Dead and Bloated Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Next to the songs on American Idiot, Minority is one of my least favorite Green Day songs. It was a little too catchy, and then it just got annoying.
owain Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 to save yourself the panic of GD not bieng punk. dont consider them punk.
whiteriot Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 hm...who cares about it being punk or not? it's a great album, it's great music... that's more important than if it's punk or not
futureidiot Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 to me warning is a gem! i love all there albums but i really dont like it when critics shit on warning saying it was the crapiest album every just becasue its different. i wouldent be able to say what album is there crapest because i love them all. i have a 20 disk cd holder so i have all 10 of there cds in it. if you ask me Shennanigans was probably my least played cd, but its still pretty great seeing oh its just b-sides. to me every song on that album was super amazing. from the very beginning warning to the bitter end macys day perade. you cant say castaway wasent good or misery, fashion victom, deadbeat holiday, hold on and jackass. i mean thats just cruel and for the hole "it wasent punk enough shit" i think Green day putting out warning (the album itself) was punk enough. when they put out good riddance(time of your life) they we're scard what people would think of it, but i think with the success of good riddance and with making "warning" they just dont give a shit anymore and they feel free to break out of the punk barrier and look what came of it... e.i american idoit. ps:just because there is some acoustic guitar doesent mean its not punk and just because there sales werent high with "warning" doesent mean it was a shitty album. on a final note i like what mike dirnt said "we're like sex, when we're good we're great and when we're bad well we're still pretty good." enough said?
owain Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Best Green Day album ever i wouldnt go that far, it is very good though
Peter. Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 i wouldnt go that far, it is very good though IMO it is...well, it is very hard to choose since they're all so different
*withoutadoubt* Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I've been thinking about this one. I popped the album in my cd player and listened to it twice. I love Warning-it's one of my favorites. Yes, its different, but that's what makes it so great. I have such a hard time expressing myself, whatever i'm trying to say usually comes out wrong, but, here goes. I love that they try new things...it makes their music more exciting. Each album is like opening a present and not knowing what you're going to get. The first time I heard Misery, I thought, wtf is this. But, now I love that song. Fashion Victim and Castaway- the "gunk, gunk, gunk" of the guitar just makes me...well nevermind. Church on Sunday- I can relate-my mascara bled many a time. And, of course the songs you quoted are all awesome. Blood, Sex, and, Booze- Hmmmm. And, Waiting might be my favorite song, its so hard to choose, though. No one's songwriting has ever affected me in the way that Billie Joe's has. It makes me feel so many emotions and really think about things. And Warning is no exception.
Melly. Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 i masturbate to it all the time you know . . . . hahaha .. see that is punk! moving on i think warning is a great album , one of my favourite songs is from that album - castaway - and as relic said that album like the way it is , thats punk . It was the fact that, that album wasn't punk, that made it such a good album. ^ what freddy said
Amanda Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I like the album, but I don't like the song itself too much.
extraordinary-gal Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 well i lyk warning its green day isn't it ? its actully one of my favourite albums
justcause Posted January 10, 2006 Author Posted January 10, 2006 to me warning is a gem! i love all there albums but i really dont like it when critics shit on warning saying it was the crapiest album every just becasue its different. i wouldent be able to say what album is there crapest because i love them all. i have a 20 disk cd holder so i have all 10 of there cds in it. if you ask me Shennanigans was probably my least played cd, but its still pretty great seeing oh its just b-sides. to me every song on that album was super amazing. from the very beginning warning to the bitter end macys day perade. you cant say castaway wasent good or misery, fashion victom, deadbeat holiday, hold on and jackass. i mean thats just cruel and for the hole "it wasent punk enough shit" i think Green day putting out warning (the album itself) was punk enough. when they put out good riddance(time of your life) they we're scard what people would think of it, but i think with the success of good riddance and with making "warning" they just dont give a shit anymore and they feel free to break out of the punk barrier and look what came of it... e.i american idoit. ps:just because there is some acoustic guitar doesent mean its not punk and just because there sales werent high with "warning" doesent mean it was a shitty album. on a final note i like what mike dirnt said "we're like sex, when we're good we're great and when we're bad well we're still pretty good." enough said? Green DAy could never produce a shitty album - they have too much integrity, and they're too invested in what they do for that. What I was hoping to do with this thread was to get people to sit down and think about which songs they like and why - and in the course of 'defending' this album, that's what they've done. I think it's been really interesting to hear people's views, and what the album means to them. I wanted us to talk more about Green DAy's music, because I respect them more than any other band I've ever known, I love them, and their music is really important to me. Billie Joe has said how he looks forward to the day when people sit down and geek out over when they made their various musical transitions - I said that I thought 'Warning' is where they made the transition that ultimately led to AI,but no-one has commented on this - everyone got hung up on the punk thing , which I suppose is my own fault for putting it in the topic title! Anyway - what Mike said - and Mike is always right!
dookiehead Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Everyone thinks Warning the album is shit just because Warning the song is. it's annoying when people think of an entire album just as the lead-off single.
Guest Immortality Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 There isn't a song on that album I dislike, so it probably is my favorite.
jesus the rage guy Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 There isn't a song on that album I dislike, so it probably is my favorite. is the second of my favorite albums i love all the songs misery reminds me of the shit of the life, and all the songs reminds me of american idiot... the third in my top maybe is nimrod or american idiot, i cant chosse now...
Charlie Jackpot Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I prefer Warning to all of their previous albums in a lot of ways. I love how they play with different styles, and move away from what we were used to hearing. If they produced more of the same stuff for every album, we'd soon be sick of them.
Another*Lost*Highway Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Warning is my favorite album by them. I don't think you can criticize it for not being punk, because it's not like it's pop or somehting. Warning stands in a category of it's own and deserves more credit than it gets for all the expiremental stuff on it.
Dead and Bloated Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Warning is actually one of my favorite Green Day songs. I can understand why some of you don't like it. What's more irritating? The chorus, the main riff, or the verse?

Guest n1i0m3r9od Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Warning the song ? Or warning the Album ? (Never mind, I just read the first post. heh. ) The song is great. And I love the album, alot of my favorite songs from them are on Warning.
rudiecantfail Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Warning is actually one of my favorite Green Day songs. I can understand why some of you don't like it. What's more irritating? The chorus, the main riff, or the verse? Considering it's the same three chords over and over again, that's what they might be talking about. But that's most Green Day songs...probably just the progression and how it sounds.
Holden Caulfield Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 i like that album. you can't have all loud guitars and stuff constantly. sometimes you just need to sit back and take a break. i think of warning as green day's break and i love it.
Cruella2711 Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Haven't got time right now to consider the scope of the original question, having just posted in the Insomniac thread, (might come back to this later) but can I just say to Justcause - I love your threads, they're thought-provoking, well-written and about the music. Woohoo!
