Actually, that is probably one of my least favorite songs whereas OW ranks pretty high. But I have been meaning to properly listen to Warning again so maybe I should keep that structural idea in mind. I wasn't too fond of MDP in the past either, but since I've come to regard Warning as the spiritual ancestor of American Idiot (Warning is thematically very similar to Say Goodbye en Holiday, Misery is a story song in the genre of Homecoming and JoS, Minority is their first real explicit 'political' song), my appreciation for that record has only soared to new heights. RevRad is in that regard very similar to Warning, a new beginning that will always be overshadowed by AI and Dookie, but a record without which Green Day would not have evolved and pushed themselves to explore new terrain.
Spike Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 I still haven't got my head around "I'm like a punk rocker on Labor Day." Any ideas, or just word salad?

It's about an outcast who can't find his place in such a 'mainstream' holiday like Labor Day. I guess it also ties in to Too Dumb To Die and it refers to his father "My daddy akways was on strike/Going off with the teamsters", since the following lines are "How the hell did I work so hard to be born this way/I never learned to read or write so well/But I can play the guitar until it hurts like hell".
Jon Benjamin Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 This song ended up being my second favorite Green Day song of all time under JOS. It's a masterpiece. Everything flows so well and all of the parts are brilliant. I'm really grateful I got to see this live cause I never see my favorite song off of albums live cause I always like the super deep cuts. Forever Now is a whole other monster live, it sounds massive!

So, I thought of it as a way to say that he is conflicted.
Dakke Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 'If this is what you call the good life, I want a better way' is really one of the most poignantly relevant lines Billie has ever written. It never ceases to strike a chord, particularly now.
End Of The World Posted November 12, 2016 Posted November 12, 2016 I was listening to this song just some minutes ago, and now I'm thinking about how fluent FN is. I have always believed that it is a mix between Letterbomb (the first part) and some of the Trilogy (the second). Maybe is not as epic as JOS or Homecoming, but is the most natural amongst GD suites.
St. Jonny Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Love everything about this song minus the punk rocker on labor day line. I accept it though. Amazing song, certainly helps make this album as good as it is. Somewhere Now is just as good too, they both should be done live on the tour.

I couldn't agree more. After I heard it for the first time, I immediately thought it was a mini JOS or a similar song to DRB off of Tre. Love this song so much!

It has something to do with not wearing white after Labor Day...... ......Punk Rocker's wear black so on Labor Day and afterword Punk Rockers would be in fashion for a bit. So Billie is like someone who is in fashion, but he worked so hard to be that way. ??????????????
PursuitOfEpicness Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Still can't wait till I hear this live
St. Jonny Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Meneither! Sounded interesting with the vocal twists he put on it with the Kimmel performance. Kind of like how it is done on the album a bit more but I can't wait. Just a few months now HAHA
Wretched & Divine Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I'm pretty sure this song now sits in my top 10-15 favourite Green Day songs, and I am usually verrrrry slow to say new songs off albums are in my overall faves. It is so so good and I'm quite antsy about April getting here purely so I can experience this live. What a track.
Johnny Higher Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 What do we hear after "But I can play the guitar until it hurts like hell" There is a voice in the background but I can't figured it out. Any clue ?

I don't think it makes more sense. I mean, the first lyric of the song is "My name is Billie and I'm freaking out". I tried listening again and it's hard to make out what the lyric is but I think it's Freaking Out

Clockwise Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 It says "freaking out" in the lyric booklet.

It also says 'vote' instead of 'boot' in the lyrics of Somewhere Now. For some reason the booklet passed some rather sloppy quality control.
