That Dude Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Finally someone else cares! I've been asking and asking about him over in the RevRad section but no replies. Apparently he's been demoted from fourth member to backing member this year. From things they've said it sounds like they wanted absolutely no outside help on this album, just the three of them locked in a room and banging out killer tunes. No Jason, no producer, etc. I'm trying to figure out if he even plays guitar on the album. No solid proof just yet, but I don't think he does. Was it his decision? Did Billie demote him, was it a group decision? Was it due to other projects, did he only join officially in 2012 because Billie was struggling on guitar duty due to personal issues? WHAT THE F(WOO) HAPPENED TO JASON WHITE???? How much influence on Green Day's music has he had, if at all? With the whirlwind of Green Day news, the only thing we've heard about Jason is that he, along Freeze and Matika are back for the upcoming tour. I, along with apparently one other person on here, want answers!
DanPak Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Jason's never seemed like a "rockstar" like the rest of the guys, even during the run-up to the trilogy he never did interviews like the rest did. It's probably his own choice, he probably found after the trilogy promotion shitshow that he's just too introverted to handle the limelight of being a core member. I'm not too fussed, I mean let's be honest here, what did he bring to the trilogy guitarwise that Billie wouldn't have thought to do?

Virtuous Xman Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 It would appear to me that Jason doesn't want all the press and fame that comes with being in the band. He would rather be the person that just plays the music on stage and turn that part of him off when they are not touring. Billie, Mike and Tre don't have that same privilege to an extent.
Hero_Of_The_Hour Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Everyone needs to chill out. I figured it was fairly obvious that the reason Jason isn't an "official member" any more is due to his having cancer and needing treatment /recovery time during the time when they were recording the album. Jason almost certainly was ordered to take it easy and choose to step back a bit from the band but will continue touring which doesn't require him to be present for months on end during the recording process. His health will be his priority now unless he's a total idiot which it doesn't appear is the case.

I don't know if that's completely true as he recorded and played shows with his band California after having throat cancer. I don't really know, or maybe no longer care, why he is or isn't as involved. That's between him and Billie, Mike and Tre.
WhiteTim Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Touring is ALOT harder on a body then recording is lol

But if he's part of the touring band his doctors must have given him the green light that he's ok.
tresexy101 Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 A lot is two words - however, on the facebook live thang, Billie mentioned 'the future aint what it used to be' which is a PHGP lyric.... Mike then says, something about no strings attached - which led me into a not very deep thought that Jason was focusing on his other band or bands.... and the little snippet on Rolling Stone which mentions band trouble? or something along those lines had me thinking, hmm, Jason White is not a part of the Illuminati.

I, along with apparently one other person on here, want answers! He's still the "fourth member", clearly after Billie Mike and Tre he's next in the line up before Jason Freese and Jeff Matika. That's always been the case even when he played on the trilogy, he's never been presented as having the exact same role/level of involvement as the others. So he's not "demoted", he's still the fourth member of the band doing the amount that suits him/them (which none of them have ever defined as a set amount), just doesn't happen to include playing on the album this time.

I agree. But at the same time if he was busy with other projects and his health, and he's still off on tour with them, then it's probably not an issue that he hasn't again, more just the way it worked out this time.
grene cniht Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I feel sorry for @Hermione because she's really the voice of reason yet no one seems to get what she's saying and she has to say it all over again every time someone talks about Jason's status

That Dude Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 So do we know for certain that he didn't play on the new album?
drummerman Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 I think Billie's original announcement of him as the 4th member was only ever meant to be tongue-in-cheek. As was putting his face on Cuatro!. It's to their credit that GD didn't involve him in Rev Rad, they let him jam with them on the Trilogy and that was hardly their best output...

Did you actually watch Control?! Did you actually hear what Billie said about Jason playing with them since 1999 and WHY he was now being considered the fourth member? There was nothing whatsoever tongue in cheek about it.
That Dude Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Maybe he wrote all the lyrics and music for the Trilogy and after that they realized he just wasn't cut out for the job. LOL
DeJennsitized Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Could be a combination of Jason wanting back out of the spotlight and the guys realising they market better as a trio. If Jason is still a touring guitarist he can't be that upset, lol.
