Guest billy024 Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 um.i dated a girl one time who was a huge green day fan.she got me to join the forum, but she never joined.and we were really close, and then she broke up with me.and i was listening to good riddance and emily (from first to last).yea i was bawling, but anyway that was the only time.i think if i could have a conversation with any of the guys, i'd be ultra happy.i love green day obviously, so yea i guess that is an emotion.
jesus the rage guy Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 maybe a few can understand this, but i get emotional over holiday...even if many times is my happy song, sometimes when i feel hopeless i sing the song loud and lyrics just fits all my emotions
Ila Reto Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 ^ the only emotional connection i have with that song, is that it's the one song that got me into green day. and when i think of how far i've came since then, sometimes that gets me a bit sentimental or emotional.
mechanicalman Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 I cry whenever I hear WMUWSE. It makes my ears hurt really badly.

Starbug Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 It's not designed to be a "goodbye" song, its what is it - good riddance. its is goodbye in a bad way sort when you say to an enemy "f** off and i hope you have the time of your f***ing life" sort of thing.Billie Joe told Kerrang..."That song was written about an ex-girlfriend who moved to a different country to follow her studies. I was trying to have a nice farewell for her, to look at it really level-headed. But I don't think you can ever look at those things completely level-headed so that's why I called the song 'Good Riddance'..."Mike went on to say it was tapping into some of the stuff they'd done on Kerplunk...Basically, I think the song is whatever anyone wants it to be. To me, it invokes memories and warmth. Which sometimes, being the mooshy girl I am, makes me cry. It's a beautiful song, no matter what the meaning behind it is.

Any song that moves me may do so for any number of reasons - regardless of what the songwriter meant it to mean. That doesn't make my feelings wrong. I don't see anything wrong with playing it in any kind of situation - it was written from the heart, and it's a beautiful song. I like knowing what was going on in Billie Joe's life when he wrote it, but that doesn't mean I have to have those same feelings when I listen to it.I'm a mooshy girl, too

Completely about sex. And it's such a pretty song, just two dudes and an acoustic guitar. It's beautiful! But it's all sex lol Not that there's anything at all wrong w/ sex, but being the youngster I once was, I just thought it was a pretty love song, when in fact, it's him telling her to show him she loves him w/ sex heh. But it's still pretty And Good Riddance WILL be played at my funeral lol That'll get 'em cryin'! haha

mbk Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 Hahaha - Good Riddance will probably be played at my funeral, too - more because of the title than anything else I know right, what an odd choice for funerals, weddings, and graduations... "We're glad to be rid of ya!"
Laura33 Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 People were only hearing the "I hope you had the time of your life" but and were thinking 'Oh wow, how heartfelt and appropriate' Bless them.
Ila Reto Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 the one part of good riddance that gets me a bit over emotional is when he goes "so take the photographs and still frames in your mind. hangit on a shelf in good health & good time. Tattoos and memories and dead skin on trial. for what it's worth, it was worth all the while". my god. i...im so emotional. i know what the song is about, but really, we can all mold it into any way to interpret songs. (even though now, it sort of is "we had a great time, and i'll always remember it, but fuck you" anyway). but i dont think Good Riddance is the only song to get emotional on right? What abotu Scattered? 80? Stuart & the Ave and No Pride?
Mrs. Nobody Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 God I can cry listening to any music.. eve stuff like slipknot Whatsername makes me cry quite often x) but it can be of joy though
Starbug Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 People were only hearing the "I hope you had the time of your life" but and were thinking 'Oh wow, how heartfelt and appropriate' Bless them.Well, Billie Joe played it at the end of the concerts on the AI tour, soooo... I think it was heartfelt and very appropriate
mbk Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Well, Billie Joe played it at the end of the concerts on the AI tour, soooo... I think it was heartfelt and very appropriate Him playing it at the end of concerts means it's appropriate for funerals? How does that follow?
paddie Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 green day songs did leave me thinking about allota stuff but i never got close to crying
midlfecrysis Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 The most emotional I have gotten is when the FHT's show in Phoenix came to an end.I felt this feeling of emptyness, loneliness, like "its all over" and I want more. I almost cried.Plus saying goodbye to the GDC friends I had met. "Maybe we'll meet again someday"
J'net Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Plus saying goodbye to the GDC friends I had met. "Maybe we'll beet again someday"Oh, we will...
Nimrod99 Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I've never gotten emotional over Green Day. However, I did get close when my friend's daughter died 2 days after AI came out and Wake Me Up When September Ends was on there. To put a long story short, her sister and I made a blanket with pictures of her daughter (the one that passed), and we added a few lines from WMUWSE (and we did add credit to the songwriter on it). My friend lost it, I came close to loosing it, and everyone who saw the blanket lost it.
