Is that all they do - I thought if was like a talk show.

They were just the musical guests tonight, so they weren't interviewed.

The sound for the vocals was low I feel. The sound of the whole thing could have been more full whatever that means in tech lingo but they looked fantastic and played wonderfully!

Guys, I damn near leapt off the couch when he held up the RevRad album art.

I wouldn't overthink it. Lack of sleep is as likely a culprit as any.

Yeah, not overthinking it. It's simply that after the past two weeks of seeing him bounce around and all, it's a bit strange. I do understand if they are a bit tired and the like.

Musical guests don't usually get interviewed (can't wait to see when that will happen). However, there may be some videos on YouTube of them backstage (sometimes that is the case with some of the appearances on fallon, be it the ones interviewed or musical guests).

4) Seemed low energy, as Luke said. However, sucking up or not, good job on complimenting them Jimmy.

This. But it's nice to see them again on a tv show!

I think we've all gotten used to watching concert videos, particularly of Bang Bang, where they can run around and engage the crowd. Here, you could tell they were limited by the constraints of TV, like having to stay in the cameras' lines of sight, being far away from the audience (an audience that wasn't there for them), etc. It wasn't a bad live television performance for a band, no way, but it was meh for Green Day. And while I love Bang Bang and am not as in love with Still Breathing as a lot of people, Bang Bang isn't best in a sanitized environment like this, so maybe Still Breathing would've been better because they couldn't get fully into an active song like Bang Bang like they do in concert. As Leslie Knope may say, "Bang Bang? More like Bored Bored!"

I thought I'd point out that the word "head" was censored out. Ha.

Also, here's a short GIF of the performance:

Agree with @Mar. There was nothing wrong with their performance, they just obviously couldn't move around quite as much because of cameras/limited stage space. They had to perform pretty much for the camera more than anything else, and they did a good job.  I'm so happy to have them back.

Way better performance than yesterday, his vocals on point.

The band looked super bored. Tre killed that solo though. the backing vocals were pretty bad :(

I think they're tired. They've had a busy and exciting day today.

The band kicked ass..  I was real worried that all the vinyl throwing would poke someones eye out.  Frisbees with corners equals ouch.  Willie looked great, Michael looked at Willie through out the performance like he usually does and Tre, well, Tre's sexy.   =)   Peace and Love.

I noticed they censored "head" ,too.

I did too... that's what's coming folks.  Censorship for the word 'head'?  Soon there will be censorship on the internet.  I'm lucky I'm in the age group where I get to watch the world end.

People are complaining, really? Billie sounded was better tonight than he did on Stern yesterday! I thought tonight's performance was amazing!

Just not sure how you can watch AI on Letterman or EJN on Letterman and say that this came anywhere near that level of energy.

*** Waits for Tre to accidently decapitate someone throwing records into the crowd ***

I personally thought they were pretty energetic, well, as much as they could be on a small stage without crowd involvement. Bands that perform on talk shows are normally pretty stoic. But Tre's psycho expressions in the background were no exception haha

There's more space in between the drum kit and the other guys on Letterman. They could move around a little more there, but it's not even drastically different energy wise to me. :ermm: They really seemed totally fine.

Wow. I thought that was a really great performance. The mixing was so clear; you could hear each individual instrument and voice. I also loved Billie's facial expressions, as per usual. They all look and sound fnatastic! I also liked the rest of the episode, gotta love Sarah Paulson.

The energy I missed was not about the space they had to move around. It was more about the feeling while playing. I don't know. Billie was playing straight forward the entire time. So was Mike.

Again, I agree this is not something we should overthink about it and I'm 100% happy for seeing them on TV :)

Billie's voice was great! I'm just not loving Mike/Jason singing what were Billie parts on the studio version... they're too low on parts which are high screams. But that's because of their vocal range right?

Someone please upload a video of the performance for us third world folks. Thank You.
