Guest cjmancol Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 yup!!! and a LOT!!!the good thing of course!!!i'd say influencing me to be a punk is a GOOD thing...etc etc....
Agija Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 Green Day was the first band that changed my life. It became better.
04rebhop Posted June 11, 2008 Posted June 11, 2008 I got into music. I didn't like any music at all before Green Day. I took up the guitar because of Green Day and GCSE music.
KeRpLuNkXxX Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I don't know...they simply make me feel better, ALWAYS. It's like if listening to them gave me strengh for everything... Green Day gave me the guts to be who I wanted to be, to sya "hell yeah, I am simply me! and fuck everyone who doesn't like it" Whenever i listen to them I smile, like if everything was completly right. I got my identity, I got my personality, my opinios, my guts to speak my mind whenever I want to. I went from listening to really CRAP music to listening to all these great bands I love (specially Green Day! lol). They got me interested in guitars and in punk music. I honestly think that people always need something to lean on, and in my case MUSIC and GREEN DAY are the things which make me feel good everytime.
Luli Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Everyone here's going to say that Green Day made them good. Why being here if not?
GreenDaymaniac2000 Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 how has GD helped you through your life? When I was battling depression before I got meds the only thing that would bring my mood up was singing along to and blasting outloud their music and when things go wrong I know its gonna be alright because I know their music will help me through. cheezy I know, but music can do alot!! Same i had depreesion and it helped me alot too... i added a post like this and it got deleted!
Teenage Kicks! Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Some good some bad.I know I learned how to cuss after I started listening to them. My mom doesn't like that...I was such a goody goody two shoes. (Did I say that right?)But, they taught me alot of stuff. From following my own opinions no matter what. To tellling someone to fuck off.I love them dudes.
midlfecrysis Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 There may already be a thread of this buried somewhere, but "Oh well, too bad, who cares its alright.."Well I only came to know of the band Green Day 4 short years ago, much by accident. I was listening to my son's A.I. cd he had left in my car, and it was love at first listen, and well, as some of you may know, lust at first sight of the infamous Billie Joe Armstrong. It's hard to understand and explain why their music was so captivating for me, as I'm a 46 year old who grew up on classic rock of the likes of The Stones,The Eagles,Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Elton John and BillyJoel ( not to be confused with Billie Joe,not by a long shot) just to name a few.Well, I made up for lost time in a big way.The first site I went researching was GDA, thanks Andres'. I quickly read all the magazine archives, forum archives, picture threads, etc...I wanted to know everything about this band and their music. Not long after that I joined the Idiot Club thinking I would maybe get some inside personal information from the band or something. That didn't happen, but I do enjoy the forum. That was the first change GD made in my life. I had never been on any forum in my life, and really was pretty computer illiterate(I still can't spell) So my computer skills have greatly increased. I remember the first time on the forum it took me like forever to figure out how to do an ava or sig. Netty helped this oldie but noobie alot.My current sig is still probably innapropriate. It is more like a collage. Oh well too bad, I like it. The first CD I bought was International Superhits,to get a taste of GD's past music. Soon after that I purchased several of their other cd's and of course BIAB when it came out. I think for the next year all I listened to was Green Day, and looked for excuses to run errands or drive the kids places just to crank the music and sing along. Never in all my years had I been so taken by a band at this level. I kind of drove my kids crazy there for a while, and even managed to turn my oldest away from the band entirely.I remember the first time I saw them on the Tonight Show with David Letterman. I was mesmorized by Billie. He simply looked and sounded incredible. His jet black hair, clean lined eye liner, and those eyes And that drummer I thought. "That guy is crazy". Little did I know just how crazy. I continued to watch the guys at every opportunity on the Fuse or where ever they appeared.Anyway, the story goes on and on like so many your own. How have they changed my life? Simple. I'm horney as hell! Okay just kidding. I wanted to know if I had your attention. First and foremost they have invigerated my life, adding a spark and youthfullness that had kind of gone out. I began dressing a bit more youthful and sexier. No longer shopping stictly at "Talbots" or "Fresh Produce"- which screams "your middle aged and boring!" I wear my pants down below my waist instead of up around my midsection the music made me feel alive and young again. I can honestly say that GD and Billie Joe have played a role in sparking up my marraige. That is enough information on that topic. As far as the forums go, My God, I have met such lovely people because of this band. And the friendships are real! They have opened up a whole new world for me, and its liberating. Even the people I have conflict with on the threads have taught me so much and broadened my outlook on life. I truely have become a more accepting and tolerant person, willing to listen and even accept some concepts that I otherwise would have shut the door on. What a great thing that through this band, people from all walks of life, and parts of the world can be brought together with a common interest. The love of the Band Green Day. And then, how can I leave out the experience at the Brick House in Phoenix. Who in there wildest dreams would have placed me, and my hubby,Mr extreme conservative, at that scene. I even have him wearing a Tubby T-shirt now The whole episode was really out of character for both of us. We have never taken a little trip, just the two of us, in all our 22 years of marraige, what with being busy with kids and all. Family trips were planned a year in advance, making sure everything was in order. But this trip to Arizona, plans made only two days ahead of time, proved to be the most spontanesous and rewarding experience of my life. I felt like a rebel almost. And you know who I have to thank for that, besides God of course. My dear friend Beth, who was persistant and relentless in her encouragement that I and others go, saying "you won't regret it".And finally, Green Day and Billie Joe have helped me to maintain my sobriety. It hasn't always been perfect, nothing is, but through their music and persona, I am able to set my mind on better things than the boddle And with this prayer being answered of seeing Billie Joe, up close,I think I'm on the right track to recovery. There are worse addictions than him BABY!!!!On a final note, can you believe I have never seen the boys as Green Day in concert yet. I can't wait for that day, and I think it is right around the corner folks. That's my prediction anyway.God Bless Billie Joe, Mike,Tre' and their families forever and always. Love, Love, LoveXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX
Yussef Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Green Day was the first band I really started listening to and they introduced me to many other bands (obviously not personally). And yeah I found out about them by overhearing these two girls' conversation. I found the name of the band interesting so when I went home, I finally put my Limewire to use and now my music taste is better than ever. Obviously.
Guest billy024 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 i grew up with green day as a small child.my sister was always a huge fan, and i'd always thought she'd be the one to join the forum. she and i share our love of green day.my parents took my sister to a whole bunch of green day concerts, and didn't realize till i was about 7 that i was a huge fan.so they took to see them during Warning, and it was amazing.but as soon as american idiot came out, i kinda departed from green day, only to have a very near and dear girlfriend tell me about how much she loved green day, and at first it seemed like nothing but ate away at me. eventually she told me about gda, and i began to check up everyday to hear any sort of news.i eventually joined the forum, something the girlfriend never did, but i felt closer to the band.and it's definately taught me about another genre of music.i really can't say billie joe inspiried me to play guitar, but i was playing many instruments early on in life.and my dad gave me a guitar and i just picked it up started to play because of him.the guitar inspiriation was probably pink floyd or the who, never green day.
Hermione Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 ^^^Mary, I enjoyed reading your post. Those boys really are amazing and I'm so glad they can have such a positive impact on someone's life. I've never seen them live either, and I'm sure in the future when we each get to it'll be well worth the wait For me they are just the best band of all time, nothing could ever top them. They make me smile and brighten up my day, I lurve 'em
chickin'pickin' Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Green Day influenced me into being a loser. ......and a very good one at that.
iLozza! Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 They influenced me to swear more, play guitar and listening to them really brought out this"I don't fucking care alright!!!!" attitude that my parents HATE.Hah.
jose armstrong Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 it influenced me to tell my dad to fuck off at the age of 13 (and I don't regret it) and to play the guitar since i was little.
sarita Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 On a final note, can you believe I have never seen the boys as Green Day in concert yet. Love, Love, LoveXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXPhoenix was also the first and only time I have seen them in concert, although I've been a fan since I was in college (10, 12 years ago? ). And that trip was also planned like 3 days before, LOL. Looking forward to seeing them live as Green Day one day soon. They've helped me through some pretty difficult times in my life, where pretty much the only thing that helped was cranking their music all the way up (in the car, on the iPod, in my room...) driving my family insane!
one8two Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 i decided to play the guitar after seeing them live.and they really got me into music i guess.
johnnydbja Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Green Day changed me. Some of the most imporatant days of my life have involved green day in some sort of way. 3 years ago, I met my two bestest friends at a green day show, these two chicks changed my life.... seriously. Whenever I'm in a shitty mood I just put these guys on and every problem I have, sort of just goes away (for that moment). They've helped me get though a lot of shitty times, and I've had a lottttt of shitty times recnetly.I see so many people who care about everything, and just stress about what they look like, or what people think of them. I just look at them an laugh, because I used to be that way, too. Now, I could give two shits to what people say or do, and I know listening to Green Day did that for me. "Fuck the dog, the dogs dead" hahaha. They are my little knights in shining armor. I'm soooo lame. xD
Hermione Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 ^That's awesome, I don't think it's lame (although what would I know ). I know exactly what you mean, Green Day's approach to life and music is inspiring, there's no one better. They are my little knights in shining armor. Aww! That phrase is perfection
johnnydbja Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 ^That's awesome, I don't think it's lame (although what would I know ). I know exactly what you mean, Green Day's approach to life and music is inspiring, there's no one better. Aww! That phrase is perfection Thanks for not thinking I'm lame!!! And also, they aren pretty rad, aren't they? -sigggh- Ohh ohh! And 2 best days ever = the two green day/foxboro shows I went to, for one; I went on stage both times, two; I met some amazing people, and 3; I touccheeeddd them allllllllllllll billie joe err.. The Rev... hahaa.... in very inaproperiate ways. yay!
Hermione Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Touching that man is never inappropriate That's gotta be a good influence!
gogreen1976 Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 I can honestly say that GD and Billie Joe have played a role in sparking up my marraige. That is enough information on that topic.Hahahah! That made me smile. I loved your whole post, though. Ok, let's see... I don't even know where to begin. I mean, there's a lot of bands and musicians who have contributed to who I am, Green Day definitely being one of them. They are one of the most long standing musical infatuations I have had, along with Faith No More/Mr. Bungle, Tori Amos, They Might Be Giants, The Ramones, and Devo. Actually, now that I write out that list, I realize GD is the youngest of all of them, as I started listening to them at 17, but the rest began between the ages of 8 and 14. All of these groups have things in common, despite being spread across the musical spectrum genre-wise, and that's the attitude of being individuals, not caring what anyone thinks of you, not letting anyone fuck you over, and just plain being yourself no matter what. That's been my mantra for life, pretty much... since high school, anyway. I think, in part, listening to this music keeps me young (not immature, mind you - just young.) I mean, I'm 32, but I get carded for cigarettes and beer all the time, and people always seem shocked that I'm not in my early 20's. This will come in handy when I'm 50 and 60 years old, hahaha...GD and the rest have all forged my love of music and being open minded about different genres. I have listened to and become a rabid fan of many punk, jazz, avant garde, folk, hip hop, country, metal, and experimental bands and performers over the years, and I love that. This is one of the reasons why when everyone else was giving GD shit for being experimental with Warning, that I was like "This is my favorite album since Kerplunk!!" Anyway, I have no doubts that Green Day has shaped many of my outlooks over the years, but honestly, with each album, upon first listen, I am always just struck by how closely the lyrics tend to reflect things in my life. Who the hell gave BJ access to my goddamned diary, is what i wanna know! Seriously, though... I feel like I grew up right along with them, and was having a lot of similar experiences and feelings along the way. Just before American Idiot, I was looking around at the world, angry and confused, wondering why the hell there was no protest music really coming out, and then along comes AI. Thanks guys, you never disappoint me!A couple days ago, I was doing dishes and GD's cover of Working Class Hero came on and made me cry. I identified with it when I heard John Lennon's version, but damn. So much truth, it made me want to explode. Anyway, enough, enough. You get the idea. I'm a GD fan for life, fo sho.
Sherri Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 I began listening to them at the end of 7th grade when a boy I was crushing on had a quote from JOS in his MSN name, "Nobody's perfect and I stand accused for lack of a better word and that's my best excuse." I remember that much clearly. From then on I wanted to know more and more about them because that line just blew me away. Along the way I learned not to care what other people think of me and of some really good bands that they had played with. From there it just grew, I found other bands and wanted to explore this new thing I had found. I think it was one of the best things that could have possibly happened to me, so definitely a positive influence on my life. I've learned to be open minded and so much more I can't even list. I still credit them, three years later, as being my roots to music.
Drink Drank Punk Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 Stories of Billie Joe selling weed for two dollars a joint made me want to do the same.
fuck_you Posted June 20, 2008 Posted June 20, 2008 since i listen green day i don't care 4 my look or 4 personality. now people tell me "your t-shirt sucks" and now i answer " fuck you"
