Pretty sure it's Blake. Back in 2005 I thought it would be awesome if those guys joined Green Day officially. Maybe that's why I'm so butt hurt about Jason stepping down / getting demoted. The six of them (plus Pelino possibly?) Simply put on the best concert I've ever seen. I went with my dad and a girl from work and neither of them had any strong feelings about Green Day, but all three of us left saying it was the greatest live concert any of us had ever been to. But 11 years have gone so fast (wink) and now we've got a tight little 3 piece, and that's fine. Perhaps in the future we'll get an official six piece Green Day and I wouldn't mind at all. Blake isn't with them anymore and now Matika is sixth man on the totem poll. Billie Mike Tre Jason White Jason Freeze Jeff Matika I guess the Foxboro Hot Tubs and the Network are the closest thing you can get to a six-piece Green Day. So there's that. Most bands have official musicians and then touring musicians. Pretty much all of them are like that. I don't understand why it is so important to you for them to be official members. They are still going to have more than 3 of them on tour so you will still see the same show. I don't think what they are doing is really anything unusual.

Great attention to detail, I love it and conversations such as this. From my perspective, I've always been less concerned about the "official" members per se, and kind of appreciate the clean 3 piece lineup. Kind of similar to when you go to see Van Morrison or Clapton- you appreciate or recognize the backing band as incredibly talented and valuable to the show, but you are there for one reason. And for me, that reason is obviously to see Tre, Bille, and Mike (the order is intentional because at different times I am digging one or the others' contributions the most, and with BB it may be Tre). But there's no dispute- Billie is the creative input and the brains of the operation, Tre and Mike are very closely involved during the creative process, and all the other guys/ gals are great musicians but there as complementary pieces. I love the knowledge on display- you know your stuff and pay attention to some of the things that make following the band so much fun. Well done.
Hermione Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 When I go and see them I'm going to see Billie, Mike, Tre and Jason. Like I've specifically chosen to be on Jason's side of the stage before because I enjoy watching him perform. The other live musicians are cool too but Jason is definitely a bigger part of the show and presented as a bigger part of the band regardless of whether he's played on their last album or not. A "fourth member" if you will - and he's been that before and during (and will be after) the trilogy era. He's already marked out as being next after Billie Mike and Tre with or without playing on an album, only thing I'd add to the above post.
That Dude Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Revolution Radio seems like it is going to be a stripped down, guitar/bass/drums record. But Billie, Mike and Tre all play multiple instruments. There could be some piano, farfifa and baseball bat on this album.

What if they wanted things to be flexible so that he's in the band but his role can change according to what works them at the time? He hasn't necessarily stepped down/been demoted from anything, could just be it suited all of them for his role to include playing on the album last time but not this time. And given that he's had cancer and been fronting another band it's likely it was what suited him more than anything. Maybe next time circumstances will mean playing on the album will be on the cards but either way he's still in the band and still going to tour the world in it. Not much need to be sad when for all we know things might be exactly how Jason wants them. I agree with you in that is was probably fine with Jason White and it may have been his own decision. It's just that Green Day's stable line-up has always been one of their strengths and I thought that it would be a permanent thing. Perhaps Billie was only talking about himself when he said the thing about the only way to leave Green Day is in a coffin. But I'm good now. Green Day have been my favorite band for nearly 20 years so they are stuck with me. If Mike or Tre were to leave for whatever reason, that would be a big deal. Billie may even recruit from the backing musicians if that were to happen and that would be interesting. If Billie were to leave Green Day, that would be devastating. There's a small chance they could get someone and continue to make good music, but it would be so weird. Blink-182 are down to only 1 original member out of 3 but are doing better than they have in a long time.

Technically, Mark isn't an original member. Someone else played bass on all but the covers of their Flyswatter demo.

If it's true that means Blink-182 has ZERO originals left, haha! Even if that is the case, they are killing it in 2016 and sound great! Team Skiba! (With Skiba on board, it means that all three members of Blink are in multiple favorite bands of mine like Transplants, +44, Alkaline Trio......the list just goes on and on.) ....and just so mods won't yell at me, Jason White! You're free from the chains of Green Day. You have the time, join the fight to destroy 'pop punk' and put out something subversive and weird. Do a Pinhead Gunpowder album with little to no input from Billie and see what happens. Green Day is "Billie's Band" basically, so the others should go out on a limb and record something different. I know they do projects here and there but a lot of it doesn't get released. Imagine a Tre Cool-fronted band! We could argue that The Network was a Mike Dirnt-fronted band but we may never know who wrote what on THAT album. The Network might not even be Green Day.
Clockwise Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Jason White should form a new band with Tom Delonge!
Alan86 Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Any chance the trilogy was just a one off where Billie did not want to record 2-3 different guitar tracks for 37 songs. So Jason was asked to play on the record to save Billie recording 2 or 3 guitar tracks for 37 songs aswell as recording Vocals and backing vocals for every song. Looking back at it the work load Billie would have had compared to everyone else was actually extraordinary, especially if he had recorded all the guitar tracks too.

I'd rather not hear Jason singing agonizingly monotonous drivel about the loneliness of floating through space and searching for aliens while writing godawful novels about searching for aliens and being lonely in space. Are you kidding or serious? It's cool if you like Tom Delonge but you're wrong. If Jason were going to pair up with someone Mark Hoppus could be a good fit. A Mark, Jason and Travis show perhaps? Or Jason, Mike Dirnt and Travis Barker? Hmmm. We need to leave Tom alone though. We don't won't to disturb his alien hunting because it's soooo much more important than making good music.
That Dude Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 I bought the Big Cats album The Ancient Art Of Leaving: High & Low. I've only casually listened to it so far. I'd like to hear Jason do a solo project. No Gunpowder, no Cats, etc. Jason White: Doing his own thing. I believe it would be great. Also, Mike and Tre needs solo albums. JASON WHITE JASON WHITE JASON WHITE JASON WHITE JASON WHITE JASON WHITE

SpikeSpiegel Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 One should bear in mind that any professinal band or even "solo artist" has in fact fare more contributers than the ones that appear on the covers. All the other live/studio musicans, the producer, roadies, (tour) managers, technicak stuff etc. play an important role so that at the end of the day a good product (in this case album or show) is delivered. It is a medium-sized company that has far more work to do than 3 guys can handle.

tresexy101 Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I think he just didn't want to be part of the Illuminati.
ArmatageShanksMe Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Strange that jason white is the 4th green day member yet on the bang bang music video its like he does not exist Did he get kicked out or something?
alienlifeform Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Green Day is a trio, Jason is just a tour member
ArmatageShanksMe Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 If im not mistaking in cuatro, billie called jason him "the 4th member"

Leni. Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Well, he wasn't in photos either, why is so strange to everyone he's not in the video. He doesn't have to be stuck in some band forever as an "official member" if he doesn't want to.
