[Rumor] Green Day opening for Guns N Roses

I don't get why some people think it's so strange for Green Day to be opening for someone. It's not like GNR are nobodies, and it's not like Billie, Mike, and Tre have such massive egos that they'd absolutely scrap the idea of opening for anyone ever again. :P They probably just want to get used to playing live music again without having the duty of being the main event and the opportunity was there.

I think it isn't a good idea. I mean there will be plenty of GnR fans, who don't care about Green Day at all. First playing of the new songs is a very special moment, Green Day should share it with their fans.

Gnr's most recent album came out six months before 21st Century Breakdown, and yeah the album was pretty shit. It was basically Axl's solo album with everyone that made the core of the band and gave weight to the gnr name gone. Think Billie replacing Mike and Tre with C-D list nobodies and continuing on as Green Day and even then it's still better off than what Axl did with CD.

But anyways, /rant. Just clarifying that this tour is in support of Axl, Slash, and Duff reuniting and not of any new album. Saw them in July and they fucking killed it. Fell out of love with Green Day quite a few years ago, but wouldn't have minded to see them play their old live stuff opening for gnr. They're still a killer live band, no doubt.

Thanks, I didn't realize that.  The article that was posted made it sound like the album was just released

I love Guns N' Roses! I would have went to one of the Chicago shows in July if the tickets hadn't been so expensive. However, if Green Day was opening at those shows I would have been there in a heartbeat.

Not necessarily, Metallica (who is as big if not bigger than Green Day) opened for The Rolling Stones in San Francisco in the mid-2000s.

Well okay that's good , I mean Metallica is a huge deal.

Hopefully they will just do KFAD.

Do you mean Axl for a Day? That's a good idea! They will appear on stage 2 hours late

I don't mind if this happens - they are good friends & it is a warm up for the guys but they better not play new songs to Gunners fans:sick:

I didn't read the article, but I was figuring the article must have implied that when you acted like Guns N' Roses had a new album earlier. But don't listen to Rob. Chinese Democracy is a criminally underrated album and I'll defend it to the death. Is it the classic Guns N' Roses lineup, obviously not. But the music on it is damn good, an extension of the style of the Use Your Illusion albums. Chinese Democracy just gets a bad rep by most people.

I will have to listen to it, but that article described it as possible the worst album ever.  But I will hold off judgement until I listen to it.

Yes, all I ask is that people give it a chance, instead of writing it off because Axl was the only original member on it. I feel the same way about Monuments to an Elegy by Smashing Pumpkins.

Yeah I don't get it either

Why is it not OK to use Phoenix as an example since that's the market I'm familiar with? All I said is that it's the day of the show, they are still advertising it like crazy (because there are a lot of tickets left), and that Groupon is selling tickets for $20...which implies that the venue didn't sell the tickets they were hoping to. That's all I'm going off of.

Here is an interesting article on the tour

http://fortune.com/2016/07/08/guns-n-roses-empty-seats/

They booked stadiums and are having trouble selling out them.  But they are pulling in 35,000 a show, so if they booked arenas instead of stadiums, they probably would have sold out more venues.

I would go to this, but I'd prefer to see them separately.   In my book Green Day are Number One and GNR are number 52.

It feels weird to know Green Day opening for some other band. I mean when did they open for anybody else the last time?

Blink?

Once again, pop disaster was a co-headlining tour.

Not trying to get too off base here, but I never claimed it to be as bad as say Lulu or Cyberpunk. But it doesn't even hold a candle to Appetite or the uyis. It has its moments. I dig the title track, Better, and Twat. Street of Dreams was ok too, but it just felt like a Diet Coke version of November Rain overall. The rest of the tracks either have potential that never fully elevated beyond the line of mediorce or were just utter shit.

There were few and far in between moments of use your illusion-esque stuff, but for the most part it sounded too drastically different from what gnr had already established itself to be, and thus hard to digest as a true blue gnr album. I gave it a fair shot when it came out. I love Axl as an artist, so even if it was essentially an Axl solo album disguised as gnr, I still wanted to find the bright side and like it. Sadly there were just more duds than gems no matter how you look at it, imho.

sorry kids. Back to your regularly scheduled program

They co-headlined with Blink-182, they didn't open for them.

Yeah, Metallica have had a bit more success than Green Day.    Green Day have sold around 75 Millions albums versus Metallica's 110 Million.     Someone took Green Day off of wikipedia's "Best Selling Arists of all time"  list.      They are supposed to be #88 but now they are off the list.   Somebody fix that crap.    Thanks

I'm really thinking on who Green Day has actually Opened for...drawing a blank!

Bad Religion, 1993 tour. They were also openers on the Lollapalooza 1994 tour and I'm not positive but I think they were on the Warped 2000 tour.

I wasnt saying it wasn't a success.  I was simply pointing out that dollars, grossed isn't the only indication of a successful tour.  Ticket sales are also an indication. I never once said it wasn't a success.  You don't need to be so snippy. It was a simple conversation

If it came off as snippy it's because it's the internet and I didn't use one of these :P I cited more than just dollars initially so I didn't understand why you pointed that out, that's why I may have been a bit combative, I apologize

Because you could have just googled it to realize that it has been very successful, that's why haha. Also how many acts have sold out that venue? It seats like 40,000+ for concerts, no? Of course there are seats available, especially considering they are premium priced tickets

I didn't see the initial post.  Apology accepted.  Next time I will read to make sure you didn't post it.

In Germany they opened for Die Toten Hosen in the early 90s.

A few years ago it was rumored Metallica, U2 and Green Day playing shows together. Thank god this never happend.

@belinda jane OK when I saw this thread I immediately thought about the postponement of Guns n Roses tour announcement until Wednesday - wasn't there a large sign in Melbourne saying they were playing the MCG in February.

i haven't seen any posters around, but i'm mostly in the docklands part of melbourne - not the inner CBD.
