Harinezumi Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 This song makes me tear up. It's painful, haha.Yeah, especially the last few lines. I still love it though, it's one of my favorite songs.

The Breakdown Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Ever since this was posted, I have listened to the song over 30 times. Something i havent done in a long time. Brought back heaps of memories. Some not so good.
Mar Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 One song that I always skipThis does not compute!(Kidding...but seriously, I don't think I've ever encountered anyone who doesn't like this song. Not that that's bad, just sayin )
Sara. Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I love this song, it's one of my faves from AI. It's just so sad, beautiful and catchy. and I really like the lyrics too. Whatsername is amazing in every way
Katarina. Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Finally it's song of the week! I love it It seems like forever ago..
Isabel Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I'm very "meh" about this song. Not one of my favourites off American Idiot. But I much prefer it to She's A Rebel.
Mrs. Nobody Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Abso-fuckin-lutely beautiful this song. Cried first time i heard, and it still brings tears to my eyes.It makes such a fantastic 'end'. amazing, truly amazing
anymor Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 "Then it turned out to only be a dream" shows the impact of Whatsername on his life...was this a good or a bad dream (running into her)? We don't know. Yet, he still thinks about her, she's still in his subconscious. He can burn the physical evidence of her, and attempt to act nonchalant towards her, but she's still in his head. He forgets about her during the day, but at night? He can't forget her completely, and he sure as hell can't forget the time they spent together. It's not a love song, but it's a loving song that emphasizes, as indirectly and as nonchalantly as possible, the impact someone can have on our lives.thanks for suggesting me the right words, I couldn't explain it better. I remember when american idiot came out and this was my goodnight song , every night I listened it at least three or four times.
Juliette Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 They really should play this live more often. This is one of my favourites off AI. And I like in the 2nd video during the transition from slow to fast how they all kinda freeze
cherylr Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Great song. Great ending to the AI album. They take you through all the high emotions of "the time" then afterward when it's just a memory. They did such a great job making AI a story."Forgetting you but not the time" is such a great line. The second video is great.
Agija Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Whatsername is one of those songs which can make me cry whenever I listen to it. It's sad and so beautiful at the same time. Definitely one of my favorite songs off American Idiot.I love the lyrics, especially the ending. <3
Spizz Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 yeah, the video makes me regurgitate internally as well
sampy Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Yes, yes, Whatsername ! Ah, what a grreat song. It's a perfect ending for AI-record, it's beautiful, amazing melody and brilliant lyrics! It kinda reminds me of my ex-girlfriend but I've get over of it and anyway it's my all time favorite Green Day song. Yeah, I think it's the greatest one.
Nobody_Likes_You Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Most amazing song to such an amazing album. Def One of my faves.
Harriet Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I love this song to pieces. It was really the best way to end AI, I'm so glad they didn't just end with Homecoming. Whatsername is the perfect epilogue. "Forgetting you but not the time" is one of my favourite lines of a song ever and they mean so much to me. If I ever get any song lyrics as a tattoo, I know what they're gonna be.
troPunK Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Christmas Gift....This song always makes me so nostalgic about great times I had spent with 'whatsername' (welll, she's still there with me....but still :-P)I loved the live performance of this song in VH1 Storytellers.Had wished so much that they played in Bullet in a Bible
Comedy & Tragedy Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 God I love. First Green Day song to bring me to tears!!!
