asiegrist Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I'll be in the minority and say Oh Love. The lyrics in Oh Love are phenomenal just with the whole living in the moment, heart on the loose. Yea it's not as exciting as Bang Bang since it's not fast/punk but I'd say the lyrics in Oh Love are slightly better, that's what does it for me. Now, the rest of the trilogy I'd say some of the other songs lyrics could have used improvement. I do like Bang Bang too it's definitely grown on me but it's not anything special.
Doris The Spider Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I did not like Oh Love. I didn't get me excited for the Trilogy, it bored me, and I still don't like that song. I think it was the worst first single they ever put out. Bang Bang isn't the greatest song ever but I'm so excited for the new album.
Harry Potter. Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 tbh i'd rather get another oh love than another know your enemy. oh love wasn't the worst single ever, just not very good for green day.
Afflejack Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 the thing is, comparatively, bang bang i think is superior imo. but at the time, oh love was amazing itself. but i think after the trilogy bang bang is what we needed, we didnt need another oh love.
Tubbie Head Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 That's a no brainer Oh Love is in my opinion the worst lead single they've ever put out. I have no idea how they thought it would be a good idea! Even if Bang Bang is not suitable for the radio it doesn't matter, it represents who they are as a band much better, and that's what a lead single should be about.
Private Ale. Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Bang bang , of course. i also choose bang bang over american idiot, holiday,BOBD,Know Your Enemy,21 guns, kill the dj.. but it will never beat X-kid though. poor song never got to be famous like it deserved to be

One of the underrated Trilogy gems. It's sad that it never received the proper exposure it deserved. DRB and Brutal Love suffered the same fate.

I mean, it makes sense since he hates AI, doesn't like Bang Bang, and worships Katy Perry. Dude, if you don't like music that isn't traditional 4/4 Verse/Chorus then you're missing out on a TON of amazing music. Speaking of time signatures like how Green Day for the most part stick to 4/4, I only realized recently that they sneakily chucked in a 3/4 part in Homecoming in Nobody Likes you.
stories and songs Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 There's no comparison. Bang Bang wins by a mile for me. Oh Love just drags, and there were so many better songs from Uno to choose. But my distaste toward that song just has to do with my general discomfort with the start of that whole era—that Oh Love video was awful, and basically the exact opposite of why I love this band.

Oh Love's lyrics are not in the same league as Bang Bang. The underpinnings of gun commentary within the context of the United States current state is far more difficult to pull off than what Oh Love does. And while I like Oh Love, it was just not a good lead single choice. Too laid back and not quite clever enough to make up for it 1 hour ago, Harry Potter. said: tbh i'd rather get another oh love than another know your enemy. oh love wasn't the worst single ever, just not very good for green day. The Great Saiyaman Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I voted Bang Bang because I like it more. That's it and there's no other reason for it!

21guns&novacaine Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Bang Bang, definitely. Oh Love is a great song on it's own, but there were plenty of other tracks on Uno that would have made a better single in terms of being appealing to a wider audience.
PursuitOfEpicness Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Oh Love is a great album closer, album closers aren't that great of singles for me. Would you make Whatsername a lead single?

This is a really good point...after the trilogy we needed something fast, hard hitting, gritter sounding guitars, etc and we certainly got it with Bang Bang. I think the band definitely realized this and in some way they are trying to distance themselves from the trilogy. They didn't perform any of the trilogy in Cleveland (except 99 rev) and the latest playlist they didn't have any songs from the trilogy on there either.

Little Boy Named Submarine Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 For me, a lead single need to have a good chorus, so by that way it will be sung by people anywhere and anytime. Thats what makes Oh Love a better single, because theres no way a non GD fans would sing Bang Bang on the street, me as a GD fan still find it hard to sing this song without hearing the song itself, even tho its been played on my stereo for days repeatedly. It feels like dont have the edge of epicness.
WhiteTim Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 In what universe does oh love have a good chorus?
SomeNimrod97 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 9 hours ago, Steven Seagull said: Oh Love is Coca Cola, Bang Bang is Coca Cola Zero. They're both good Bang Bang is just missing that sugar that could make it better. Somebody has probably missed this one but Seagull does have them the right way round. Bang Bang is like Coke Zero in that it's great with less flaws than Coca Cola and Oh Love is Coca Cola because it has the horrible stigma attached to it of something that is considered to be rather bad by many.

Maid Meringue Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 This is a disgrace of a thread Oh Love has always been just fine to me. I thought it was about the love of being an entertainer and how it's easy to go overboard with it. I liked that little window into their mindset of the time. Bang Bang made me feel super nostalgic about 21stCB which is my second favorite album, so I had to vote for it. There's a time and place for everything.
gd86arg Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 I like a power lead single like Bang Bang but as song I prefer Oh Love, I love the solo half Billie/half Jason
