I dunno if he used that phrase or not but yeah he's mentioned him being the fourth member and stuff, and he was credited as an equal member on those albums because he played on them as an equal member. But they never made an announcement like "Jason is our new official member and will now do everything we do" lol, seems more like his role in the band just naturally grew and that they've deliberately left it less black and white and more flexible. Expectations that he either has to do everything the others do or he's "not official" or "downgraded" are only from fans.
