BetterThanAir Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 I assumed it was his own choice to step down as an official member because of his cancer. Didn't he have stomach cancer? I have had two people in my family with that; one passed away, and it took the other years to feel better.

He became the "Official Member" like how England became the "Official Home" for Green Day.

I would also figure that calling someone an official member and including them in things like another official member would be in is much different than just calling a place an 'official home'.

As I mentioned before, The 3 of them are only signed to the Record company and the 3 of them are the decision makers and the 3 of them get % of the Merch sales etc etc. They see Jason as their brother and Jason has helped them a lot and I find him cool too, so as a nice gesture they said he is also a member and Put his image of "Quatro".

Seriously?! Sorry, I must have missed that. I totally didn't even realize that.

Well Green Day is not complicated like Guns N' Roses and other bands. But I will give you an example of GNR, at the moment the band has 7 members, but only the 3 of them are the decision makers, the other 4 are "official" members, but they basically have no decision making right. They are just "hired" hands. If you get what I mean, but still they are called band members. Similar thing with Green Day. Billie, Mike and Tre are the decision makers and legally they are in charge of everything. I don't think so they would add another person in all this legal mess. But as a fan I have always seen Jason as the 4th member cause he has really helped a lot and he is a cool guitar player.
Grinch Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 I considered Jason fully part of the band after he became part of the entire writing/recording process of the 3 albums and is credited with being in it on the CDs

I agree with you that it wouldn't necessarily be likely for Jason White to be part of a legal partnership with the band. But it's a bit bold to state it as fact without any evidence. I understand where you're coming from with your point, and it makes sense. But that doesn't necessarily mean it's right. Jason could easily have been part of a partnership then left of his own accord for either personal or professional reasons. Partnerships are often far more complex than they appear to those looking from the outside, so it's unwise to make assumptions about them. Totally agree with your last point though, whatever you want to categorise him as Jason is an awesome guy and an invaluable contributor to Green Day's live performances.

True, you never know what happened, it does includes a lot of papers and lawyers, but Billie is always there to help Jason, so we never know what happened behind the scenes.

Im not super familiar with the album yet since I first started listening a few days ago but I don't recall any horns on there at all. I might be wrong but I don't remember there being any. Also band said only they knew and their wives about the album when they were recording it.

That Dude Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 They should have made Jason at least the temporary lead singer when Billie was having his issues during the Trilogy era. Could have sold some copies of them if they had done this. Imagine the songs from the Trilogy put through a Pinhead Gunpowder filter. PURE. GOLD.
Slash Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 It was weird when none of them mentioned Jason during their hall of fame speeches.

That Dude Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I'm over in the Still Breathing Lyric Video thread and watching a video of them playing said song and Minority, and talking about Donald Trump. During the band introductions Billie Joe gets to Jason White and says "he's BEEN IN THE BAND SINCE 1999". It's official, Jason's been official for 17 years now!

Pretty sure BJ said he was their Cuatro at HOB.
