bloodymurderbitch Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 I met Billie super briefly outside of American Idiot the last week the show was playing. I live in PA and at the time was able to get into NYC a lot and I had seen the show 30 times but hadn't run into any of the guys. I went up one night after work just to line up at the barricade because I had drawn Billie twice and I got them blown up for him and really wanted to give them to him. So after the show everyone is waiting for him to come out and he does - and he really tried to sign every single thing people were throwing at him. When he got to me I held up the drawings and I kind of had to shout that I had drawn them for him. One was of a picture taken during AI album and one was of him performing as St Jimmy in the Broadway show. It took him a second to see what I was holding and then his mouth dropped and he was frozen in place. he said they were incredible and looked into my eyes with such gratitude. I could have said so many things about the bands influence on my life but I couldn't really talk because it was a little surreal. I had written on the back of them my name and also "you taught me how to live" because I figured I wouldn't be able to say much out loud. He thanked me and gave the drawings to Adrienne who was waiting in the car, then kept signing and then I realized I forgot to ask for a picture! but amazingly the woman next to me called him back and was like 'wait Billie just one more picture for her!' and he saw me and smiled, came back and got a picture with me. such a little gesture but still means a lot to me cause he could have easily just pretended he didn't hear anything and kept it moving. a woman across the barricade was awesome enough to film the whole thing for me and she gave me a copy in exchange for a free print of my st jimmy drawing! she also videod Adrienne looking at the drawings in the car and she was saying how amazing they were and that whoever drew them is very talented. she was showing them to the other people in the car (I'm not sure who else was in there). id love to share the drawings I did and picture of me and Billie but I'm not sure how to do so on here! anyway that's my brief meeting with Billie.

PursuitOfEpicness Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 @bloodymurderbitch this probably goes without saying, but they're so good! they're probably some of the best drawings i've ever seen! Glad you got to meet Billie
Khaleesi. Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 i've been on stage with them and i've also met mike and tre after a show. they're all honestly the coolest guys ever.
belinda jane Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 i've been on stage with them: (sorry for the awful quality, as i'm at work at the moment) it was pretty insane. i ran to hug billie and he literally picked me up from the floor in a massive bear hug and he was laughing. then i ran to hug mike.. that was pretty awkward. i played air-drums with tre (full video can be seen on youtube - just search belinda on stage) haha. it's honestly the most surreal experience, and it really didn't hit me until i got off stage.

belinda jane Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Just now, Billie Hoe said: you mean #cereal? forgot that was the word of the day thanks to mike i meant cereal. thank you!
PursuitOfEpicness Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 How do you guys get noticed? Or is it just luck? That's so cool!

When I got up for Longview, I started waving my hands and flipping shit yelling Billie! And he looked right at me and told me to get my ass up there.
gd86arg Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I have a review in my facebook profile but it's in spanish
spark in the night Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 On February 21, 2016 at 0:09 PM, Brooklyn Baby said: Edit: This "story" was really impersonal, so I'm gonna share my favorite Green Day story, which actually doesn't involve meeting the band at all. I've told it on here before but that was on my old account that's history now so here we go. I was front row at some show or another standing in front of one of those little risers on the stage. During Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Billie came over and put his foot on the riser and leaned down towards the crowd, he was pretty much in my face. Everyone around me (of course) whipped out their phones and started taking pictures except for me (because I'm a snob and believe in experiences over photos). So he looks right into my eyes and sang I don't even remember how many lines of BOBD, maintaining eye contact the whole time. I'm sobbing, natch, and singing along and that connection was easily my favorite thing that's ever happened at a show and means more to me than any other experience I've had at a Green Day show. Omg what a sweet story. I had a similar experience with Awolnation last year and I died. Eye contact cuts right through the soul
armatage Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I never got to interact with the band really but when I went to their gig three years ago, I was front row and at some point I've been watching Mike, and he saw me, pointed his finger at me and winked. I think I died a little inside. And then I had made a sign for Billie to pick me to sing longview (it said Hey ho! Billie Joe! Pick me to sing longview!) and when he came out and saw that sing, he laughed at me. He ended up asking who knows how to play it on the guitar, and I did, but it was so unexpected I was so dumbstruck and didn't shout anything, so he picked some guy from the crowd. Maybe next time.
TimmyChunks Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I went to their show in Albany with my wife shortly after we were married in '09. Our wedding song was Last Night on Earth, and I like to think we were the first ever since the wedding was only a week after 21CB came out! We got to our hotel early (around 3pm) and decided to take a stroll and get some Starbucks. As luck would have it, we ran into Jason right outside Starbucks. The guy was cool as hell, we walked and talked about all kinds of awesome stuff (GD, PHGP, Network) and also mentioned that LNOE was our wedding song and we'd love to hear it. His reply was basically "that's so awesome, but we never play it live, so I'm not sure we can- I'll ask the guys". Well, we finished talking as he was coming up to their hotel, and their tour buses were right out front. He told us we could ask the rest of the guys if we wanted to hang tight by the buses. So naturally, we weren't going anywhere! Tre came out a few minutes later with a playstation strapped to his back. Standard Tre. I was almost numb from shock since I had been a hard core fan since Dookie came out. We both immediately went over and made the same request, which he seemed to enjoy, and then we wandered around with him for about five minutes while he tried to find the right bus. Just the three of us, talking the whole time. I couldn't believe it, he even gave me a whacky handshake when he finally found the right bus and went in. Mike was out a minute later. He also talked to us for a couple minutes but was more subdued. Bill Schneider was with him and enjoyed my random PHGP compliment. We repeated the request and he said he'd put in a good word. He seemed tired but was very friendly and a gentleman. During all of this, Adrienne was hanging around with the kids- I also found this cool but we didn't talk to them, just thought it would be a bit much and weird! Glad we acted like normal people and didn't bug the family! Lastly, Billie came out with his newsboy cap and sunglasses, with his tour security guy (I forget his name, but he's at all the shows) next to him. My wife ran up to him but the security guy motioned to stay back- we definitely weren't going to be able to wander around and have a long conversation with him like Tre. So, from 10 ft. away, I blurted out that LNOE was our wedding song and we'd love a dedication. He was cheerful and said "cool, I'll play it for you guys!". We were floored and thanked him- he was very friendly but that was the extent of it as his security guy basically escorted him right onto the bus. They put on an absolute monster of a show and we had great seats- right off the stage next to Mike above the floor- and we had almost forgot about the request. Then, the acoustic segment before the encore started, and instead of doing the typical acoustic medley, Billie played an incredible, heartfelt, full version of LNOE. My wife and I shed a few tears during the performance for sure. It was amazing, one of those moments that you will never forget. To this day we're both very touched by the moment, if I ever have a chance to speak with them again I'm going to thank them profusely (and probably embarrass myself while doing so, but that's ok!).
Billie Hoe Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 This is quickly turning into my favorite thread. they are such sweethearts
dallasthemenace Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 man, im gonna have to sit and type up a lengthy couple paragraphs soon. ive been very fortunate in having met them a few times from nimrod through 21st century... one of my favorite tidbits being the time tre bummed a rolling paper from me so he could smoke a joint after the show. but yes, they are all incredibly nice and humble guys.
Josh100_3 Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 If I ever met them I would probably yell out that they're the reason I picked up Guitar 14 years ago. and then feel awkward that I'm a 26 year old dude fanboying
.Holly Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I got onstage at the Halloween gig at the MEN arena on the 2009 UK tour. Billie pulled me up to sing KYE. That moment where he came over and pointed at me and said "you" still makes my heart stop. I sung along, jumped about in a dazed state and then he got me to do a stage dive. It was epic Having been such a huge fan for 5 years by that point, it was so great that that happened to me. Such a wonderful memory to treasure in return for being a crazy fan. I really love that they do stuff like that.

I think he made my life (at that point in time). Also I got myself noticed by painting myself pink and dressing up, which I did because it was Halloween, but it worked out well! So if anyone wants to get onstage I would recommend making yourself as visible as possible.
Karlachu Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I've never met them, but i had Adrienne hand me a permanent marker at an AI broadway show to sign the wall, and i just stood there stunned. Then, at my last concert for them, i was standing in line at will call, and here come's Billie just strolling by all of us...we all just stood there and awkwardly waved back...very confused. Hahah!

Maid Meringue Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I'd love to meet them outside of a concert, but am I the only one who does not want to be pulled on stage? For those who have been on stage, how were you able to get back to your spot? If you're a bigger person, how were you able to get over the barricade, and then jump into the crowd afterwards without crushing anyone?

If you're a bigger person, how were you able to get over the barricade, and then jump into the crowd afterwards without crushing anyone? No you're definitely not the only one! When he asked for people to come on stage during the Emirates show I was being very quiet and tried to make myself as small as possible, even though I wasn't even barrier or anywhere near it. Kinda like you avoid eye contact when your teacher starts randomly calling up people. I'm scared I'd make a complete fool out of myself, mess up lyrics or annoy them somehow or how I would have to refuse if he'd tell me to crowd surf or how the audience would let me drop if I did it... I keep imagining horror scenarios But honestly, I would be scared shitless of meeting them outside of a concert too. This almost happened to me like 3 times in 3 days after the London show (Bowie (?) exhibit, Heathrow airport, Frankfurt) and I imagined how I would go up to them, like... If I saw them I would probably cry first and then awkwardly follow them like some kind of stalker because I would be too shy to speak to them or ask them for a photo/autograph. Only then to be tackled by their bodyguard and die or something because I was behaving like a stalker. If that wouldn't kill me, I would die out of embarrassment. But I would also kick myself for not talking to them. But I would want to leave them alone and give them privacy. But also I would want a photo. It's a dilemma. Like I said, horror scenario. I can already imagine myself walking up behind them and clearing my throat or something and then not getting a word out and having them stare at me like the fucking idiot I am. Maybe I would yell hi and run away before they get the chance to say something.
