GuitarPunk94 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 imo its way to early to talk about a possibly setlist .. let them first even announce a new album officially
Hermione Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Before I'd seen Green Day live I wanted to see their "standard" setlist with all the songs with special on stage traditions attached to them SO much , I was praying they wouldn't change their setlist too much for the 21st CB tour and even made sure to choose the first night rather than the second night they were playing at venue I was going to see them for the first time in just in case they decided to play a whole album or something on the second night. I didn't want to miss out on seeing any of the classics performed in the classic way and was very happy to finally see them all. I couldn't have cared less about seeing "rare" songs. Even though I've seen them a few times now and do enjoy seeing them do different songs/changing things up (eg playing Dookie in full) their traditional on stage antics are still my favourite thing so I'd still rather see a mostly "classic" setlist, they've gradually perfected it over the years to make it as entertaining as possible. I hope they'll keep staples that have certain traditions attached such as King for a Day, Longview and Good Riddance, and that songs they play a lot but fairly straightforwardly such as She or Holiday are the type chosen to go to make room for new songs. But either way I think they probably won't change things that much, they seem very fond of songs where they can get up to traditional antics and Dookie and AI songs so I can't see them sacrificing too many of them. I think it's most likely the tiny number of 21st CB, trilogy and other albums that aren't Dookie or AI songs would go first. 15 hours ago, JJ1964 said: But I think closing with a pump ass song would leave me wanting more. It would almost make the concert not completed. The slow song brings you down after being so pumped for 3 hours. Yeah at Shepherds Bush in 2012 they finished with American Idiot and 99 Revolutions and no slow songs afterwards and it did feel unfinished. It kind of worked for that show since it was a particularly intense and unrelenting one, but it still left you feeling you'd missed out without the slow bit at the end even though it was the same length. I think it's better to stick with a pump ass song to "finish" before the encore and then Good Riddance (ideally preceded by Brutal Love or another good slow one) to finish the encore, you can't beat it. 2 hours ago, BillyjoelxkidXx said: No it's not. placenta Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I really hope they will shake up their setlist a bit for the next tour. Truth is that they have a history of being very predictable in terms of setlists on their previous tours (with a few exceptions), so I'm not expecting too much. I understand that they need to run through all their biggest hits, but they should be able to throw in a few more surprises as well. Bruce Springsteen almost never duplicates a setlist and every show is unique. I think this helps him to "stay fresh" and in touch with his back catalogue (+fans) in a completely different way than the bands that run though the same setlist every night.

The thing is, I can't imagine 1 trilogy song ever making the cut again. I know the trilogy bombed, but they could at least play a few of them. I remember them talking about having too many songs to play live is a 'good problem to have' and that's true. 2016 marks 30 years of Green Day and they need to make this tour go down in history as the greatest event they've ever done. I would say 20 hits (a few from each album), 4 new songs, 1 of the live staples that make a green day show and then a rotating roster of 2 either really old or really rare songs. BUt I'm dreaming. We're probably going to get basically the same setlist they've had since 2004, but with a few new songs thrown in. But that's okay. Like everone is saying, Green Day have perfected the Rock Show.
scattysmum Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I saw them 4 times during the 99 Revolutions Tour & twice late 2012, when they were getting the songs 'out there'. Let Yourself go was a definite crowd-pleaser & my personal favourites from the Trilogy that they performed were SWTRLF & Stay the Night.. Brutal Love (very reminiscent of Sam Cook's Bring it on home to me), was disappointing the 1st time I saw it, but I got used to it & by the 4th & it is a good closer... however, by then, Billie Joe was back singing Good Riddance as a 2nd encore! What abut 21 Guns from 21CB? I know they fell out of love with the song, but it has been used to great effect in the American Idiot musical. Jesus of Suburbia is non-negotiable for me, it has to be there. Apart from that? I'll take whatever they want, old or new

Except they never played LYG or fuck time on the Trilogy tour?? They played those on the small club dates to introduce the albums but IIRC they didn't make the set list for the tour itself.

Let Yourself Go did get played quite a bit actually though I'm not sure it really works so well in a large venue. Seem to remember they did a random transition from SWTRLF into Fuck Time once as well
Chin for a Day Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I think Nightlife should be the new song that they pull someone on stage for. Billie can pick one woman from the audience to do the Lady Cobra part. The riots that would result would be legendary.
Cruise Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Let Yourself Go still works in a large venue. I saw them in a stadium and it was excellent live. Along with Billie falling over when he tried to do a little jump.

Siddharth_471 Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 What about closing with The Forgotten!!!! with a whole orchestra!?! Now that will be awesome

BilIie Joe Armstrong Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 I'd forgive the lyrics if Billie played the piano.

AlissaGoesRAWR Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 You guys are suggesting the worst closers ever... Brutal Love, The Forgotten, See The Light...? Eek. Even Jesus of Suburbia felt odd as a closer in Cleveland. I'd rather have Good Riddance or a slow, acoustic anything else than those songs as closers.

So you want the same old shit they have been doing for 20 years??? Brutal Love is awesome, The Forgotten may not be great, but the thought of Billie at the piano is just too damn hot to pass up.
Steven Seagull Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Those in favour of banning Alissa for being a hater raise your hand.

Well, closing with an acoustic song or something "slow" doesn't make you go home with an eased heartbeat feeling "Oh, it least ended with a soft note". The more kickass be the closing the more one gets energetic. Btw, closing with AI or JOS is pretty odd
Ham Pascale Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Quote "We'll have this fifty-foot catwalk, right? Going right out into the audience, and while the other guys are sitting on the stage playing cello and accordion, there'll be this spotlight on me, and I'll be playing an acoustic guitar and ... I'll be wearing angel wings! And I'll have this harness on, and as I start playing, I'm lifted up in the air, up over the audience..." "And you're naked!" the drummer snorts between laughs. "With a flaming Roman candle sticking out of your ass!" This.
