Because it's true Mike came up with the name and I really doubt it would've been for a serious (and insulting to Billie) reason like that, I've heard them explain it's a word that means dweeb/nerd lots of times and they've never mentioned anything about Billie's drinking in connection to it. His comments about being "everyone's drunk uncle" and "wearing a leopard g string", drinking too much and acting silly on stage etc were really about the tour after the album came out anyway. If there's another quote I don't know about I'd be interested to know but otherwise I doubt that was the reason for the title.

Thanks for finding it anyway! Always interested in proving/disproving bits of Green Day info so glad we got to the bottom of it . It'll be interesting to see if the album title does relate to the stuff Billie went through even if Nimrod wasn't a previous example of it.
