solongfromthestars Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I got paranoid after reading all this so I emailed Manchester Arena to reassure myself about my Seatwave tickets. I'm sure it won't be like that here but still. Will let you guys know what they say in case anyone else in the UK is irrationally scared now

Will let you guys know what they say in case anyone else in the UK is irrationally scared now They're not enforcing the ID thing at all in the UK as far as i'm aware! The o2 aren't for sure and ticketmaster never stated once in the run up to tickets that ID would be needed for Manchester ( they did for the other two dates). It would be so hard for them to enforce it for manchester with the two entrances. You can only camp/queue at the train station entrance rather than the concrete steps and so if anyone had any issues with ID/Cards etc in the station queue it would most likely mean that campers/people that have queued all day would be delayed getting in and would give anyone that turns up as doors open at the concrete steps a good chance of getting in ahead of everyone that had camped, and i'm pretty sure it would all kick off!
jengd Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 God this sounds awful - the whole ticket things is nuts and not getting any better. I tried for London at presales and didn't get, was waiting for sales to go live on ticket master and still didn't get, spent 40 minutes refreshing, nothing, yet tickets were on their getmein site at twice the price! Is this not profiteering by ticket master? The credit card check is ok but what about those without credit cards, what if it got lost or stolen, my new card has arrived since I bought the tickets, but I am still the legitimate buyer. Surely in this day and age there is a better way than this. Very glad those folk got in I can't imagine how sick you would be to be turned away like that!
BCap Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 While it sucks that people who bought from scalpers couldn't see the show, this is actually a good thing - if the scalpers can't make a profit, then eventually they may become wary of buying tickets for events with stringent requirements such as these club shows. I hate to say it, but if your name isn't on the card, or the names don't match, etc. then you shouldn't be allowed in. It blows, but something has to be done about scalpers. Someone mentioned something about the lottery system being unfair - it is pretty damn fair. If everyone submits their name, and, let's say home address and email address and telephone number, then they can be entered into a drawing for the show of their choice. If they win, they can buy their two (or whatever the limit is) tickets. Instead of constantly refreshing the sale page at 10:00 a.m., people can get on with their lives and not be in such a panic, with everyone trying to buy at the same time. Wouldn't that be nice, to be able to just submit your info a few days or weeks ahead of time, and then come home after work to find a code or whatnot for the ticket purchase in your inbox? Maybe have the code valid for twenty-four or forty-eight hours so you can make final decisions, then the tickets can go to general sales. I would prefer that to having scalpers grab them all up in less than a minute. Also, don't know if y'all saw this, but someone was complaining on GD's Facebook (in a comment to another post, I think) that their tickets were cancelled - they bought two at presale, and two at general sale, for one of the club shows, so they could take their family or something. I sympathize with that person, but, as people pointed out, there was a two-ticket limit. It sucks, but that's how it is.
Paola17 Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I think this will only happen at the shows that specify they're credit card entry. Will call is different, as you can pick up the tickets as soon as the box office is open (or they tell you a certain hour) and then you can line up for as long you want. For the show I'm going to , which is will call, they sent an email saying that the box office will open at 10am for people to begin to pick up tickets. You can stand in line earlier, sure, but you can't pick up your tickets until that hour and even then that still allows you 8.5hrs to pick them up before doors open.
Sfulkers Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I can give you our first hand experience from last night in Columbus. I was actually inside the Newport for 45 minutes at 3pm with two other parties as the Newport staff frantically tried to get the credit card scanners working. They were literally unboxing the scanners 3 hours before the doors were to open. They couldn't get the Ticketmaster network online, so they had 3 different parties come inside to do some testing. We bought seats for the Columbus show from Vivid Seats. We had managed to get tickets to the Detroit sale online during general sales, and were pumped. So we were devastated when they announced the postponed shows. Not knowing if we would ever get a re-schedule for Detroit, we weighed our options and bought 2 tickets from the secondary market. I knew full well that we risked no entry if they truly verified IDs at the entrance. There was chatter in the line outside the Newport starting at noon that IDs would be required, and the "fake/horrible/scalped/second tier" tickets (a little exaggerated, but some Newport employees went extreme) would not be honored. I talked to one of their ticket agents and told her we had a Visa gift card from Ticketmaster. I didn't explain the whole secondary market thing to her, but I asked her if I could come inside and try to scan our card. I wanted to avoid another 3+ hours outside if our tickets didn't work. So I was one of the test cards, along with a girl who had a legit credit card order attached to her name through Ticketmaster. When we got inside, it was very evident the Newport wasn't used to this type of band. A few security guys told me this was the biggest act they'd ever had. At the time, none of our credit cards worked, no matter where they had been purchased. 45 minutes later, they still hadn't figured out the network issues. In the end, they managed to get it figured out before the doors opened. Thank God, because that could have been a disaster at 6pm. But I was able to hear the entire conversation about whether to let people with secondary tickets into the venue. Promowest, the company that owned Newport, didn't want to let those type of tickets in. The lead manager was on the phone with GD management, and the band and management wanted to let everyone in who had a valid ticket, regardless of ID. So that was the final decision, as the venue left it up to the band. I was still scared we wouldn't be allowed in, but as we entered at 6:00, sure enough our names weren't on the list. The ticket scanner people were a little confused, but the manager came over and said, "if their credit card scans and is legit, let them in regardless of ID." So apparently the wishes of GD management and the band held up. And I know there were at least 6-7 other parties near us on the floor that had the same scenario and were let in. So take that for what it's worth, but it appears the position of GD management and the band is that everyone with a valid ticket should be allowed to enter. On the plus side, since I was in Newport for 45 minutes during sound check, I got to see the entire band on stage warming up. They sound checked all of Bang Bang and Rev Radio, which was awesome to hear for the first time. And my ears are still ringing from the show. Absolutely loved it!
bloodymurderbitch Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I'm getting really anxious reading this because I dropped half a paycheck on a ticket for the show in Philly. If I don't get into this show I'm going to be devastated.
Jaymee!! Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 For the Webster show in NYC, even though the lottery was only open to US residents, the Webster Hall Twitter account sent @Justin a DM containing the lotto password, knowing full well that he wasn't a US resident through previous DMs. So I don't think they're going to be strict with the tickets or names on the tickets (ours were purchased by a friend in Australia and gifted to us).
solongfromthestars Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Uh, I'm not sure if Manchester will be OK after all, just got this email back from the arena... "Hi Unfortunately we have been informed that it is strictly the card holder only that is able to attend the concert. If the tickets are in your name and you are the cardholder, you must bring your card that you paid with as ID. I would advise to double check with the booking agent who you purchased your tickets from in case photographic ID is required as this event is going to be very strict with letting people inside as it's in such high demand and as far as we are aware the card holder must be part of the party attending. This announcement was stated within the terms and conditions of sale when the event went on sale." Fuck. Will get onto Seatwave (the reseller site I bought them from) about it in case this is just a standard answer and it's not true, but it doesn't sound like it's actually the arena's decision so it might be the tour company. edit: got a response from Seatwave already "Hello Maria Gloria, Thank you very much for contacting us with this issue. Please be advised that we guarantee that the tickets you have bought are valid and usable for this event. Please be advised that we have official confirmation from the event organiser that there will not be ID checks during this event in particular. Please be advised that these tickets do not need to be personalised to a specific person and can be used by anyone. Please be advised as well that your seller in particular is a trusted seller with whom we have worked for may years and as such there should be no problems with you using these tickets." That has reassured me slightly
Maid Meringue Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 My ultimate fear with the "same credit card must be provided" rule is that I lose my cards like pennies, I average about 3 new cards a year. So if I were to purchase tickets a couple weeks ago and lose my wallet 3 days before the show (today), I'd be fucked. Luckily my bf knows me well enough to take care of important things like this himself but still, that type of uncertainty is what my nightmares are made of.
plasticpictureframe Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 This reminds me of the 2012 Irving Plaza show. My dad surprised me with ordering a ticket--he called me while he was buying it on Live Nation--and we learned after the fact that your name had to be the one on the credit card. I called Irving Plaza and explained the situation. They said they would make a note of it and to come early the day of with the credit card, I didn't need to bring my dad, and it would be fine. I got there six hours early, went to the ticket booth, and they had no idea what I was talking about. Apparently what the person told me on the phone was wrong and my dad needed to be there since his name was on the order, even though I had his credit card. My friend and I had to beg them to allow me get my dad on the phone to talk to them. They allowed it and argued with my dad for ten minutes. In the end I got in but it was obvious that they didn't want to. Souvenir tickets were given out for that show as well. Still have it.
Liam Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 The title is annoying me. Green Day isn't turning away anyone, it's the venues that are.
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 I'm concerned about the no bringing in any kind of bag rule. I mean I'm flying to and from London on the day so no hotel and will have my passport, wallet and phone and car keys at the very minimum with me on my person so couldn't possibly put those things in pockets and stand in the pit expecting to leave the venue with them. I'd need a tiny bag with me. Are they seriously not allowing any form of bag whatsoever?

I've never not brought a bag to a show. I mean I don't have much that I'd need, but it's still enough that I couldn't carry it without a bag.

I've been to a million gigs and have this little gig bag It's tiny and just squeezes in my phone, wallet and keys and when I travel I push extra hard to fit in the passport and I couldn't survive without it! I've been trampled on the ground in a pit once and managed to actually retrieve the bag intact but I can imagine if my stuff was in my pockets I'd have been screwed. No way I would take that chance! But I've never heard of this thing about not bringing bags to a gig before which is troubling.

A little shoulder bag thing that I grip onto tightly when the pit gets rough It's actually really funny because I'm going to a convention next week and they've just said they're going to ban bags for the evening entertainment as well. With the policy in place here too it's like my fandoms are punishing me
