BucksCoEric Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Normally id call bullshit on this type of thing though having green day open up for them for two shows in california definitely does sound possible. Green day did induct GnR into the rock n roll hall of fame in 2012 so they have done this kind of thing for them in the past.
Nova-Caine Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Well that'd be rather cool, one of my all time fave bands from my teens playing with my all time fave band of like yuh ever....
dudley dawson Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I COULD go, but I'm not going to because: A: I don't care for Guns n Roses at all B: Getting to Dodger Stadium is a pain in the a** C: Tickets are too expensive to gamble on MAYBE seeing Green Day
cabot_girl Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Strange for me to say so, since GNR was the first band I fell in love with, and I know Duff has been hanging out with Mike and Billie. But for some reason this is not what I hope for. I've been dreaming if them playing with Rancid or other "punk" bands.. And the worst part is that I believe it is true...
Second favourite son Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Part of me wants this to be true. A much bigger part of me doesn't. I honestly have no idea how likely it is to happen, and I won't complain if it does. It just doesn't feel right.

Hermione Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Normally I'd say that Green Day don't need to open for anyone, especially such a washed up old band. But if it's just two shows as a chance to promote the album in a big venue then maybe, I'm sure they are in some way fans of/respect GnR and it's more effective promotion than the traditional option of playing a couple of small shows.
BucksCoEric Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 If green day was opening up for them for the rest of the tour this would feel really weird but if its only two shows i think itd be pretty cool. Could get green day even more exposure to a stadium crowd
yesfan18 Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Don't want to be that guy, but I did bring this up a few weeks ago and people didn't believe it. Also it will most likely be them. Guns hasn't announced the openers for those shows yet either. However if some of you are questioning about going to the show, totally go. Seeing Green Day play again would be insane and also Guns sounds great this tour. Just saw them a few weeks ago and the show was great. Axl and Slash sound on fire.
dudley dawson Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I'm hoping they do some small shows (or at least 1) in LA leading up to the album release. I would love to go to one of those.

That's just silly to call them washed up and old especially when we're on a Green Day fan site, they aren't exactly spring chickens either. Green Day isn't at the level of GNR in the states, not even close. The size/$$ of this GNR tour is something Green Day would never be able to match. They also just had Skrillex open for them in a one-off show in Houston, and Skrillex is a lot more in-demand right now than Green Day whether we'd like to admit it or not.
BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Unlikely but not impossible. They could be doing it instead of warm-up secret shows this time round but I'm not sure if I see them premiering new songs at this type of show.
okotavio Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Yeah, I really don't wanna see them premiering the first new songs in 4 years in front of people who really don't care about them. If it was a old songs set only (like that Oakland Arena show in 2011) I'd be ok with it. Play for your fans first goddamnit!

I think you're giving GnR too much credit. I didn't think this tour was doing well at all. Here in Phoenix the show is tonight and they are still advertising the hell out of it and selling tix for $20 on Groupon. Doesn't sound like it's been a major success.
Sixtrix Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 There's a good chance of this actually happening. But I don't see it as a bad thing though. I'm just not sure if the GnR audience is the fitting audience for the new Green Day songs.
Alan86 Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 When was the last time Green Day opened for another band? I won't count co-headlining a festival. I mean proper opening for another band?

Nope. They co-headlined. Equal stage time.
noonoo Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Mod of Gnrtruth.com confirmes that Green Day will be the opening act, just like OP said. http://gnrtruth.proboards.com/thread/5662/la-second-night?page=3
stories and songs Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I believe it. I think OP IS the source. The band members are friends. Makes sense.

That's terrible evidence for measuring success of a tour (an anecdotal fallacy either way) How bout we compare that to some Green Day tours. First, they're playing 25 large stadium shows on this tour (US only), wanna know the most US stadium shows Green Day has ever landed for one tour? 10. The GNR tour had cleared the $100 mil revenue mark in the middle of July, the 21st Century Breakdown tour (GD's most recent large-scale tour) made about $74 mil the ENTIRE tour. GNR has sold out 12/25 shows completely despite massive venues and ticket prices, and projected 90% capacity (one million tix) for the second leg of the tour. /FOH
Chin for a Day Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I don't mind GNR, the have some good songs. I would go if there weren't 3,000 miles between me and Dodger Stadium.
