Green Day on the cover of Rolling Stone

@crock6000 Glad I'm not alone in feeling that way about the Trilogy tour. Green Day concerts are always such amazing experiences, and while my 2013 show was certainly a good one, it didn't leave me with the best feeling. Something was a little off, and I felt bad for feeling that way, but it did make me cool it with Green Day for a significant amount of time after. My break from them was really needed, though—they've been such a gigantic part of my life for so long, and I think being without them for a while was a good experience for me. I'm not the same person I was four years ago, and they don't seem to be, either. It was just...necessary. I didn't have much to do with them other than checking in on their social media for a solid two years, and then had the amazing opportunity to see them in Cleveland at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. They only performed three songs, but it was abundantly clear that they'd gotten past whatever issues plagued them in the Trilogy tour. They were most definitely themselves again. They were fucking awesome, actually.

My love for 21CB knows no bounds, and I DEFINITELY think Bang Bang and RevRad (especially when listened to together) have that vibe. From what I know of the album so far, it seems like they made the exact album I wanted it to be.

Despite much effort, I didn't manage to get tickets for any shows (curse the ticket gods). Hopefully when the do another U.S. leg the venues will be a little bigger and easier to get into. I'd either be at a Philly or NYC show! :)

I don't know if it depends on location or not, but here in the US it is out.

I want to feel for a girl the way Billie talks about Adrienne. I'm not one for love and romance but that quote about her made me melt.

Aaaww I love how Billie talks about Adrienne  and I'm actually happy that there's a song about her, not gonna lie lol

The song descriptions!! Billie's Adrienne comment is so sweet, really wondering how "fuck you I'm from Oakland" is going to fit into that song

I'm surprised Youngblood is midtempo, the title sounds like a fast song!

I'm sure that took some adjusting for them --- Minnesotans truly are the nicest Americans I have met... Oakland... I'm not so sure :D  They probably did not understand each other's culture at first :P

Ahh yes, must be something like that! Definitely the song I'm most looking forward to hearing.

Also, where does it say that "Fuck you I'm from Oakland" is in that song?  In this RS article? I haven't read it yet because I have a subscription and I'm very impatiently waiting for it to arrive in the mail.

Well this song is called Youngblood, and it's hardly fast and punky!

Some people thought he was a hypocrite for saying that since he used the n wkrd in American Eulogy.

The lyric is:

because the martyr is a compulsive liar
When he said "it's just a bunch of niggers throwing gas into the ...."

The entire point of the use of the word in the context in which it is used is calling the person who used it a "compulsive liar". Billie was hardly using the N word in any kind of derogatory way whatsoever. People who argue otherwise have clearly no idea what they're talking about or what Billie has always stood for. As far back as Road to Acceptance Billie has championed equality and used to give little speeches live back in the early 90's gigs during that song that the song was about treating everyone equally regardless of colour, sexuality etc. People who misunderstood the use of the word in American Eulogy are similar to those who failed to understand the use of "faggot" in American Idiot and "Kill all the fags that don't agree" in Holiday. It's like yeah...you people are beyond dumb

My thoughts exactly, except the U.S legs, more UK dates!

Billie's never went that in depth about his addiction. It's crazy how close he was to death. And i absolutely love how they look on the cover

It felt so strange to read about it. It's almost unbelievable. I'm not questioning what he said, what I mean is that it's beyond my imagination somehow. I didn't realize how bad it was...frankly, I'm in awe at how well he managed to keep it together on the outside. At the time I thought the stint was going to be a temporary delay and things would get back to what they like before. It felt a bit "meh" when I realized it won't be that way (and that the tour would be much shorter than it probably was originally meant to be :P ), that seems so selfish and immature now. I don't want to ramble on, all I want to say is that a world withought Green Day would be a much sadder one.

I know what you mean and I think that a lot of people felt that he kept things together really well on the surface but I guess that's what both Billie (in Rolling Stone in 2013) and Michael Mayer meant when they say he is the "most functioning" addict he'd ever seen. Sadly it means that Billie was able to hide his addiction and continue to work most of the time perfectly so it would be impossible for simple fans to guess he had a major problem especially when, over the years he even denied doing drugs (I've seen and read several interviews especially around 21st century breakdown era) or drinking. I remember reading a quote back before the trilogy ironically where he said he doesn't drink anymore. I'm not sure about the original source but it's all over the Internet from years ago.

"I'm a father. It isn't just my life any more. I don't want my kid finding bottles in the house or seeing his father completely smashed."

All in all I don't think fans should feel bad for not guessing that Billie had problems or wanting things to go back to normal, that's natural even if it's not practical ;)

Well...all of that is a part of the issue and it's not that I expect him/anyone else to walk around telling their secrets to complete strangers. It's not our business and it wouldn't be good for anything if we knew anyway.

I don't think we should and I'm not apologetic about it - it's just that my own bichiness from 4 years ago seems super childish in hindsight.. I mean, I felt bad that the band slowed things down but it's a good thing they did and that they are still around.
