Freyja Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 yeah, because of them i actually started to listening to good music and i've gotten a lot better in english aaaaaand entertained me on my twice-a-day, hourlong busrides, that otherwise would have been very boring
likeahandgrenade Posted May 6, 2007 Posted May 6, 2007 you have to be in the right mood for gd to really influence you... if you're having a really great day and aren't mad at anyone or annoyed with anything, a lot of gd's stuff can be hard to relate to... but sometime's their songs are so perfect...once when i was mad at someone i listened to when i come around... and by then i'd moved on to being kinda annoyed and had kind of an 'i dont care anymore' attitude " so go do what you'd like/ make sure you do it right/ you may find out/that your self-doubt/ means nothing was ever there/ you can't go forcing something if it's/ just not right" and that made me realize that i may have over-reacted, because i knew that the guy she'd been trying to take from me, really didn't care about her. or even right now- i'm still really sad/hurt/disappointed/annoyed/mad/cheated about the way the dance company tryouts turned out... so it was nice to just have songs to relate to...even if they weren't necessarily about the same thing:" just give me one more kiss goodnight/ and everything will be alright/ tell me that i won't feel a thing..."- i wished that i could go back to how it is when you first wake up and don't remember anything yet" in the streets/of shame/ when you've lost your dreams in the rain/ there's no sign/ of hope/ the stems and seeds are the last of the dope/ there's no glow/of light..." that's how i felt..."when i throw away my past mistakes and/ contemplate my future/that's when i say/ what the hey"moving on.
Kingy07 Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Green Day inspired me to play guitar.. and although i only started with power chords on songs like stuck with me i have now moved onto other artists and harder songs. so i think Green Days a huge musical inspiration... showing anyone can be brilliant..
Alejandra. Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Green day influenced me to listen to more bands...and to play more instruments...But I've had lower grades since I started liking them too....hahaha
Darkshine Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Green Day has influenced me to play guitar. And to be honest it was the first band I like, cause I didn't listen to any music before. Green Day made me to love punk-rock music, thanks a lot! almost the same)) GD rocks))now i know what is punk-rock and i like it so much GD taught me to be myself, not to be shy)) they have broken my borin life))
milo Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 I used to pretend i liked all the music my freinds liked and sing along but i dont do that any more i like the music i like and they have made me not so shy!
midlfecrysis Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Its hard to explain just how much I've come to love and admire Green Day ever since I listened to my son's A.I. cd he left in my car. Something came over me that's hard to describe. In all my years, and there are alot of them, no band has consumed my life like Green Day. More specifically Billie Joe I've never ever thought of joining a forum before this. But at my age, not alot of my friends have the same appreciation for this band. Green Day have brought back some youth and spark to my life. I find Billie (well, all the guys, but especially BJ) extremely talented, humble, generous, funny, devoted, driven, dedicated, SEXY, cute, irresistable etc....well, you get the picture. My kids,(ages 15,12 and 9) as well as my husband, think I'm a bit obssessed. I guess I am. But coming from a recovering alcoholic, there are worse things I could be doing. God Bless Green Day forever...XOXOXOXO
asknomore Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 In a good way, really. they learned me to:-stand open for different people, like homo- or bisexual people. I'm not saying I used to find those people weird, but I wouldn't talk about it. Now I'm really open for it, I think people should be who they want to be. This is mostly because of the way the guys ...uhm... embrace their sexuality and Billie Joe being bi.-love this thing called music. I listened to music before, but Green Day showed me what power it has, to join so much people into one thing, an example is just this forum.-they learned me, I think, what punk is all about. It's not about walking around town, looking mad at everybody and saying 'This world sucks, so do you, I don't care' (I use this metaphore-thingy always) No, it should be running around with a squirtgun spraying everyone wet, having an opinion for which you are not afraid to stand out for.-most important thing: to live, in a way that you shouldn't be afraid to be different and have fun. I had a hard time in childhood, being picked on because I didn't wore 'fashion'. Now I almost hate everything that's "in". I WANT to be different, I want to stand out. I want to leave a footprint here, like the guys do. With music, or something else. They thaught me to live outside other people's view, because, without knowing, I was always doing the same thing, because it just was like that. I wanna make something of my life, without being afraid to be different.Wasn't it BJ who said: 'You laugh because I'm different, I laugh because you're the same'?
MrGreenDayUK Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Good: -They've got me into music more and helped me turn into a proper rocker -They've influenced me to be myself and not give a shit about what others think -They've given me some bloody good music and philosophies to live by -They've helped me to relate to other people with similar music tastes -They've helped me to distance myself from those wankers who aren't worth knowing or hanging out with Bad:-They've cost me quite a lot of money -They've caused me to develop something of a fucking potty mouth
GabyTLE Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 as many people would say GreenDay has influence them alot in there music wise, I can also say but they also changed my life and way of thinking. I remember sometime like 3 years ago I started to get into them and I was listening to Time Of Your Life and I relise what the fuck a my doing with my life its going nowhere and I have no where to go. and I was like 14 back then so I decided to pick up my guitar again after 2 years of not playing it and here I am now. my band finaly got our first EP demo out and I'm loving how we work our asses to be known and stuff its great. So If I could say some words to Green Day it would be thank you. well mostly Billie cuz he wrote that song!
St. Guro Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Green Day is the first punk-rock band I ever heard so when I first heard them, it opened up new doors for me and I started listening to other punk bands and that's when i develped my passion for music. so they have influenced me for the better. I don't think they've ever influenced me in a bad way...Same here.
emi_sarb Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 This song sums up what I think of Green Day:I listen to you for hours, I'll listen all dayJust keep hitting me the right waySing your song in the showerCause you got a wayTo say what I can never say right - right onWhen I feel weak you make me feel strongMake me feel strongI won't say your nameBut you know who you areI'll never be the same again now - no wayI just want to sayThank you for playing the way you playYou don't get played on the radioThat's not the game you playWell I don't care anywayI glued your tape in the stereoSo I know every word, every noteAnd every chord is right - right onWhen I feel weak you make me feel strongMake me feel strong feel like nothing's wrongI won't say your nameYou know who you areI'll never be the same again now - no wayI just want to say thank you for playing theWay you playDid you know you're why I goAnd waste my timeAt a rock and roll showYou let me know I'm not aloneYou make me feel strong, make me feel strong,Feel like nothing's wrongI won't say your name, you know who you areI'll never be the same again now - no wayI just want to sayThank you for playing the way you playThank you for playing the way you playThank you for playing the way you playThank You - The Descendents
DeJennsitized Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 well, this sounds wierd, but i don't mind swearing in songs as much as i used to, before listening to Green Day. In fact, I don't mind it at all now, coz I've listened to songs like The Grouch over and over again. Hehe, I used to wince whenever I heard the word 'crap' in a song.
Sunshine2385 Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 It was a true eye opener when I got in to them. There was an actual band that played faster, edgier music. They taught me that it was ok to question authority, you don't always have to follow the rules. You can be different, life is not about fitting in with the crowd. When I'm feeling depressed, I can always find some interview and find a reason to laugh. Their music just makes me forget about situations I'm going through for a couple of minutes of happiness. Even though life sux at the moment, there's always a way out. They, along w/ Amy Lee and the rest of Evanescence, are my biggest inspirations.
everdays Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 They didn't exactly change my points of view- because I'm pretty much in the same boat as them, but I think their music just opened me up to a lot of other really great bands. I appreciate that the most, definitely.
piratepalmer Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 wow, that's exactly my story too, you put it so much better than i could you put it better then I did Amen! It's nice to know I'm in good company you two no band has consumed my life like Green Day. Mary, you totally nailed it. We seem to share more than just a name, sweet
JunkiexHeart Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 ...No.Well, they made me realize how shite they are, compared to every other band.
mbk Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Before Green Day, it seemed that so much of the music that was on the radio was just made to show off the artist's pretensions -- when it was good -- or to be a crass commerical product -- when it was bad. Green Day was something that was just so clear and honest and wasn't trying to impress: it just was exactly what it needed to be. It's rare to come across anything that isn't always putting a spin on itself or trying to sell you on something. I think it restored my faith that things can be good and pure.
