BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 No two performances are identical and no performance is perfect. I'm going to take it for what it's worth, he doesn't have to be 100% pitch-perfect for three hours for me to enjoy a show. He sang the song for the first time at the end of a show and still might have been dealing with aftermath of the flu. I'm willing to cut him some slack.

Being a bit out of breath from the exertion of the show plus it being smaller shows where he isn't doing his full stadium act/shouty voice is about it, pretty normal and nothing to worry about. It must be really difficult for him to sing live, it literally swoops from the highest he can belt notes to the lowest he can sing.

And he seems quite flat. This is coming from someone who has hung to his every word for twelve years but yet location and finances have meant I have never been able to see them live. I'm just worried as to how many more chances there's going to be. To add to this, I'm not disputing that they are back on top form. I could not be happier or more proud of this. I just wanted to confide in my fellow fans. I wouldn't worry about this one specific performance- part of the exercise of playing these new songs in the clubs is the process of working out the kinks and finding a comfortable level. For example, in this performance (the first of the song, perhaps), he is playing guitar while handling the vocals. Tough task given the range needed for the song, never mind a very difficult challenge during one of its first performances. I believe he left the guitar behind and simply sang the next show, most likely since he felt the guitar playing hindered the vocals given the lack of practice. But he looked a little awkward/ empty handed without the guitar at all and it was still less than ideal. When they performed Saturday in Boston he was wearing the guitar, but didn't play a note. Problem solved on both fronts. And he nailed it. He was able to focus on the vocals and they all had the benefit of a few live shows under their belts at that point. No show will every be note-for-note perfect, but don't worry about this early performance of the song- we've seen evidence already that it's an incredible live song, and it may even get better as they have a chance to practice and perform live.

That was a really great reply. Well said!
