Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Awesome song. Beautiful. And I have no idea how to put how I feel about the song and how great it is into words. I love how it starts out soft, builds and builds up, explodes and goes back so soft again. It's the perfect way to end the album, I don't think they could've ended it any better. And the lyrics are just great. I love this song <3. I'd say it's perfect, but ... I don't even know what to put after the 'but', haha. I love it. And it's one of the few songs that can bring me to tears, if I'm in the 'right mood' for that.I KNOW YOU'RE READING THIS SO I TAKE THAT CHANCE TO REMIND YOU OF THE AWFUL WHATSERNAME VIDEO. MWUAHAHAHAHA.

Astrid. Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 http://i45.tinypic.com/qxlx87.jpgThis does not compute!(Kidding...but seriously, I don't think I've ever encountered anyone who doesn't like this song. Not that that's bad, just sayin )Haha, makes me the first I don't know what it is about this song, but it just doesn't hit me at all
Smoothed Out Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I love Whatsername, but I'm always sad when I hear it because I know it's the end of the album and it being such an emotional song and all. I always imagine AI as a film and in my head I can see the credits rolling up when I hear this song (to me it's just the perfect credits song)
Jaymee!! Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 ugggggh AGAIN?Yeah it's a good song but...well, y'know.
Kayfabe Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 The regrets are uselessIn my mind. When I feel like "yet again I'm kicking myself", I remember that "the regrets are useless in my mind"
ifmemoryserves Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Just Epic. Purely epic.Well, your sig isn't monstrous or anything. On topic, I love this song. And it will always hold a special place in my heart.Since my username derived form it and all.
musse Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I'll just quote this...My favourite part:Remember, whateverIt seems like forever ago.......The regrets are uselessIn my mind. She's in my head,......And in the darkest night,If my memory serves me right,I'll never turn back time......Forgetting you, but not the time.Just beautiful and such raw emotion.Yess. I love Whatsername.
EuropeanIdiot Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 ^ Agreed. That's my fave part too. Just.. I don't know... I can't describe it in any other words than silmply epic. It's easily in my Top 3 songs from AI. <3 I'd LOVE to hear it live SO much.
the daughter of rage Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 i get very emotional when i hear this song, but there is no way to explain my love for this song either!
Salmonator. Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Do you mind sending me the sheet music if you can? I'm too lazy to go look for it.I can, if I can find it again.
04rebhop Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I love the way American Idiot ends with this song. It is just a superb track with so many emotions. I think the last few lines are so powerful "And in the darkest night, If my memory serves me right, I'll never turn back time, Forgetting you, but not the time".
Anja Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Simply amazing. One of the best songs Green Day have ever written!!! And there's no better way to end an album like AI. Perfect
Clayish Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 The best album closer I have ever seen.2nd best song off the mighty AI.
Ally Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I love whatsername its such an awesome song. And out of all the albums this is the best closing song.
MascaraTears Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 YAY THANK YOU this is absolutely without question my favorite GD song of all time. When I first listened to American Idiot all the way through, I was confused after Homecoming ended and there was still another song because it seemed like such a grand finale. but when I heard Whatsername, I understood immediately why they chose to end the album with it...Homecoming is the end of the characters' "adventures" and maybe the end of their youth, and whatsername takes place many years later, looking back on it all and reminiscing. besides it just being a really beautiful song, the lyrics are powerful in their simplicity. in fact, the whole song is simple, yet powerful. I actually couldn't listen to this song for a couple weeks after I saw GD in concert because it evokes such a strong feeling of nostalgia and made me too sad... even now, when the music at the end explodes and billie and mike do that beautiful harmony and sing "Remember, whatever, it seems like forever ago" it ALWAYS seems to me like it's talking about the concert I went to, kind of describing my feelings, if that makes sense. the whole song, lyrics, everything is so powerful and poignant and emotional and beautiful it really can't be described adequately in words, but it always gives me chills and sometimes makes me cry...I just love it sorry that was long
Clayish Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Yea, Whatsername is pretty much the Epilogue of American Idiot.
bollard_11 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 favourite song from prob my favourite album ever
Boston Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Whatsername is a great tune when I'm in the mood to listen to it.EDIT: Its really hard to type that word without "¿" and "?".
Jinjonator Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 This song is just beautiful and sad. Definitely the best way to end an already amazing album. It also makes me think of this one girl I used to be friends with, and a lot of times when I find myself thinking about her, the lyrics start to play in my mind. The regrets are useless in my mindShe's in my headI must confess!
Chelsea Hotel Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 WHATSERNAME <3!My favorite off AI. It always tugs at my heartstrings, in a good way.
Maddy. Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I put this on repeat every day. I never get sick of this song. <3It's really weird saying this but whenever I listen to this song I kind of drift off and don't realise the song is playing until the end. Does anyone else have this? And whenever it ends I just want to listen to it again. I can't listen to this song and then some more upbeat song right after it. It just doesn't ~flow. It's the perfect ending for an amazing album.
