Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 I think it definitely fits after Letterbomb... because the song is all like, hmm, she's not so great after all, which I think fits quite well after she left and before he kind of settles down.
JohannaRaeRamone. Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 Yeah, I like the idea with the kids but I feel it belongs after Letterbomb as well. Things are winding down for him and losing their edge and charm. He's starting to realize his great big adventure with Whatsername isn't really going to be as much as he thought it was cracked up to be.
st.idiot Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 AL;DKJFAS;DLASLALALALAL LAAAAAAAAAL LALALA spaaaaaaammmmmmm. ok so, enough spamming. i was thinking of having too much too soon be somewhere like in the middle of the album along with shoplifter (i think we shouldn't include governator).

I"LL BE BACK! I'LL BE BACK! Whoah I haven't heard that one in ages, I think I lost it in iTunes land. Anyway I'm not so sure it fits, but Shoplifter is definatly back in Suburbia. It could be him as a pre-teen kid trying to be a punk bad kid but really having no clue what he's doing, and then his horrible "punk" clique picks him up. It kind of reminds me of "Been Caught Stealing" by Janes Addiction like that... And I've said that WMUWSE will be ommited out of respect, but it could very well fit in with JOS's loss of a father as well, without even touching on Billie's territory. I don't know...?

I don't know...? i say we include spike (so i went the gap where all the yuppy college kids shop) =p jay kay!! lol i think that wmuwse should be replaced by too much too soon which fits in better after letter bomb cause it's like fuck you and then goes to homecoming where he's all like home and shit

He's more like, shit, that didn't work, let's go home, haha. i say we include spike (so i went the gap where all the yuppy college kids shop) =p jay kay!! lol i think that wmuwse should be replaced by too much too soon which fits in better after letter bomb cause it's like fuck you and then goes to homecoming where he's all like home and shit Oh and yes Spike would be hilarious there! I just realized two or three days ago that was a Network song, I had it miscatogorized as a Circle Jerks song on that dumb old itunes and was like, wow, the Network covered this??? They did such a perfectly close cover!!!

YAY!!! then for shoplifter i say (might be a bit radical) after american idiot and then after shoplifter go to j.o.s. or if we have j.o.s. second we put in shoplifter somewhere in j.o.s. or mention it somehow or have it be literally right after j.o.s.
Punk-tastic32 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Hooray for Too Much Too Soon! I agree how we should not use the loss of a father to respect Billie; but what if WMUWSE is like him being kicked out of his "punk" band, or losing his dog or something. It doesn't seem very serious to us, but to him it might have been what was keeping together and stuff... But then we would have to move it up a bit in time...Just an idea. Sorry that I'm just coming back into this thread ad uprooting everything
Anko Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I really can't see where WMUWSE fits in to what we're trying to do here and I really wouldn't feel comfortable using it anyway tbh As for where Shoplifter fits in,I can see it either before or right after JOS,but it's probably better suited for right after.Because JOS is sort of the start of the whole story.
JohannaRaeRamone. Posted September 9, 2010 Author Posted September 9, 2010 Okay, so wmuwse is out. Hmm, as for Shoplifter... Chronalogically it makes sense before JOS, but JOS really is the proper introduction to the album and JOS, so no go there. Some time when he's driving into the city it could be a flashback to how he met up with those people in the first place. But I don't know if that would then go before or after Holiday.
Anko Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Could it come after GMN? I'm just thinking about how I used to play AI with the B-Sides lol. But after having gone over the lyrics to JOS it really seems to me that shoplifter fits in right after it.Because in the last part of JOS it implies that he ran away, hence where shoplifter comes in.
Punk-tastic32 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Maybe he was caught shoplifting and his parents got really mad at him, and that was the last straw and why he ran away?
Anko Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Maybe he was caught shoplifting and his parents got really mad at him, and that was the last straw and why he ran away? Maybe Honestly though from the song it sounds like they don't really give a shit if he shoplifts imo Putting Shoplifter before JOS might throw it off track, but it could work at the same time. I think this just boils down to a matter of preference Like I'd kinda prefer it to be after JOS. I think we may end up having to do a vote
st.idiot Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 lol i don't care where it goes because i was the one to mention putting it before OR after so it doesn't really matter much to me.but have we all come to the conclusion for too much too soon being where wmuwse is?
Anko Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Pretty much yeah. You know I'm thinking, should I keep a list of the song orders so far? And regarding JOS and Shoplifter, would it help to put the songs in either order and listen to them both ways? It may help get a feel for how it should go story wise.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Shoplifter? I never really associated that entire song with the story of American Idiot.. and I definitely wouldn't put it after JOS. The song is kind of like, 'shoplifting is actually really stupid', which, moral- and the way JOS would think -wise, would fit right after or before Homecoming... but I personally don't thinks we should include it at all...

Punk-tastic32 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Yeah, I think we should make our attack plan of the whole thing. Mainly so it's in one spot instead of spread out over a few pages, and also to make sure everyone's on the same page and there are no misunderstandings once this gets underway.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 well we decided not to include governator since that was more irrelavent to the story than shoplifter or too much too soon ...I never said a word about Governator. but now you mention it, I think Governator fits much, much better than Shoplifter. Why do you all think Shoplifter would be so good to add? It really doesn't make much, if any sense at all to put it anywhere near the beginning, I don't think it makes much sense to add it at all... I'd like to hear why it would fit, according to you guys
st.idiot Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 ... I never said a word about Governator. but now you mention it, I think Governator fits much, much better than Shoplifter. lol the point i was trying to make was we had already excluded one of the b-sides and that was the one we decided. and idk, i don't think there's really any story to it or like that it fits at all with american idiot

Sorry, but I really don't understand it. oh wait, I think I get it... but why is it so "OMG HAVE TOOOOOOO" to have all the b-sides in there? (also, Favorite Son ring a bell?) I think of it more as a, if it fits really well, let's stick 'em in there, but don't go putting b-sides in there just 'cause. And talking about having story to it or having to do with American Idiot... Shoplifter seriously doesn't fit in American Idiot whatsoever, unless you go the "Jesus looking back on it and deciding that all the 'mischief' like shoplifting is actually quite stupid"-way, which most certainly wouldn't be around Jesus of Suburbia (song).
kelly42fox Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Hey guys... about the b-side tracks... some of us don't have access to these, and we have NO idea what you guys are talking about... Please provide links to the songs, if you're going to talk about b-tracks... preferably where we can aquire them... Please please! I found some of them on the forum.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 All the b-sides are on youtube (just search for Green Day [song name]), and I think you can listen them on GDA as well (but I'm not sure).
Anko Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I think what we need to do before going any further is decide what songs we will be using. And I'll keep list of what we've got so far and what we'll be using.
