Forever Now? Outlaws? Bang Bang? Troubled Times? Nothing here really sticks out like X-Kid, 8th Avenue Serenade, Stop When The Red Lights Flash, A Little Boy Named Train etc. I find the cover art to be kind of "Eh" as well. It's essentially just the Kill The DJ artwork, but less of a headache. Looks almost placeholder. i'm not super keen on most of the song titles either but the trilogy had awesome titles with very meh songs so you can't really judge by that. i mean, if you think of albums like nimrod and warning a lotof the song titles are pretty boring too: all the time, uptight, walking alone, jackass, hold on, etc etc but the songs themselves are great. i wouldn't read too much into it.
James11693 Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Really happy it's called Revolution Radio. Love that title. Don't really mind the song titles but I can see why people don't like them. Anyone think this album can still blow up like idiot did? Considering Billie said the albums not really about the elections or anything. Idiot blew up because it was basically based off of that and the presidency. This doesn't seem to be like that. My friend also told me that one of the articles said it wasn't going to be that political either which kinda bums me out
rockmanx37 Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 The cover is fine, i like it. I want to know the track times!

spark in the night Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 I like the flaming radio, but the "Green Day" fake graffiti font is yuck. Looks like it was slapped together in MS Paint. I totally love the typography they did for BANG BANG. I think its the same style they used on the Trilogy. That font works for them. But the graffiti seems too immature. I guess it appeals to younger kids. I'm getting old

WhiteTim Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 What's with the track time fascination do the times give an indication on how good the song is?

I have a screenshot but can't for the life of me figure out how to post it. (nvm) EDIT: Oh, I didn't realize they're gone now. I remember that Forever Now (I think) is nearly 7 minutes long and Outlaws is about 5.5.

Sometimes track times can be indicative of quality. Every track I've ever heard over 7 minutes has been gold. Just to name a few in length order: Citizen Erased, Champagne Supernova, HK Farewell, Jesus of Suburbia, Homecoming and The Globalist.
Tubbie Head Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 ^ Yeah, I can't help but get really excited about the long songs, given GD's history with those!

Anyway, point is that if a song is longer than 7 minutes, it tends to be a song that is executed very well and is well remembered by fans.

Revolution 9 is very well remembered by Beatles fans everywhere, just not for the reason you'd hope
aaaa Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 i really think this is not the real album cover. i mean.. they put a guy to working only on the single's art (and a wall for photos) and to the cover they just puting fire in a radio? i dont think so.

I agree; I think that once a song reaches that kind of length, it's got to be memorable or relatively progressive to keep the listener's attention. You've got to make it interesting. I think that the mark of a truly good song that runs over 7 minutes is that, once the song ends, the listener feels that it's only been a minute or two, instead of 7+. In fact, I was listening to Cathedral Spires as I was typing these comments, and I didn't even realize that 9 minutes had passed until I heard the song end. A good long song lets you lose yourself in the music.

When you think of every concert GD have played since 2005, everyone has known the lyrics to JoS.

Then you have people claiming it's 10 minutes long and 7 minutes long. Nobody knows and nobody will know until someone from management or Warner puts actual times to titles or everyone else records numbers on 7/10. I listed it first and it wasn't first at 13, it was what they had on that leaked tracklist since it was correct about the songs and Bang Bang's time.

And I'm not necessarily equating the originality or creativeness of the title to the actual quality of the songs themselves, but there isn't really a title here that makes me think "I wonder what that song is about". There's no interesting or colorful word choices.

Yeah, honestly it looks like the cover to a crappy overproduced heavy metal album. There's no style to it, and it being against a blank black background makes it seem like it was slapped together really quickly. Plus it's honestly a little on the nose given the title of the album.

Every track I've ever heard over 7 minutes has been gold. Well, thinking about it again, When the Wild Wind Blows is pretty bad, and Lochness is pretty much pointless. You can't make a song long just for the sake of it; the amount of material that you want to put in the song has to warrant that kind of length. But I don't see GD as the overly self-indulgent type.
