BadgerLALA Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 Apologize for this stupid question, but for non-native English speaker what does is mean with "youngblood"?
Wretched & Divine Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 This was my immediate favourite upon my first listen through and it still is. Such a fun and catchy song, reminds me a lot of Green Day of old. It's going to be bomb live and I'm so excited!
greenalert997x Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 The first time I listend to Youngblood, the verse 'i wanna hold you like gun' I had that feeling when Billie sang 'I wa...' that I'd hear 'i walk a lonely road' it was strange

Typically a young at heart person who has a big idealogical mind... if that makes sense? haha I still think this song is so catchy but I wouldn't want it as a single or anything.
Paola17 Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 Catchy af, but still not a song one would always play. I will admit, I break out into head bangs and all (most of the time contained when in public) when the bridge/break after the "I want to hold you like a gun" portion and try to hold back from screaming the "Are you stranded..." to "fk you I'm from Oakland". If anything I see it as Billie making commentary of their relationship back then and how he may have felt. Then again, what do I know?
moonj17 Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 I love that he still writes songs for Adrienne and I want to love this song, but I don't. It's catchy, it's cute, but it's the one I tend to skip. Maybe it will grow on me (hoping), but there are so many better songs on the album. Just my opinion...
RougeRogue Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 So after listening to it during the KROQ thing I realized that every time, my brain hears "are you broken like I'm broken" it automatically follows it up with "make it a double twist of fate or a melody that..." Woops
inthehallwaynow Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 Not sure if this has been posted but heres footage from the KROQ performance
stories and songs Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I like very specific things in this song: The way he sings Minnesota and Oakland, and the "OW!" Haha.
MaraGreenDay Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 After listening to it live, now I can tell for sure is my second favorite song from RevRad, and now I fell in love with it more I hope they keep it on the setlist for the whole tour.
Ric503 Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 Weeks after the release of RevRad it grew on me but mainly because of their live performance of this song. Now I can't get it out of my head haha
Christian's Inferno! Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Youngblood's Lyric Video has reached 2 million views
letsdanceon Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 This is my favorite from the album. It was awesome that it unexpectedly got added to the set list a few days before the show I was going to and I got it hear it live! I don't really understand the criticism that it's too silly of a love song, who says all songs have to be super serious? Personally that's part of what I like about them as a band, that there's a song for every occasion/mood as a fan. There's no denying the man can write a love song, that's for sure I have to admit that when I first saw the track listing before hearing the album, I hoped this was a cover of the Coasters song
Mykee Mexx Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 I love the melody, but I find the lyrics rather weak. But the beat heals it. Would be a song I would skip - if I would skip a song. But I don´t.
Dakke Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 An interesting note (courtesy ofhttp://www.nme.com/news/music/green-day-cigarettes-and-valentines-lost-album-interview-listen-1862365): Youngblood is actually a rewritten and recorded song, possibly from the 21CB era.

Reading the article gave me the impression that it was probably recorded around the same time as Cigarettes and Valentines or much more likely, American Idiot as they were talking about Cigarettes and Valentines when Billie brought Young Blood up. As soon as I heard Young Blood I said it sounded like a song that had been chopped up and added to, probably originally a song that didn't make American Idiot and was originally written about Whatsername hence the "she said fuck you I'm from Oakland" line and the similarities with She's A Rebel and then Billie edited it slightly with a few lyrics. I'm now completely convinced this is the case. From NME Green Day have spoken out about the fate of material recorded for their ‘lost’ album ‘Cigarettes And Valentines’. Watch our video interview with the band above. The unreleased record was written and recorded in 2003 and was intended to be the proper follow-up to 2000’s ‘Warning’. When the album was nearly finished, the recordings were stolen from the studio and the back instead recorded the seminal ‘American Idiot’. However, rough mixes of the tracks were later recovered and the title track would be recorded and released for live album ‘Awesome As Fuck’. The record was said to be ‘quick-tempoed’ punk in the same vein as their classic albums ‘Kerplunk’ and ‘Insomniac’, and many fans speculated that it was released as ‘Money Money 2020’ by side-project The Network – which frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has repeatedly denied. “It’s pretty much in the vault right now,” Armstrong told NME. “There was the one song, ‘Cigarettes and Valentine’ that we brought out live, I don’t know, we’ll see if any of that stuff ends up seeing the light of day.” Bassist Mike Dirnt said: “There’s always a lot in the vault, but we tend to look forward rather than reaching back. Armstrong added: “There’s one song that was written a long time ago that’s on the new record [‘Revolution Radio‘] called ‘Young Blood’, and that got a facelift and new lyrics and stuff like that.” http://www.nme.com/news/music/green-day-cigarettes-and-valentines-lost-album-interview-listen-1862365
DeJennsitized Posted November 27, 2016 Posted November 27, 2016 When the album came out there were two songs that I wasn't keen on, Outlaws and this one. One has grown on me, the other has not. Youngblood is not the one that has grown on me
That Dude Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I was trying to decide on my favorite lyric video and the cassette tape in this one caught my eye. It's got a "666" on it just like the dog tags in "Still Breathing"! WOW! I think the devil in Bouncing off the Walls is Mike!
Bastard of 1967 Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 On 10/12/2016 at 8:54 AM, MMwhatsername said: In defence of this song, I wanted to say I wouldn't take the lyrics so seriously/literally. The fun thing about Youngblood is the fact that it's (in my opinion) not written from the 44-year-old-Billie's point of view, but from the young, wild, crazy Billie's point of view who fell into hedges I think there's some sarcasm in that song, too. Today's Billie is joking about the Billie from back then, I think that's obvious. I'm absolutely a lyrics person and I love GD songs with deep, meaningful, political lyrics the most. But still this song has won my heart because it's so cute, honest and naive. Makes me feel nostalgic. Ah to be young again Billie insecure, anxious, sarcastic, and "my heart's on my sleeve" honest? Who, him? Never. Youngblood's a product of all that, she keeps him young, she's what he pushed himself through rehab for and came back home to in Still Breathing. Imagine yourself in Adie's shoes when he first sang "Bleeding heart and the soul of Miss Theresa" to her, and that tells you everything you need to know about why she's stuck with him through, well, everything. He's comparing her to the Mother fucking Theresa for Christ's sake. GOD that lyric kills me every time I hear it. Loves: The riff, the chord progressions, the rhythm. Mike and Tre have their A-game out on this one (heck, they've got it out for the whole damn album) but here's one of the highlights where how well those two play together really stands out. Don't love so much: The song gets weak in the bridge ("I wanna hold you like a gun" is almost but not quite throwaway, and that pounding rhythm also takes a rest) Overall: Damn good. I'll allow the weakness in the bridge to get the rest of everything else. Good song. Not "perfect", but *good*.
Billie joe legstrong Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Honestly , best song off the album. chump is my alltime favourite but i love this due to the lyrics. Its exciting man. Especislly the bit were he screams "FUCK YOU IM FROM OAKLAND" XD XD XD XD XD
Green333Day Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 I like this song. I like the melody and I like the lyrics, I still laugh to myself picturing Billie falling in to hedges. And him swearing to God and not even being superstitious. And I like his Minnesota reference.

I like this song for being that kind of "making fun of yourself". It's a fun song and it feels honest to me for this reason that the narrator doesn't take himself so seriously.
Ric503 Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 I didn't like Younglblood when I first listened to it and it was my least favorite from RevRad in the first month then it started to grow on me and after I started to play along with my guitar it has now become my favorite haha how things change...
