LetItBeHappy Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I SO called this being Christmas' song weeks ago! I can't begin to explain my love for this song. It's so poignant and perfect. "Forgetting you but not the time" - I love that line so much. In Jesus' year of living dangerously that is American Idiot as a whole, even with his homecoming and losing touch with Whatsername, Tunny, and of course St. Jimmy, he still remembers what he went through, and that impacted his life so much. "Then it turned out to only be a dream" shows the impact of Whatsername on his life...was this a good or a bad dream (running into her)? We don't know. Yet, he still thinks about her, she's still in his subconscious. He can burn the physical evidence of her, and attempt to act nonchalant towards her, but she's still in his head. He forgets about her during the day, but at night? He can't forget her completely, and he sure as hell can't forget the time they spent together. It's not a love song, but it's a loving song that emphasizes, as indirectly and as nonchalantly as possible, the impact someone can have on our lives.Beautiful song, beautiful lyrics. So much emotion in Billie's voice, and Tre and Mike just bring so much to the song (especially Mike; I adore the bass line). So glad this is SOTW! I love what you wrote there Yet again, I'm going to throw this out there... I like the Whatsername video. bwahahaStill it deserved a better video and an actual release.I couldn't stand that video xD It deserved a GREAT video, something like Jesus walking, remembering everything, and ending up in the place where he had his chair during Jesus of Suburbia, to burn every single photograph and all
Ratch Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I remember four years ago, listening to this song many a night before I went to bed. It always reminds me of when I lived in an apartment building and it was oddly fitting for the times I had there.
justcause Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I think the first lines of this song are the most telling, because they're to 'you' - before it slips into the 'she', the telling of this story to whoever else, he's talking to Whatsername, the connection alive and continuous. When he talks about the 'different path' he took after she went away, there's the sense of wondering what she would think of this path, that all of it is forever in the shadow of what they dreamed of doing together. Maybe this song is just looking for closure - but maybe at its heart, it's looking for a second chance.

Savior of Rebellion Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 What could possibly be a better epilogue to story so powerful? There could never be an ending more poignant, painful, regretful, ironic, reflectful ending. I could go on for hours shaping my opinion on this song. It's definetly one of the most reminiscent songs I'll probably ever hear. It's just a perfect embodiment of a true hero, and how much impact a person can have...it doesn't matter how well you can lie to yourself, you can't deny what you felt- in the end you can't run away from your emotions......in other words, its a good pick for song of the week
Guest Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Sure. Show usWATCH:http://www.megavideo.com/?d=IY9OIECKDOWNLOAD:http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IY9OIECKunfortuanely i can only have WMV sawwy
Savior of Rebellion Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I like in the beginning of the first video, when Billie's guitar isn't working properly he just continues with the song like he's thinking 'fuck it, I'm just gonna wing it' and Mike and Tre just keep playing
GDM Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Hot damn! Those boys sound good!! Love that second live clip version! Hot!
Michael128 Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Remember, whateverIt seems like forever ago.Remember, whateverIt seems like forever ago.The regrets are uselessIn my mind. She's in my head,I must confess. The regrets are uselessIn my mind. She's in my head -From so long ago – (go … go … go … go).And in the darkest night,If my memory serves me right,I'll never turn back time.Forgetting you, but not the time.Oh, god. Some of my favorite lyrics. Easily my favorite song off of AI. It just reminds me of....someone. I sometimes have dreams of playing it for her while dancing with her....while drunk. I think this is the first GD song I ever fell in love with. The lyrics and emotions in this song really hit me.I'm learning this song on piano right now, and it's so beautiful.I'm really glad this song was picked. again lol Do you mind sending me the sheet music if you can? I'm too lazy to go look for it.

1000SlappyHours Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 This would be an awesome acoustic encore. I'm sick of Letterbomb and Homecoming but i never get sick off Whatsername.

Heather! Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I always forget how truly amazing this song is... it's one I don't listen to often, but I really appreciate everything about it when I do.
Supermodel*Robot Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 I always forget about this song. It's just so different from everything else. I need to be in a verrrry chillz mood to listen to it on it's own. It's a great album closer though.
