Why Do You Want Him was a track that really hit me emotionally when I was first getting into Green Day. It was my absolute favorite back in '04, and still is one of my favorites. Going to Pasalacqua, Only of You...Shit, 1039 Smooth has so many of my favorite love songs! 80, of course. Church On Sunday. Whatsername is another song that really hits me hard. It's hauntingly beautiful. I also love Sassafrass Roots because...well, it would be nice having a guy to waste time with.

I've adored When I Come Around for as long as I can remember, and Last Night On Earth

Brutal Love and Scattered. Brutal Love, to me, is the most emotional song they've ever made (other than perhaps Still Breathing). It really, really hits me every time. It evokes such longing and struggle in a relationship—wanting to make it work with someone so badly, but not knowing how. There's something a bit ugly to it, and I love that. At the time it came out, especially, it just really resonated with me.

And Scattered is just beautiful. Some of the most heartfelt lyrics in a Green Day song, I think. "It's all I've got and I'm giving it to you."

2000 light years away

Westbound Sign felt like my anthem when I moved to New Orleans to be with Darryl. Except for me it's a southbound sign :P

edit: OH WAIT. I just remembered Only of You. THAT SONG. 😍😍

Last Night on Earth or Redundant (obviously biased as its my favourite song by green day but still) for two completely different reasons. i love lnoe for its lyrics, but again, as someone said above, i love redundant for its haunting vibe.

So much to choose from D:

But my all time favorites about love are Paper Lanterns and 80 :) Also in love with One For The Razorbacks, Good Riddance, Sassafras Roots, Only Of You, Dry Ice, Words I Might Have Ate and Last Night On Earth. They're all so relatable.

Their are so many amazing songs . Like Why do you want him - Was that the first song Billie wrote ? . And all of the songs on the 1000 hours EP are about the same girl ? . Also more recently with Oh Love and Last Night on Earth etc .

What's your favorite Green Day song about Love / Relationships ? - Are their any lyrics that mean anything to you ?

My favorites are Only of You and Paper Lanterns :) .

Both Only of You and Paper Lanterns are my favorites!

2000 Light Years Away because it reminds me of the excitement and innocence of young love, Scattered because I feel like I've lived that song many times (too many!)  and Church on Sunday, just because!

Whatsername, Whatsername, Whatsername! But I also adore Brutal Love, When it's Time and Poprocks&Coke.

Oh and I forgot to mention Youngblood. I never had a love-/relationship-song that actually made me laugh, but this one did  It's such a fun song. Every time I listen, I have to picture Billie falling into hedges.

Oh that's a difficult one! It's a tie between Last Night on Earth and Brutal Love for my #1 spot. LNOE is a truly beautiful, classic love song done well and a few years ago I would have picked that, but I may have to go for Brutal Love now. It's one of Billie's most passionate performances and is great in that it isn't about unconditional, "perfect" love - it's about the other side, desperately trying to make things work and wanting it more than anything, but struggling. In the context of the trilogy, it ties the vague story together nicely - all the themes of sexual tension, longing, chaos and forbidden love. It's also such an incredible live closer and I'll never forget looking back at Emirates to see the whole stadium lit like stars with lighters and phone screens. One of their best songs in general, I think.

Actually totally forgot about it because Shenanigans isn't a studio album but Do Da Da is so fun and cute. I never skip it when listening to that album. I really think it's in my top ten green day songs actually.

Well, 80 from a pure musical standpoint as it's been one of my favorite songs forever.

Last Night On Earth has to be the tops though, just based on my personal experience. It was my wedding song, so huge points there. And then a couple months later my wife and I met them before a show, we let them know it was our wedding song and even though they weren't yet playing it at the time, they promised to play it for us. And they did. And it was a fantastic, ridiculously emotional Billie full song acoustic version. It doesn't get any better than that- wedding song from my favorite band, and to cap it off we had a chance to tell them the story behind it, requested it, and they played it. Pretty unreal.

Wow, what a great story, thanks for sharing it! Green Day playing your wedding song for you, who can say this except for Mark Zuckerberg (and you)? ;)

I love Youngblood,  it's such an honest song.  And I love when he sings "she said fuck you I'm from Oakland"

@MMwhatsername yes, it was incredible. I had never met them before, so it was incredible to both meet them and share the story that LNOE was our wedding song (and our wedding was only about a week after 21CB came out). We were definitely first over Zuckerberg but he did happen to have him play it at his wedding, so I'm sure he'll want to retain bragging rights!

The long version of the story is funny- Jason, Tre, and Mike were sort of confused and apologetic, saying "oh, sorry, we never play that, but we'll put in a good word, that's really awesome and touching" (essentially saying hey, Billie controls the setlist!).

BJA was great- he didn't even hesitate and was like "awesome, I'll play it for you guys, that's so cool". I was pretty much shaking while explaining that it was our wedding song and he couldn't have been more gracious. We still didn't fully expect to hear it for whatever reason, it seemed too good to be true. But boy, did he every play it. It was such a touching and emotional rendition, too.

There's a video of the performance out there- Last Night on Earth in Albany, 2009. We sobbed like babies throughout the entire performance, so I'm glad someone recorded it so we could preserve the memory!

So many good songs to chose from....however, i must admit i get pretty choked up everytime i hear like a rat does cheese.

Man. There are a few for me. Mostly dealing with breakups.

Whatsername immediately comes to mind. "Forgetting you but not the time" is just such an emotional line for me. I'm not afraid to admit that I cried to that song a lot over someone that broke my heart in two.

When It's Time was my brother and his wife's first dance song at their wedding, so that always brings up that awesome memory.

Blood, Sex and Booze (while not really a love song) is great because once I realized Billie was singing about the same kinky shit I was becoming more and more aware/interested of, it made me love them as a band even more.

Ordinary World will eventually be the first dance at my wedding. I love that song and hope someone, someday loves it enough to dance to at our wedding. :)
