[Rumor] Green Day opening for Guns N Roses

There is a little part of me that's like "why they gonna play new songs to non-fans?" (if they are playing new songs that is.) But that's just me being jealous, probably. :P I have no problem with the idea in theory.

It's not that I have a problem with it. It just feels a little weird most likely because I'm not much of a gnr fan.

Exactly, I understand this is not Green Day opening for another band on a regular base. If I'm not so exited is for an egoistic reason, is just because I don't like GnR. If they were doing the same with Pearl Jam (just to mention a band which I deeply love) probably I would have been extremely happy. But whatever, if the crowd welcomes them warmly and this is something actually helping the promotion of RevRad they're right to do so. Even if it isn't, if they like to do so they're right anyway.

It definitely feels weird. They've been a headliner for the majority of their career. I would be interested to see if/how it energizes GnR having to follow such a strong support act as compared to other shows on the tour.

Exactly, it would be cool if they opened for another band I love.

Btw, they shouldn't have cancelled the opening for Rolling Stones. That would have been interesting.

I was thinking the same thing. But I'm sure they made the right decision back then.

if this is true, *they* obviously don't think it's weird for them to be the opener so i really don't see why any of us should :P

*Edit*

The tweet just says the Cult will be "joining them in LA".  It doesn't say anything about both shows, or one show or another.

The Green Day dream is still alive.

The official GnR website says the Cult is opening both nights in LA.  Still no opener for the last show on the North American tour in San Diego.

So sad.

Just remembered this rumour and had to check out this thread to see what happened. So happy it was complete shite. The few GNR fans that posted here almost had me convinced.

I'm laughing so hard at this article. Because of this forum, we kind of pissed off the openers for Guns n' Roses.

"The Cult opened for Guns N’ Roses last night in Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium, and frontman Ian Astbury mocked rumors that Green Day would open at the show instead of them.

“A lot of people thought this would be Green Day, but it’s not.”

Astbury seemed frustrated by the audience’s lack of reaction during the band’s set, calling them lazy at one point. The audience had not yet filled in as The Cult went on at around 6:30PM, so there wasn’t much energy during most of the set. The energy level picked up from the crowd during the last few songs compared to the lackluster earlier reaction, especially when Ian Astbury mentioned that “She Sells Sanctuary” made KROQ. Astbury also mentioned that there were a lot of stories he had about Guns N’ Roses, but he didn’t tell any."

Lol, sounds like they would've been bitter with or without the rumour.

That's normal for any opener, no matter who it is  those guys sound like a bunch of petty wannabees.

So i guess onto the next set of secret show speculations!

The Cult are one of the greatest Rock bands of my Generation, they are not Wannabes at all thanks, check them out, they are absolutely awesome.

You want a spanking lady? I can imagine Ian was a bit miffed,  but I can't let this band be dissed like that haha, they are awesome they are definitely not Wannabes though, one of the biggest bands of the 80's/90's, amazing live too and his voice OMG!!!! Anyhoo I shall back out gracefully..... :D

Fair enough!! But their reaction to being the opener was off-putting. It was reminiscent of the local openers in my area whose egos are unable to accept a smaller crowd. That, in my opinion, is the way that a wannabe would act. The Cult may be a very good (actually they are great, thanks for the links!!!), and popular band, but comparing their own crowd to GnR is just lacking common sense for someone who has been in the industry for as long as they have.

Sorry if this has been already said, I'm just now opening this thread for the first time... I've only read the responses on the first two pages.

Wouldn't it be a little weird to try out the new album in a stadium and in front of a GnR-audience instead of a Green Day-audience? Like, people are there for GnR, not for Green Day and in my experience opening acts aren't very popular and always a thing that the crowd just wants to get over with. I've experienced several times that the opening act was booed, not because they're bad but simply because they're an opening act and should make room for the headliner, you know? The audience, with a few exceptions, doesn't participate. Wouldn't it be better for them to just "practice" in front of an audience that is there because of Green Day and not another band?
Also don't all these classic-rock fans hate on Green Day anyway because it's "soft bubblegum pop punk" and not "real music" or something?

Don't worry about it, it didn't happen.
