Clockwise Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Best song they've put out as a single in a long time. Don't know about it's appeal on the radio though.
Dakke Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 The sound is very Insomniac/Nimrod-esque, while lyrically being very reminiscent of St. Jimmy/East Jesus Nowhere.
gdpony Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I don't love it. It's a mix of take back and St Jimmy. It's not catchy and I really doubt it will do any good on charts and radio and stuff. I know it's not the point, but I love it when the guys are everywhere. The lyrics are meh, political Green Day bores me. They could've done so much better. Hopefully the album will surprise me.
fukingcounterstrike Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Surprisingly enough I really enjoy the song....... if only Willy's voice wasn't so shitty I could actually get into it a lot more

Should have done nuclear family, stay the night or let yourself go first when it came to not only single but also music video as well Agreed. It's also too long and seems to drag after a while, in my opinion. It just isn't representative of Green Day or the project, or even the album. 7 hours ago, Steven Seagull said: I think Oh Love was a perfect single. It got you waiting for that catchy chorus. And by that time we already heard Stay The Night so that wouldn't work. It would've worked perfectly. Who cares if we had some shitty sound check version of it on YouTube? That doesn't mean it couldn't have been released. If anything, it would've increased the hype, wouldn't it, since it was rather well-received? If I recall correctly, aside from the recycled songs from other eras, Stay the Night was the first song written specifically for the trilogy. It seemed inspired, unlike the rest of the project, and if it was trimmed a little bit for time I don't see how you can dispute that it would've been a great single effort. A good song doesn't keep you waiting for it to start, it's good from start to end. 1 hour ago, Second favourite son said: The celebrity martyr one. Christian's Inferno! Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I love Oh Love. The first time I heard it I love it and now I still do. I think it was a great single and I was excited the first time I heard it. Bang Bang is also brilliant to me, idk which is better but I love both Know Your Enemy to me is a disappointing lead single. 21st CB would've been a much better lead single and probably would've done much more for the album than KYE. GD were lucky that 21 Guns was a hit, otherwise nobody would've heard 21CB and it basically would've been the trilogy

A good song doesn't keep you waiting for it to start, it's good from start to end. No it wouldn't. Stay the night is a great song but you can't use a song people already heard (even if just the sound check version) as your FIRST single. You need to pick something people haven't heard yet and after 3 years, Oh Love was a perfect choice. It was a great, catchy song with a nice chorus. If not Oh Love I would maybe pick Rusty James. That song was awesome too. I don't know what other songs on the RR are like but Bang Bang as first single is not really that good to me. The song starts really good but when the vocals come it's just meh. Like I said no real chorus on that song. But first singles are usually not the best songs anyway so I'm looking forward for the second one. Currently I'm not that excited as I was when Oh Love came out.

This video is from 2011, for example.

I wasn't on GDC at that time. But if I heard it I would still think the same. Choose another song. Rusty James then

Christian's Inferno! Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 A lot of trilogy songs were played before the trilogy was announced
KGLWW Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed this song a lot more first couple days than I ever did for Oh Love, but it's just not a song I want to listen to on repeat. It seems like they're trying to sound like someone they're not almost. Idk, maybe it's just the fact that it sounds like songs from bands I really don't like. It sort of has the lyrics and feel of old green day but musically it just doesn't really feel like them
stories and songs Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 I think it's phenomenal. Contrary to some other comments, I think this albums sound more like THEM than they have in a while, perhaps. They managed to mix Nimrod/Insomniac/American Idiot/21CB into one song. I adore it. It moves, it's fun, it's cleverly written, and it's catchy. If this is indicative of the rest of the album, I'm stoked.

However to me when a band comes out with new music they should always have the song that introduces the album. Oh love was a somewhat ballad. To me its better to have that kick in the door song first.
Maid Meringue Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 I think it was the next logical step evolution-wise following 21stCB. The prefect blend of St. Jimmy, EJN, and Horseshoes & Hand grenades. But probably my favorite thing about it is that it's about two people, or two paths that a single person can take when the world they live in becomes too overwhelming. There are both extremes that boil down to disassociation and radicalism. Lets say there's a young adult watching the news, reading articles and comments, and its so full of hate (or opinions in general that they don't agree with) that they no longer know how to handle it. One path they can take is just ignoring it. They remain ignorant of social and political issues in favor of whatever gets them off (sex, drugs, internet addiction?) and plaster it all over social media, where their value as a human being is determined by likes and views. The other path is violence or radicalism. They become so wrapped up in wanting to be heard, wanting their personal truth to be known, and they know the media will sensationalize anything that is viewed as a tragedy. This radicalism is not of any particular nature because it can be applied to religious extremists of all kinds, as well as those who act violently even for the "right" reasons (social justice) or to make political statements (such as violence at presidential candidate rallies). This kind of duality is the driving force behind the AI and 21stCB as well, but for Bang Bang it's a blend of the two: American Idiot is about finding a place in society - JOS is a man who recognizes his toxic environment and seeks help from those he meets, eventually using his experiences to start his life over. On the flip side St. Jimmy is manipulative and self-destructive and his death is the catalyst for JOS to stop running away from problems with his old friends and family. 21stCB is considerably more political - Gloria thinks that the best way to revolutionize is though Protest and Education, whereas Christian thinks that rioting/looting/vigilantism is the only way to change things. Lines become blurred when Christian realizes Gloria's shortcomings and Gloria becomes afraid of his erratic behavior, and in the end they part ways with just wanting to make it out of the mess alive. So then we have Bang Bang. I dont think RevRad will be nearly as black and white because of what we know from the Rolling Stone article, but this particular song is. Every line is an extreme opposite of the other and it touches on both social and political issues. I could literally assess every line but that would just be annoying for everyone to bother reading (as if this wasn't already). TL;DR - Bang Bang you rock don't ever change have a great summer see you in the fall.
tresexy101 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Love the song, love the lyrics, love the aggressiveness to tackle this issue... especially when the meaning of this song is still a current issue around the world. And this song just grows on you like a fungus. i have so many more words to describe how much I love this song but I'm drunk.
