Greenday_Aussie Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Sharon, could you send me the 4 tracks please? (BTW, I found out Lights out is the Jap bonus track!)
...staples? Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I remember when I was 4, my dad was big into car audio stuff, so he was always looking for songs with good basslines. So naturally he listened to "Longview" alot. I remember sitting ontop of his speakerbox while it was playing and I was getting shook around. And always after the song was over it left my ears ringing. From that point on I listened to our Dookie tape faithfully and watched MTV and the radio for a Green Day song. As I got older, I was able to buy the albums myself! So I've been a fan for 15 years. Wow. That's crazy!
Starbug Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Sharon, could you send me the 4 tracks please? (BTW, I found out Lights out is the Jap bonus track!)Yes, and then you can send them to me I can't get my freakin' hands on them! I don't have iTunes, so I couldn't have bought them anyway...I'm about to get ready and go out and buy my copy. Not sure which one I want. I could just get the regular run of the mill version, but then there's the version with some live tracks at Target, right? I wonder what tracks they have... hmm... Either way, today is shaping up to be a decent day
Nimrod99 Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 This album is amazing. Last Night on Earth has a real deep meaning to me. It describes how I feel about my horse(s)... minus the fire part lol. It came really close to bringing me to tears. There's too much to take in, and I've only listened to the album twice now, so I'm sure more will hit me later one. Horseshoes and Handgranades and Christians Inferno are going to be insane live... can't wait for that!
billiebeats Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Hello fellow vets. And kids that give me shit in the other topics. Some of you started listening to Green Day at 5. Thats crazy. This has been an awesome week. Im so inlove with this album, I havent been this excited since Jaded in Chicago first aired, or skipping school to buy Insomniac.....no pirating back in those days. Do all the other old folks in here love the album? Im actually blown away by it. I absolutely love it.PS. does anyone have the b-side covers? I saw someone in here that started listening to Green Day when they were 3.
kim246 Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 i allways remember when i was a kid green day being on. My mum and dad are total green day nuts, Dads more excited than me bout the concerts!!
deathtofalsesushi Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Saw them at the first Live 105 BFD back in 1994. The other bands were Beck, Violent Femmes, Oingo Boingo, Toad the Wet Sprocket, The Pretenders, Rollins Band, and it was headlined by...The Knack. Green Day and Beck were like the 2nd and 3rd bands up, which shows how long ago this was. Nowadays that lineup would be flipped. Green Day definitely got the biggest reaction from the crowd. It was their first BIG show and they were having fun with it. I'll never forget the comment by Mike that it was like they took all the clubs they ever played and put them in one place. The green Dookie t-shirt was selling for $15, while all the other bands' shirts were like $25. Needless to say they sold a lot of them, because I'd be wearing it that summer and then I'd run into some other kid wearing the same shirt, and then when school started in September I saw it all over. That show is in the download section, you all should check it out. (6/10/94 Mountain View) I've been to better Green Day shows (like at the Warfield and at the Fillmore, the one that's all over YouTube) but that one was special because that's when I became a fan.
fashionvictim86 Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 I saw someone in here that started listening to Green Day when they were 3.That pisses me off when people say that......I mean c'mon. The guys of Green Day were only 13 when I was 3, there was no Green Day. And I don't even remember what I listened to! Probably nothing.
belinda jane Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 when i was 3 i listened to nursery rhymes.good times.
Katarina. Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 I've been listening to GD since 2004, but I remember listening to When I come around when I was younger, without realizing it was Green Day xDWell, I'm not a Veteran if you want to call it like that, I've to wait like 8 years
The Disappearing Boy Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 when i was 3 i listened to nursery rhymes.good times.humpty dumpty > Green Day.
The Disappearing Boy Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Since when? since always. humpty is hardcore punk. he beat up 'all the kings horses and all the kings men' when they didn't put him together again.
junkpile Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 it was 1994 when i came back from a holiday-trip with my family. we visited my cousins who introduced me to some punk rock music. back at home my friend showed me this "basket case single", telling me i might like this.this 4-track single was awesome, included "basket case", "on the wagon", "tired of waiting for you" and a re-recorded version of "409 in your coffeemaker".like i said, this was (and considering the b-sides, still is) an amazing single.the albums "dookie", "insomniac" and "kerplunk" were a partial soundtrack to my early days as a teenager. after "insomniac" i thought they might have quitted because it became quite silent with green day. also, the media back in the day wasn't the same as it is today.no internet or anything, also, i didn't watch tv. so, i haven't even seen a single video of green day, let alone a live performance.late 1997 "nimrod" surprisingly hit the stores and i was just as amazed as back in the day. (in 1999 i ordered a copy of "1039 sosh". i didn't even know this existed, a 1st album, thought "kerplunk" was the first.) well, then the silence set in again. more than 3 years passed and "warning" came out.don't know why exactly, but i was disappointed, less songs, the aggressive side was gone.it took some months til i approached "warning" again, it was another revival of the old stuff and i gave warning another listen, bought the album and it became my favourite. despiting the good memories of the dookie days, warning still is my favourite album.warning didn't blow up like any previous and following album and around this time, people already forgot about green day. bands like limp bizikit, korn and linkin park had their zenith. then, i witnessed my first green day live performance, which was 2001's appearance at the "bizarre festival", one of their best in my opinion, they made the whole scene move and sing along, although they didn't have any hit singles out and they were not some well dressed rock stars like nowadays. (no critic, i think the dresscode nowadays fits, but i prefer their casual look)
Hermione Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Haha my nephew's 1 and he hears Green Day all the time. When Hitchin A Ride's on he sings along with us "ba-ba ba-ba ba-ba babababa" in time with the guitar. He enjoys it like he enjoys any music, I say it counts! Veteran potential right there.since always. humpty is hardcore punk. he beat up 'all the kings horses and all the kings men' when they didn't put him together again. What I want to know is how we know he's an egg???
billiebeats Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 There are alot of harcore fucking kids in here. I mean, how many of you real veterans were listening to punk rock when you were 3???? itsallcalypso Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 I was 9 when Dookie came out. For about a year you could not escape Basket Case and When I Come Around. Dookie was actually one of the first cds I ever bought back in 4th grade.

sharon mitchell Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I feel like a true veteran - 50 years young today, thanks to this band. I woke up to Holiday, then the next DJ played Know Your Enemy. What a great start to the day.I was at least twice the age of most of the audience in Paris last week, and when I met the guys in the street in London on 5th May they must have wondered if they were hallucinating - ALL AGES works both ways.
