye of a hurricane, however you want to describe it. Maybe a diary entry, simply with the lyrics?

Tales From Another Broken Home, maybe for the most part angrily packing his bags, getting ready to leave, and in end him walking away.

That sounds like a good plan to me! :D Since I've never really had much of an inkling for what's going on at the beginning of the album I've not really got anything to add.

And YAY! for people using the thread again!

Hmm, okay, Holiday is clearly a party song. I think he makes it to the city by the end of it, though, and then he's in a motel there. I had a fairly okay idea, I think, on what to do with BOBD to make it a bit different and un-cliche it, but I can't remember currently.

Yeah, JOS is defenatly an introduction to the aspects of his life in Suburbia that make him JOS and henceforth urge him to leave. His home life, (I remember the Nimrod idea and still love it :) ), maybe stick some family life/childhood flashbacks in there if they aren't all fitted into American Idiot, stupid friends and stupid desperate girls, (I think maybe he has a girlfriend but he sleeps around a lot and doesn't realize that there are bold confident awesome girls out there, IE the importance of Whatsername). His awesome pose starts peeling away and some incidents, such as maybe a petty fight over poor "punk ethics" with his "friends", (Example: if you like Green Day and/or don't have a mohawk youre not punk), make him realize that his life sucks, city of the damned, etc etc. Maybe in there he realizes he can't get a job/college too.

So basiaclly I agree with everything you said in a very drawn out form, haha.

Wake up everyone! :bunny:

Okay, so here is in essence what we have so far. It's been a while so please help me fill in the cracks and gaps I'm forgetting.

American Idiot: We see alternating scenes of what makes JOS who he is, or how he has been influenced by said "American Idiot", who in this case is his father. JOS' family lived happily in the afluent part of the suburbs and seemed sparkly and perfect for a time. His father became deeply tangled in some corrupt politics and other such bad things, so mom and JOS leave to the crappy trashy outskirts of suburbia and his dad kills himself. JOS catches a whiff of punk and latches on to it full speed. We see him making all of the stereotypical transformation steps to punkdom, (shaving his hair into a mohawk, ripping clothes and crap up, putting eyeliner on because we're talking GD haha, etc etc), and taking his politcal anarchist stance against ever being an American Idiot like his father.

Jesus of Suburbia: Well, we're outlining this sordid details of being JOS. He is not in school, (drop out or too old/gradudate?), is disgustingly estranged with his mother, who has her own problems and goes through man after man who JOS genericly refers to as "Brads", (someone had the great visual of a bunch of men lined up with nimrod stamps over their faces reading "Brad"), and likewise JOS thinks girls are disposable and interchangable as well, sifting through sex and drugs with a variety of desperate lost girls from his "punk wannabee" gang. I think we could say he has one steady girlfriend however. JOS thinks he's pretty hot stuff though and gets into a passionate argument about false "punk ideals" and since everybody are so arogant and think they're so right, he starts getting kicked out of his circle, (somebody wanted him to have a band too?). This opens his eyes to how petty and shallow his friends are. (City of the Dead) We go through all the motions of I Don't Care, basically him stripping himself of all the ties and things he does have in suburbia. We then have Dearly Beloved, which is kind of the calm before the storm, I guess it could kind of be JOS reviewing his options and thinking about how many people in his life really are/arent listening. Then he's leaving home, so on and so forth.

Holiday: He his the road, and is so exhillerated to be on his way to the city he and some other young people throw themselves a huge booze-drugs-and-sex-fest when they meet at a bar.

Boulavard of Broken Dreams: Jos staggers into the city and checks into a rickety motel. The fear and lonliness begin to set in, and now he realizes the only real comfort he has left is of the chemical kind, which he is madly craving. So he walks out into the street and basically cops some drugs, but instead of it being a whiney emo song its more about him being a scared little low life kid, if you now what I mean? Also I think St Jimmy should make a slight forshadowing kind of cameo in here, maybe standing at the end of an alley watching as he buys drugs.

Are We the Waiting: Ummm...hmm, what did we have here? Doing the drugs he bought and reviewing his current life I guess. Anything else interesting?

St Jimmy: JOS is sick and tired of feeling feeble and transparent and wants to set himself apart from his "fake punk" friends from suburbia, so he walks the streets again in the daylight, this time with a newly conjoured punk guise. He finds a new gang of friends, (how/where/who?), and stuff happens...?

Give Me Novicaine: Jimmy gets a hold of heroin, and basically and basically we have a big trippy drug scene.

She's a Rebel: JOS/Jimmy, henceforth known as Josimmy, goes to his new little punk hang out and hears a fight in progress. He walks in and is shocked to see it's a girl beating up on a guy for trying to get in her pants. Josimmy has never seen such a fierce, confident girl with morals and such and is blown away. He becomes infatuated with her and believes she is the key to being a "real" punk and making exciting things happen.

Extraordinary Girl: the two actually meet and get to know each other/fall in love. Josimmy moves into the group squat with her and takes on the lifestyle. They bear their souls to one another and have intercourse.

Shoplifter: Although Josimmy has his new household to fufill his needs, he thinks he's pretty fricken awesome and badass so he goes and tries to shoplift. (Yeah, nothing edgier than that.) So he gets taken to the police station and calls Whatsername, telling her the cops have him and that she needs to come bail him out, but not meantioning it's for the very lame act of shoplifting. So Whatsername rushes there, thinking Josimmy actually did something significant, (maybe we could show her thought bubbles imaging him fighting a cop over something shmancy and liberal or whatever while shes goign up there), then she gets there and gets pissed off and explodes at him.

Jesus of Suburbia: Well, we're outlining this sordid details of being JOS. He is not in school, (drop out or too old/gradudate?) I'd say make him 19-ish, so too old for high school, but leave it open whether he dropped out of (barely) graduated.

Are We the Waiting: Ummm...hmm, what did we have here? Doing the drugs he bought and reviewing his current life I guess. Anything else interesting? I've found the thread of the interpretation someone once did, it's here. I think we could definitely base it off this. JOS driving in his car, out of the BOBD town, mesmerised by something in the 'starry nights, city lights coming down over me', and at the end of the song he ends up at the "St. Jimmy gang" for lack of a better word

I think the first part of your description would still fit in AWTW. And then after that I suppose he finds his new gang.... and here I start to get lost because I can't remember what we eventually made JOS and Jimmy. First they'd be the same person, and then there was Jimmy ghosting around JOS but (making himself) invisible to everyone else. So, that kind of confuses me, also as to what we're going to do with song!St. Jimmy

The name Josimmy made me giggle.

Sounds about right :D

I just edited my thoughts in, that's easier.

I'd continue with the rest of it if it weren't for lack of time.

Actually, I'm going to be away from Tuesday till the 18th. Gonna miss talking about this. I love discussing Green Day's albums and things based on it.

Reading through what you guys have so far, it looks great. I'm loving the idea with American Idiot showing his development as a punk. When the story is all written out, how are the songs going to be divided up for the artists?
