No. It's just a song release. I keep trying to remove it from the singles bit on wiki (even added a hidden message NOT to add it, and it keeps coming back

Wikipedia doesn't lie.  It's a single and Somewhere Now is 35 minutes long.

And what is the point in releasing just a song instead of a single? :ermm: I mean, if it's not released to the radio, the audience is really limited. And I think RevRad would have more potential to be played on the radio than Bang Bang, at least the more mainstream stations.

Well it's also true that when the Bang Bang's music video will be out (I WANT IT NOW) the promotion of that song will have a boost, and they probably want to focus the radio attention and not split it.

I waited a couple of days before sharing my thoughts on the song. I wanted to take the time to let the song sink and the first time I heard it I wasn't as enthusiastic as I was with Bang Bang, but I was still very excited though.

I really really like Revolution Radio. I love the energy in the song and I think this song also shows that they did a good job self-producing it. They seem to have made wise decisions in the structure of the song, like not repeating the bridge before the 2nd chorus and keeping the song tight and driven.

I also love the lyrics. It's like a protest but put in a song and he seems to state his demands in the chorus, which will be a wonderful singalong live.
I really can't wait to hear this song live. Actually, I seriously got more excited for the new album with this song.

But I do think Bang Bang was the right choice for the first single. It catches the attention from listeners and Revolution Radio would be a great 2nd single. Even though Revolution Radio is more catchy and more suitable for mainstream radio, I personally think if they released this as the first single a lot of people would probably not even take the effort to look up and check the song out. Bang Bang is like a slap in the face that wakes you up and Revolution Radio is like the message that you get to hear, since you they have your full attention.

The song's grown on me too. Bang Bang was immediate and super exciting but this one took a few listens (not a bad thing). I'm really digging the guitar sound.

I've still not got mine yet  -.-  Then again, you do live about half a day in the future, so hopefully it'll come today.

In the world of Spotify and Apple Music, people aren't restricted in what they can listen to.  There's a virtually infinite collection of on-demand music out there available at no extra cost.  Releasing songs keeps people interested in the album, an increasing problem in an ever-more-distracting world.  There's not the same pressure as if they've released the song formally as a single, and it's not directly competing with Bang Bang.  They can release it as a single at a later date too (if they want).

I actually think it is a single (it has a lyric video, bands don't do that for non-singles), but since there's no clear confirmation yet it's definitely possible that, at least for now, it's just an early-released album track.  There's no reason, however, why they can't play an album track on the radio.  Can it chart as a single if it's played/bought enough?

I would say the solo in the revrad song is not bad/okay .. but they have way better guitar solos imo

They just played Revolution Radio on the radio! And the funny thing is, I think something went wrong because the news report got cut off and they started to play Revolution Radio again.

Love it!

So, I've listened to this song quite a bit now and overall I really, really like it, but not love it. I love Bang Bang and when trying to figure out why exactly I love that song so much more (even though they are both fucking awesome), it basically came down to RevRad being a more chill kind of song that just kind of cruises through and then stops, and then I kind of feel like "that's nice".

I really don't know exactly a good way to describe it but to me it feels like the Last of the American Girls of the new album, where the song is great and all but its just kind of there and it isn't really anything crazy, or memorable (in my opinion) and no where near as deep or powerful as Bang Bang.

Overall though I really do like it, but its not on the same level of greatness as Bang Bang is for me. Still can't wait to hear more, but I am really hoping this is the last song released before the album drops, because I want as much as possible to be fresh all at once.

The prechorus is so out of place and nearly ruins the rhythm and momentum of the song. I love the rest though.

It definitely disturbs the rhythm, but I think that's a good thing, because it really builds up to the chorus.  The 'we are' rest is the perfect entry to the chorus, and it wouldn't work as well without the pre-chorus.

The bass bit reminds me of another GD song but I can't think which one!

Trying to read the news articles in the Revolution Radio video and here's some weird stuff I've picked out so far:

Beefheart adding conga drummers.

Joke band

New Wave

Voodoo spokeman likely to play San Francisco

STAB!  the new EP from the Residents!

RevRad is such classic Green Day. What's not to like? Chorus is catchy as fuck and Billie's vocals are on point.

Say what you will, but Bang Bang was their best charting single, EVER! It was the best choice to release first. Only 4 Green Day songs ever charted #1 out of all their songs. Just saying.

Nah, Oh Love was better. And from what we got so far Revolution Radio would be a better first single choice.

I really really like it. It's just an all round solid Green Day song, and I couldn't really ask for more. It's super catchy and the guitar solo is absolutely amazing. If you listen to it straight after Bang Bang, it sounds like a logical continuation. I don't think it's pushing the boat out in terms of exploring a new sound, but it's just solid. Can't wait to hear it live.

They played it on the radio on Friday here, a few hours after its release. On Spotify it's actually marked as a single, I don't think there's any doubt about it.

Do you guys know if the digital download is free for those who had already pre-ordered the album? I pre-ordered it from the official site but haven't received any mail yet.

Yes, it is free if you purchased a bundle.  I got my email as soon as it hit midnight here.
