fashionvictim86 Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 The brown CD tray is rare? If so - awesome! The Dookie album I have has the brown tray, but no Ernie. Now that I think about it, and I've seen sooo many copies of Dookie throught my years, I don't think there is a actual rare edition of Dookie.RIP to my first Dookie I bought in '94. A few years ago, I remember I was at college, I took it out of my CD player, and it literally shattered.
Nimrod99 Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Sadly my Insomniac CD bit it (well actually Geek Stink Breath bit it), so I've got two copies of it. Glad to see this thread come back to life.
Isabel Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 wow, til now I didn't know how lucky I am I have also one of those Dookie CD's with Ernie on the back but I've bought it just a year ago.Are they really that rare? You can't get them in Ireland anymore (well, in the likes of Tower and HMV, etc.) I bought the Dookie vinyl a few months ago and Ernie wasn't on the back. But my original copy of the CD that I bought in 2001 has him on it
Greenday_Aussie Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Dookie in AUS has always had Ernie on it, still does...I hope, I havent bought a real copy yet!
The Disappearing Boy Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 i wondered what happened to this thread. i like it
sharon mitchell Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 I've been a fan since 1994, but I've only been collecting GD stuff (apart from cds) for the past three years. I've made up for lost time, though. This is my little stash, and it's growing every day http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=8526...mp;l=df177cff45

I'd call flying all the way to Las freaking Vegas to see Green Day making up! It was lovely to meet you. Oh, and your stuff is amazing!

Trina Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 My copy of Dookie has Ernie on the back! I would have only got it in like 2005 though, so I guess it's just because Ireland is far behind! Has anyone ever seen the Dookie with the neon green case?! I sometimes see it and want to get it just cause it looks sweet....I'll probably go back one page and see people talking about it!
sharon mitchell Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 It was great to meet you too Lauren!!!And if you click on my link, Trina, photograph #9 has the neon Dookie, bottom row, second from left.

I'm glad that other people have more than one copy of each album too. I've wanted the Look for Love album for so long, but whenever I see it, I don't have the $$ for it.I'm too lazy to.A. Find all my stuff and organize it....there's soo much stuff and even stuff in storage.B. Take pictures of it. I have about 200 tshirts alone.

matteo263 Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 i'm not an old fan but can i ask a question? Which was the most famous era? American Idiot or dookie?

I have about 200 tshirts alone.I have 26 tees and five hoodies and I thought that was excessive!!!! Plus shoes, socks, shoelaces, air fresheners ..... my family and friends know what to buy to keep me happy.I was lucky with Look For Love - it was a 'buy now' on eBay from someone who lives in Oakland, and who shares a very unusual surname with someone close to the band. I paid a quarter of the top price I'd seen it on sale for.i'm not an old fan but can i ask a question? Which was the most famous era? American Idiot or dookie? The world knew them after AI. I think Dookie was mainly an American thing for the most part - I only ever heard them on world band radio, not very often on the British radio stations until about the time of Nimrod.
BraedonHorbacio Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Oh i know what you mean! I usually figured out waht the songs were about by the drawing inside the dookie cd booklet.Did you ever pick up the copy of "Dookie" that Ernie was on the back, Oh man i wish i still had that CD case of that.Oh i know what you mean, when warning. came out it did seem like it was the last of the gravy days.Mine has Ernie on the back
fashionvictim86 Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 i'm not an old fan but can i ask a question? Which was the most famous era? American Idiot or dookie?Well, the majority of the fans I talk to, I would say 70%, are American Idiot era fans. I think AI sold more than Dookie too. But I can't remember 100% right now.For veterans, Dookie is the most popular era that we became fans in and stuck with it. A few here and there are from Kerplunk and 1039. Since I'm from small town PA, I never heard of Green Day till Dookie because that kind of music wasn't around here much.

My sisters were big fans and said they hadn't heard of Green Day until that album. They never expected me to become a bigger fan than them And I've been to your small town many times. I'm from Scranton

My cousins, aunt, and uncle are from Scranton. And an ex friend. Who amazingly knew them.

Who amazingly knew them.My neighbor had a friend there and would make me go with her so I never really had a choice. It wasn't as bad a Scranton though =PAnd I never knew anyone in Scranton knew them haha that's pretty cool
Greenday_Aussie Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Im not even sure Im a veteran anymore I loved Green Day since I was like 4 or 5 (heard their songs on the radio...I ADORED WICA, Warning and Minority but didnt know who sung them), then I discovered who sung these songs after AI came out and went and bought all their CDs...Im thinking half-half here.
elle1039 Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 I think I belong in this thread. ChatNoir (love the username btw) kindly directed me here from the age poll. First time I heard GD was Basket Case. I've been a fan ever since. They didn't get a whole lot of UK TV/Radio coverage in the 90s to be honest... which is a shame. But, they're making up for it now. LoL
LilyMarie Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Longview was the first song I remember hearing of theirs, in like 95, I think? I did my best to find out everything I could about them after that. I've loved them ever since, and most of my kids are big fans, too.
Whatsername1533 Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 I don't think I would consider myself a vet but when I was like 3 I would always ask my dad to play Dookie cause I thought it was cool that ernie was on the back. He would play a song like longview or Basket Case and he would pick me up and pretend I was a guitar. (some of my best memories of when I was a kid had Green Day involved) I didnt listen to them with my dad for awhile then 5 years ago I came back from visiting family in MA and when he picked me up from the airport I surprised him and put Dookie in the CD player and his face lit up and we both started rocking out it was pretty awesome. lol Then like 3 years ago I searched the his 1000+ CD collection to see if I could find the original Dookie with ernie on the back but he doesnt have it anymore.
American Basket Case Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 I think I belong in this thread. ChatNoir (love the username btw) kindly directed me here from the age poll. Well, if we're talking age-wise, I belong in this thread, too. First time I heard GD was Basket Case. I've been a fan ever since.I'm 99% positive that's the first GD song I heard - I think it's still my favorite (it's hard to pick just one song). I rescued my sister's Dookie CD with Ernie on the back from the basement. Unfortunately, I didn't keep up with GD (I was going to write that you all have no idea how much I regret that now, but as GD fans, you probably do understand). Anyway, I'm trying to make up for lost time, I guess...
