gdspunkgirl Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 no because i thhink all the other albums helped them make this one in some sort of way...they didnt just come out and write it...plus they wouldnt have that HUGE punk fan base llike they do now
captain peroxide Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 There's no way they would be the same. For a start, AI as we know it couldn't even be released as their first album. They wouldn't have the money or the fanbase to give it the massive impact it's gotten. And the only reason it's done so well is because Green Day has a history and the money from huge successes like Dookie and nimrod to make an album like AI.AI was the first GD album I ever heard. And then I went back and bought every single one of their previous albums. And now I can honestly say that I find 1039/Smooth and Kerplunk superior to AI in almost every way.
billie7joe Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 no because i thhink all the other albums helped them make this one in some sort of way...they didnt just come out and write it...That is exactly what i was going to say. They have grown up both as individuals and as a band, and AI is a direct result of that. There's no way they could've made an album like this if it was their first.
crazychic Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 if they hadn`t done all their other albums they wud nver of thought of AI. their other albums were stepping stones to AI and any more after AI.
l_l punx Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 i think allllllllll their old albums helped their music to improve and american idiot made fans more interrested in buying their older albums
redundantle Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 I don't think they would be where they are presently if American Idiot was their first album, because they needed that previous fan base to go buy the CD, and recommend it to other people, therefore building their current fan base. For example, if it weren't for an old fan, I wouldn't even know who Green Day... My friend's dad was an old Green Day fan, and got her into it... And myself at the same time... So, it takes the old fans to make the new ones.
Totally obsessed Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 They'd still be really successful with the album, but they wouldn't have as many fans, and I don't think they'd have the same respect sorta thing... fuck I can't explain it like, even rock fans that don't like their music still have respect for them as a talented group... yeah, they wouldn't necessarily have that
BlindedByTheSilence Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 no. just no. i mean, yeah i like AI, hell, i loved it but it wouldn't be nearly the same without they're previous albums
LetterBomb) Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 This question hurts my brainHmmI really dont think they would be where they are todayIt just wouldnt be the same ya knowlike all this experience they have with doin shows & interveiws and all that It just wouldnt be the same ...i dont thinkAHAHAHAi dunno
xxx Sarah xxx Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 NOThere's too many people who think it actually is. So sad
St_Jimmy815 Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 I dont think they would have made it. AI was such a political album and back in the time of Dookie there was nothing politcal to complain about. Also Dookie was a major album without it we would not have had longview or she or any other GD foundation songs!!! i dont think they would have made it !!!Nothing political to complain about!?There's ALWAYS something political to complain about! And, what, do you think American Idiot was the first political album in years or something? There was political music back then, too!As long as there are politics, there will be political things to complain about, and there will be political music. I mean, hey, I hate Bush, too, but it's not like the world was a happy-go-lucky place before he was president.
Russian paranoid Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 They'd have different fans. They'd still have fans, but not as many. A lot of people claim to be fans when in reality only know of that one CD.yeah... u r absolutely right i think...
RevolutionRegained Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 they wouldnt have made AI without all there past experiences.. so this question makes no sense.but if for some reason they did...they wouldnt be popular at all.. people would say its a crap knockoff of the who's 'rock opera'
snaredrummer9 Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 not today in the era of 2005-2006 but back "in the ol' days"...
*Megan* Posted March 11, 2007 Posted March 11, 2007 They wouldn't have the same reputation, and they wouldn't have the thousands of fans who have been hooked since Dookie. American Idiot is a great album without the bands past influences, but Green Day are only a great band because of the earlier albums too. Maybe when AI first came out a simialr explosion would occur, but with no second album after 2 years, people would loose interest, unlike now where people are still egar for a follow up.
Compulsive Habits Posted March 23, 2007 Posted March 23, 2007 Nope, not at all. Some people prefer the old stuff over AI, and if the old stuff wasn't there then those people probably wouldn't like Green Day at all.
**nobodylikesyou** Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 I think they would still be huge. American Idiot is a masterpiece.
Angel_Face Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 hmm, i think they would have a smaller fan base. pretty much everyone hates teenies and so do i. i think they would be "so 2 years ago" if it was their first album. mcr are the new in thing now that all the teenies are into, but when the black parade hype dies down and another band comes out watch everyone jump off the bandwagon. im glad its not their first, look at all the great music we wouldve missed out on
CarnageXB Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 umm probably not cause back then there weren't so many teenies no offence to the teenies
Alex Ash Posted March 24, 2007 Posted March 24, 2007 well a lot of people seem to think that ai is their one and only album so i doubt it would make a difference, a lot of the new fans don't seem to give a shit about their older stuff neither does the media.FUCK the media FUCK mtv FUCK all the teenies I wouldn't have as much respect for them if that was there first but I can't say what is unknown :/umm probably not cause back then there weren't so many teenies no offence to the teeniesNO OFFENCE WTF?! offened those little bastards NO one likes them so I've said it once I'll say it againFUCK all the teenies
