lol, I'll allow it.

To keep on topic: Does anyone remember the concert where BJ got nailed in the nuts by a shoe? Mike was dancing around him laughing... I was dying of hysterical laughter. lol.

I've never seen that. I'm sure there's a video of it on the net, somewhere.

I swear, one of these days I'm going to have high speed, and when I do, I will be immersed in Green Day for daaaaays lol

Oh goodness, it's so fucking hilarious. It's like slo-mo impact... BAM! Billie goes down grabbing himself and has to take a time-out. Then Mike approaches and starts prancing around him in circles laughing at him. Finally Billie gets up and says something like "Did you see that? Someone just hit me in the nuts. Who did that? You did that? You're an asshole. I can't have kids now. Look what you did to me.". Ebay's always good for finding concert tapes and stuff.

56k internet!

 56k?! *screams & runs*

lol

Good morn, vets & lurking non-vets!

I thought this might be an interesting discussion for us who have grown up with GD : In comparison with all previous albums, how do/did you feel about AI & what do you think the present (21CB) & future may hold?

I know I could go on for quite a while with how I feel about AI (good & not so good), but I have to go get ready for work.

& I won't be offended if nobody's interested in my discussion topic...lol

AI was alright, but it wasn't the norm, ya know? I can and do still listen to it, it think it's a classic in it's own right but it's not really what I expected. I wanna hear another angry album like Insomniac, but sadly I don't think I'll ever get that.

My best story about Green Day is this....

As long as I was a fan, ( Dookie Era )

Green Day never came to Louisville, Ky for a concert. I went to school with a bunch of people who all thought Green Day was cool when Dookie came out, but thought they were posers after that. I tell you, it was brutal in my high school to be a Green Day fan. I was always picked on about that...I remember jokes about how Billie only knew three chords, how every album sounds the same. How Rancid & Offspring were both better and neither band liked Green Day.

Fast forward to 2004..I'm married, I have a son and Green Day was finally coming to Louisville, Ky for the American Idiot tour...OMG, I couldn't believe it. Of course I bought a ticket for me and my wife. Well things went south in our relationship and we split 4 days before the concert.

I remember talking with my brother and he was like, you still going to go by yourself. I said fuck yeah, I don't care...I'm not missing this for anything.

Sure enough, I was there by myself and a bunch of teenagers. I remember Sugarcult being really cool and New Found Glory was lame. However, watching Green Day perform was the most amazing thing I ever seen ( minus my son being born ) I sang and jumped as loud, as long and as hard as I could during their entire set. I called my brother screaming while they were performing Homecoming telling him this was the greatest thing ever!! He later told me that he never heard me that happy.

After the concert was over, I drove past the arena, screaming out of the window that Green Day ruled...my throat was wrecked, my neck was aching, but I had the biggest smile on my face.

We ended up getting a divorce, but I remember for that moment back in April of 2004....I had the time of my life thanks to Green Day.

Now as the new album prepares to come out, I'm already planning to go whatever tour date is closest to my hometown in case they don't come by this time.

To me, I'm proud to see a band that I followed when I was just 13 years old, still kick ass when I'm 28 years old. I hope that one day, I can share my Green Day albums with my son and he will enjoy them as much as I do. And who knows...maybe he will be able to go to a concert with me if they are still playing in the next 5 to 10 years....and I have a feeling that Green Day isn't going anywhere.

P.S - Please add Green Day to Rock Band

;)

That really is an awesome story, except for the divorce part.

I adore AI. It's my 2nd favorite album, after Dookie. I wasn't disappointed in it in the least. Yes, it was different. 21CB looks to be even more different, even though we've only heard the one song. I dunno just the vibe I'm getting from the lyrics I've read and what they've said in interviews makes me think that this is going to be a controversial, but beautiful, ambitious album. What was it Butch Vig said (I think) that they were swinging wildly for the stars, or something like that? 21CB demo sounds quite epic to me... but you can't really fairly compare their older stuff w/ their newer stuff. They're like apples and oranges. Both are nice fruits, but very different flavors. I'm excited to find out what they've got for us next. I do miss the old stuff, but everybody grows up, ya know?

 man a GD song from kerplunk gave me tears, lol

well here is a story from the past, when i was in middle school i met this girl that was Billies cousin, at first i thought she was BSin me, but well in doubt she was telling me the truth. He was down for the weekend at family gathering of somesort and she invited me to come out, but i was grounded at the time. But she made it up to me and let me sort through a bunch of pic from that day (remember we didnt have digital camera back then) and i picked 3 pics of him and 1 of the "Dookie" Gold Record that he was holding in a case. She blew them up for me, i was sooo happy. Then some girl 3 days later stole them from my back pack :(. I really wish i could find this girl again, hmmm

I need a tshirt to wear when they come to my town : "Proud GD vet of 13+ years, recognize & get the fuck out of my way"

Anyway, damn Jeff! That's awesome, & then horrifying. :ermm: I'd kick some serious ass if someone stole something like that from me!!

If I were you, & I were grounded, I prolly would've run away lol ;)

I'm pretty stubborn about GD too haha ~ I'm just another asshole critic is what it really is

I couldn't stand AI when it first came out. I liked all the singles, but then they were so horribly overplayed that it didn't take long for me to despise the thought of listening to the radio, let alone the CD.

I had 2 main problems with it : it had too much of an "emo twinge" to the music, & I really didn't feel I could identify with most of the lyrics (I still can't). I just felt like it was written for this younger generation, not my own. Honestly, it turned me off to music in general for about 4 years; I felt as though "if this is what Green Day's doing now, I have lost all faith in music" lol.

Upon deep inspection of AI, however, it grew on me a bit. It's a very powerfully written album, from the lyrics to the music & all; you can really tell all the blood, sweat & tears that went into it. The whole concept of it was great, & BJ's lyrical deliverance of the story was well played out ~ It really was a masterpiece. I realized it just wasn't my preferred cup of tea. And so I came to the realization that, after growing up with them for all those years, GD grew up a bit without me ... and I guess I was kind of mad at them for it LOL

After about 4 years, I found this internet radio thing, & it kept playing GD; so, I decided to see what they were up to (& thus how I found my now beloved GDA hehe). Turned out, they were up to FHT (still only rumored to be GD at the time). Listening to the pure genius that was FHT made me fall in love all over again ~ FHT is totally "my cup of tea", & it made up for AI in my mind lol. It showed that they still had that fun, "fuck it" attitude that's gotten me through life quite well so far.

As for 21CB, I can't deny that I'm quite nervous. While the lyrics I've read so far seem amazing, & I feel I can relate to them more...the music I've heard so far seems a little too "mature Green Day" for me. Surely it will be a masterpiece regardless, as I don't personally think they're capable of failure at this point lol; but, I'll always feel at home with a simple, dance-able song backed by great fuckin' lyrics.

[/rambling] ~ Thanks, guys, for humoring me a bit with the discussion

On that note, I really have to ask my fellow vets about this : How did ya feel about the guyliner?

For those wondering, it was a show in Hollywood in 1997 (BJ and the shoe). As far as AI goes, it was ok, but I miss the rawness of Insomniac... and I am fairly sure that there will never be another album like Insomniac. I don't like the whole idea of concept albums. I just listen to the songs, and forget all of the story lines that are supposed to be there. Don't get me wrong, AI will go down in history, but it's just not something that I was completely drawn to. I have high hopes for the new album, but again I am a little hesitant on the concept album stuff. Oh, and I hated the guyliner. Imo, makeup is stupid. Why coverup who you are?

Just thought I'd let yall know I'm workin on a sig right now for all us vets, it should be done in like a half hour.
