Anja Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Green Day opened all those punk doors for me, doors to ALL KINDS of music. They have been a big, influential part of my life and memories. That's why I love them so much, and a lot of people can't understand that.Hence why I spend so much time here lolI have to agree with that. I used to listen to just one specific kind of music before I listened to GD and since that day I´m completely into all kinds of punk and rock music. They not only opened music doors for me but also doors to issues I´ve never dealt with before like political ones and so on. I remember buying "Bullet in a bible" because I´ve seen Billie Joe playing "Good Riddance" in a MTV documentary and I just really wanted to have this song. I went shopping with my parents this day and all I did was just sitting in a store, listening to the cd on my discman (the things we had before mp3 players) and waiting for my parents to go. I know, that´s nothing for you old veterans But I just like telling memories and stories about this band. And I´m sure I will have a lot more to tell after next week...I wish I had been around since the early days especially now that I´m living in the Bay and see what it is like, sort of. But I´m very lucky for you and keep your memories I can´t believe I haven´t read this thread when it was created @ myself. It´s gonna take a while to read through the 27 pages.Did you ever pick up the copy of "Dookie" that Ernie was on the back, Oh man i wish i still had that CD case of that.I wonder why I was able to get a copy of this. I bought mine in late 05.
Drink Drank Punk Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 I wonder why I was able to get a copy of this. I bought mine in late 05.I was kinda wondering that too. I bought mine in 2003 so I guess I just got lucky.
Greenday_Aussie Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Like I said, its 2009 here () And Ernie is still on ALL Dookies Ive EVER seen in Australia. They lied
Hermione Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Ha it's on all Dookies in the UK too. I think only the US is Ernie-less.
Nimrod99 Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Ha it's on all Dookies in the UK too. I think only the US is Ernie-less.You can still find them here in the US as well, but I think they just haven't made any more copies of it with Ernie on the back.
flyingTIGER Posted March 22, 2009 Posted March 22, 2009 Vets=Old heads like us. Yeh dude, I have tons of great memories of the Dookie era. I remember everyone freaking out at my middle school dance when they played "Longview" uncensored (this was a Catholic school). That was great. They were insanely huge then. Everyone had Green Day patches on their bags and had that cd. I remember seeing the video for "When I Come Around" and pulling the phone off the hooks at my school just like Billie Joe did. How impressoniable I was!bahaha fuck dude my catholic school I used to go to (moreau) would nevverrr play longview, ever. I remember once asking the DJ to play a rock song and they ended up playing Kelly Clarkson... and I cried... ahahha
Starbug Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Okay, I'm resurrecting this thread. It's time, i think, with new people coming in and out. There are a few new vets I've noticed popping up. So here it is.Also, what do you oldies think of what you've seen from all this new Green Day so far?I think it's great. I read through all the lyrics again today, and while it seems very angry, I have started finding lines I identify with, and on the first go through, I didn't. There has always been a common thread in every GD album that some of the lyrics hit me in the gut, and I didn't see that the first time I read them. now I'm seeing it. And I look forward to hearing it, too.Oh, and I like the video, too! hahaThoughts?
b u r n o u t Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Well I'm not happy with the new direction Green Day has taken, but some of it is growing on me. "Lights Out" was a surprise and like a beacon of hope for me when I had thought I lost the band altogether, so I'm very appreciative to them for it....even though it's a B-Side. As for memories, two that I'll carry with me for the rest of my life are seeing them in October 1996 on their Insomniac Tour. Such an awesome show and they opened with Armatage Shanks! The other memory is the concert they had on MTV to promote Nimrod (the one where Mike accidentally smashed himself in the face with his bass) and my friend stopped by with two hits of acid and we watched the concert, tripping our balls off. lolGood times. Good times indeed.
Starbug Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 aw, i'm 12 years not 13 Doesn't matter. It's not that strict lol You're a long time fan, come on in.Well I'm not happy with the new direction Green Day has taken, but some of it is growing on me. Good times indeed. I bet Green Day is a 'trip' on acid ahahaI've never watched Green Day under the influence of anything, unless you count watching International Supervideos and BIAB stoned as a goose lol I want to see them clearly, with nothing going on that might make me forget anything or blur it. I want to be bright eyed and bushy tailed for my boys I'm the kind of fan that's convinced that I'll pretty much love whatever they do, but I see what you mean about the new direction. It definitely is a new direction. But from all the clips and things I've heard, I think the music for this album is gonna be fantastic. I'm slowly falling in love with it, and I don't even have it in my hands yet. Every album means something special to me, for different reasons. This one will be the same. I'll probably associate with all the traveling I intend to do this summer, and all the people I'll get to meet. Should be a great time
fashionvictim86 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Ehhh 15 years is a long time to love a band...I can't believe it's been that long already....I can remember when I was 15 years old! Its hard to believe almost 12 years has past.......

Its hard to believe almost 12 years has past.......It is crazy. 15 years is a long time to love one band so much, but it's been such a great ride and worth it. They've had so much of an impact on my life, I think I'd be a completely different person without them being in it. Sounds dramatic, but absolutely true.

Should be a great time Well the MTV thing was on television, so what I missed due to my stupor I could always catch again on re-runs. lol In fact I think you can find it on YouTube. Praise the internets! I'm sure their new album will be fantastic on it's own merits. I've said this before, but regardless of what they choose to do musically or professionally, I'll always be a fan. That's how much of an impact they've had on me.Green Day 4 Ever

I don't personally know them, but sometimes I feel like I do, at least from their music and what I know of them. Their music is one of my best friends, and always will be.
Nimrod99 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I agree with a lot that's been said. I don't see myself not being a Green Day fan . Being doing it for so long (15 years), it's like I don't know any other way . Between albums it seems like the passion for the band dies down a little, but when the news starts flowing, the flames start burning again. I can't wait to hear the album. I just hope it's not too AI like. I really want to hear the whole version of Murder City, and I absolutely love Lights Out. I'm excited that Green Day is back with new material... and I can't wait to see them in Seattle. Lastly, welcome back Vets thread.

Lastly, welcome back Vets thread. It's not just a hobby, it's a way of life I'm so excited by this upcoming tour, I can't stand it. Mine also dies down a little between albums, except for between AI and this one. It's stronger, almost, than it ever has been. Seeing them in concert, then seeing the Foxboro Hot Tubs and discovering the Network (which I didn't know was Green Day at the time they released their album, but I had heard of them lol) all of that has happened in the last four years. Oh yeah, and Shenanigans lol So I've had a lot of 'new to me' Green Day to digest. But now this new album is coming, and I can't wait to make a whole new slew of memories. Should be exciting Oh yeah, I hope this thread stays active for a little while. I enjoy posting in here.

I'm happily awaiting the new album and tour as well. I wasn't there for the foxies tour (which I'm kind of glad because it would have really bummed me that they came no where near close to me). I was a few months too late in finding out about them. I'm looking forward to all the great Green Day things that are to come.

When Insomniac came out I used to carry my portable CD player to the bus stop and listen to it on the bus all the way to school every day.
Nimrod99 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 When Insomniac came out, I used to take my discman to school and my friend and I used to sing Brain Stew as Beavis and Butthead. Ah, the good ol' carefree days. lmao.

I'd talk like Beavis on purpose to piss her off..Anyone a member of the Idiot club when it first started? I still have my idiot card, flyer, and the 3 postcards of the guys (the ones with their kid pictures)!
Eighty. Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I find all this comments very interesting 15 years is a looong time, I only know Green Day from 6 years more or less I admire you really all of this "stories" for me are awesome
belinda jane Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 i've been a 'green day veteran' for 12 years, and you know.. when i first heard their music it wasn't even from them.i remember i was at a school camp, and this teacher used to play guitar and sing and i remember him singing 'good riddance'. from that day on i was like, dying to know the name of that song, and one day i saw the video on 'video hits', which is an australian music video show.i made my dad take me to the local cd store and i bought the single, but shortly after i bought the album.it was probably hilarious to my parents that a 7 year old was listening to songs like 'nice guys finish last' and 'platypus'. rofl.but yeah, just thought i'd share that.'good riddance' was the first song i heard from green day, and we even sang it at our grade six graduation.it's a sign that they're meant to stay with me.i thought i'd grow out of them like so many other bands i had (e.g the rasmus), haha.but, nope. 12 years later and they're still apart of my life, if not, more than ever.i can't thank them enough for what they've done to me (good things).
sharon mitchell Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 It seems strange to think that when I first got into these guys, my son was 2. He takes his driving test next month, aged 17 and a half. Meep. At least he was brought up to listen to good music!I can never see a time that I grow tired of this band. I still grin like an idiot when I hear them on the radio, or blasting from somebody's car. I love the new direction, which isn't really new - they have changed direction with every album, sometimes subtly (39/Smooth > Kerplunk) and sometimes like a hammer blow (Warning > AI). I love their versatility, and from the recent footage I have seen, I love how they still seem to be the very best of friends. How many other bands stick together for twenty years and still talk to each other?
