broken_dreams Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 I had a pretty rough start to the year. I had a bit of a broken heart and I had to go through a lot of stress with work. The company I worked for went bust and we had 3 months of hell, not knowing if our jobs were safe, if we'd even get paid blah blah. All the time I was going through this I kept playing Good Riddance - the lyrics: "Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road. Time grabs you by the wrist directs you were to go. So make the best of this test and don't ask why" etc etc really made me sit back, take a deep breath and stop freaking out for a bit. It's amazing how much just a couple of lines in a song can help. Then I saw Green Day live for the first time this year. Boiling hot day in Milton Keynes. That song came on and because of how much it meant to me, I actually came out ion goosebumps .. goosebumps in that heat lol!
greenday_worshipper Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Green Day have got me into music again. I was never a music person and my sister brought home American Idiot and she said it was a great album. Usually when she brought home albums i couldnt be stuffed listening to them because there were too many songs to sit down and listen to but there was something about american idiot...i just had to listen to it and i was totally blown away. i found out that they had other albums and i was just as blown away as i was with AI. They also influenced my views on politics. before AI came out i hated everything about politics. when AI came out it made me understand more about politics and the war and lets just say it made me hate politics even more. Green Day have also made me a stronger person. before i got into them i was shy and usually let people walk all over me...i'll even admit that i was too scared to come and write sumthing on this board because i was scared what people would say about my comments. now im a stronger person, im much louder and i have more confidence in myself. Green Day have also influenced me to play guitar, dont be ashamed about who i am and dont give a shit what people think of me....sorry im pouring out my heart here! I always think of the "what if's"...what if my sis never bought american idiot and i never listened to them...what person would i be now. green day have really turned me into a better, happier, more confident person.
409InYouCoffeemaker Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Green Day made me realize that I'm so sick of hearing Rap and Hip Hop on the radios...and they made me want to learn guitar after my uncle died, who was an amazing guitar player...so I guess in a way they help me cope with his death.
MiMi Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Influenced me into playing bass. Listening to other good bands Sense of humor (Especially Tre's randomness & pervertedness!) Honesty
jesus the rage guy Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 green day help me to find miself...well, this can be sound weird but is truth now i feel better then before green day save me of the fuckin' system
longview timer Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 How has Green Day influenced you for the bad,in terms of rebellion of cource, well Ill contradict myself on this, you cant call it bad when youre simply expressing yorself freely hey I think little bush should think about that, anyways I want to know?
WaitingInBattleScars Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 They brainwashed me into being an Athiest, and my mommy says that's bad.
Megs Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 They haven't really influenced me. In the 6/7 years I'v been listening to them, I haven't exactly done anything differently or changed how I am. I don't think...
Amanda Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 We have a thread called ' How has Green Day influenced you ', this is pretty much the same. http://greendaycommunity.org/Forum/index.p...topic=17648&hl=
Do.or.Die Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Well, they haven't made me kill anyone yet... ...Anyway, I don't think they have influenced me for the bad at all.
broken_dreams Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I like to think I have a mind of my own and don't say "how high?" because someone told me to jump. So I'll say they haven't at all. I'm responsible for my own actions.
whatserxxname Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Green Day has deffinently influenced me... but not for the bad, only for the good!
basketcase72492 Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 yeah, they haven't really influenced me for the bad either.
Jillie Boe. Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 i think they've influenced me more in the earlier albums, i am influenced by ai though, but bobd just upsets me.
Extraordinary_Girl Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 They haven't influenced me to be bad. Nor me. They have influenced me but not to that point and I just don't think I needed a band to express myself to begin with. And to longview timer, how many threads have you made so far? Maybe, you should take a break for now.
~RebelKitten~ Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Green Day has helped me be more independant. They and their music have taught me that it's ok to have my own beliefs and opinions outside of my parent's beliefs and opinions. (Mum helps with that too. ) It's ok for me to be me because no human has a right to make me conform to their image or diss me for having my own. While it's taught me more independance, it's also taught me that there are times I should listen to the wisdom of older people and that not every older individual is a wise person. (I basically knew that though. They just reinforced the idea.)
Gail. Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 When i get really angry and stuff i would put a CD on and sing and that would carme me down a lot and lirnt dont care about any thing any 1 els says 2 put u down ( i some times get played out likeing green day and i get really pissed about it 2) so i try not 2 lissen 2 the idiots!
One Lite 1 Mind Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Well, I really doubt they infulenced me for the bad, but they have definitely influenced me for the good. I have been seeing a psychologist for a year, and whenever I would feel down, pissed off, or like I need to cut, I threw on a Green Day song. Without Green Day, I would probably be dead right now... because suicide has crossed my mind more times then I can count. Good Riddance helped me the most, and we sang it for graduation. Anyway, they also showed me, especially Billie Joe on this one, how to write... I wanted to give up writing so many times, but after reading alot of his lyrics deeply, it showed me to keep on going because as I get older, it will get better. This band, I can relate to their lyrics more so then any other band that is really out there right now. They also showed me to believe in myself because I never use to, and I still don't. But, I do a little bit more now. Also, I got a guitar this year for Christmas, and I am enjoying every second of it. I wanted one last year, but I didn't think I could do it. But I listened to some more of Green Day, and I just said the hell with it. Yes, it was all good influences.
starbucksfreak Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 uuh...i'd have to say good and bad good because their music showed me to be myself and not give a shit....but in a way its bad cuz im normally a bad person and i never used to show it...now i am and my parents are getting REALLY mad at me...even for no reasson (i cant explain it right...but i hope u get the picture )
.Emma. Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 They've helped me realise there's nothing wrong with being a bit of a loser and an outcast and not to care what others think of me, wooo!
mRs.BjA17 Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Green Day has influenced me in many ways. They've taught me to be more independent and to not care what anyone else thinks. They sort of made me more of a rebel, but not in a bad way. They've helped me sort of (okay this will sound cheesy) find myself. Like who I am and they've helped me find who I want to become. And who could forget that they've helped me meet a ton of great people *cough* you guys *cough* Also, whenever I'm depressed or have had a shitty day or something like that, I just listen to Green Day and I feel better. If I hear a Green Day song, I just get happy. They just take me away from how horrible somthing might be. They've also made me more political, in a sense, because I really didn't know that much about the war in Iraq and they opened my eyes to how bad George Bush is. And last, but not least, they inspired me to be a musician. I've always loved singing, but they just make my passion for music stronger. They inspired me to write songs and play the drums and now, I want to learn to play the guitar! They've definately impated my life in a major way and I just hope they can inspire and influence more people.
