That Dude Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Blink-182, Weezer and Red Hot Chili Peppers on the radio! Green Day in the studio! The only thing that could make me more excited about 2016 in music is if Nirvana would reunite and put out a brand new album this year. With Kurt and Billie working together, "pop punk" wouldn't stand a chance. I'm watching Montage of Heck at the moment and WOW - I need some tissues because it's heartbreaking. I know that it would be near-blasphemy to record a new Nirvana album with another singer, but I believe with great care and the right person it could be done. I enjoyed many of the Hall of Fame performances and so did my dad, so I think a female vocalist would be the way to go. There's just no guys I can think of that could pull off Nirvana songs with the right amount of....passion. Before I get too off topic. I just heard Red Hot Chili Peppers new single and.....it's a good song. I'm sure it will grow on me with time. But as I listened to it I found myself wondering if all our 90's band are losing their teeth, edge and maybe a little of their soul. I know bands change (RHCP have went through some MAJOR sound changes over the years) but it seems like everyone these days is making watered down songs. I'm not sure if it's an influence from 'today's rock n roll', or what. I like mellower songs. I freaking love slow songs, but I want some anger coming through my speakers at least a fraction of the time. Weezer's White Album grew on me, but it still feels watered down and lacking in emotion. RHCP's last album and their latest song, kind of watered down, no powerful emotional feeling evoked from me.... Green Day have never let me down with an album yet but with today's music scene, I'm really dang scared of what might or might not be on Green Day and Blink-182's albums when they drop. With Blink, I'm glad Tom's gone and I love Matt Skiba. But who KNOWS what California could sound like??? Anyone else notice that the album title is reemergence of Tom Delonge's "Golden Showers from the Whatever State" song? Anyway. I'm excited that 90's rock is back in action but I'd be heartbroken if they all came back and sucked. I'm a 90's kid (born in 85!) so this is kind of a big deal to me. I wish music would get dangerous again, but how can it? What could any rock band do that's never been done before? Another though I had today as I listened to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on the ride home: "Mulatto". It was never a controversy (as far as I remember) when the song came out, but I'm waiting on someone to complain about the word being said on the radio. As a white guy who occasionally dates women of other ethnicities, the word while not overtly racist, is a bit iffy. Anyway. I must go back to watching Montage of Heck. I wish the ending were different, my eyes are watering at the thought of watching the rest. I wish so badly that I didn't know how this one ends. They might very well be terrible by now, but I'd still be buying their records just the same. We could really use a band like Nirvana in 2016. Maybe Green Day's Album 12 will have some out of tune screaming. Probably not. If Every song sounds like "Xmas Time of Year" the world is doomed.

Well then it wouldn't be Nirvana. 99% of the songs, lyrics and creativity was Kurt and that even becomes more apparent in montage of heck. Without him it's not Nirvana. Sure you could get the remaining members plus someone new to tour the old stuff (never going to happen) But new material?? it wouldn't be Nirvana.

When referring to "people" do you mean GD fans or the average music listener - because unless it's a good album the average listener won't purchase it.

Right, which is why we say "NO" to Hobo Billie Joe...marketing this album to the average listener includes publishing photos of an attractive, non-hobo frontman.

I kinda disagree - I mean 3/4s of my collection are pretty ugly mugs - if it is an excellent album it will sell itself.

DAMMIT!!!! I hate when I freakin' agree with you!!! People are buying albums because they like the music. The fact that they find someone attractive may help them notice the band, but if the music is shite, the music is shite. I wouldn't kick Jon Bon Jovi out of my bed but he doesn't come any where near being on my ipod.

Don't get me wrong BJ is a dilf but I don't buy GD albums because of that.

Other than the Jon part, he is hot as hell. The music sucks, but still hot as hell.

Second favourite son Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 I have a feeling that something's going to happen today, an announcement of some kind, a studio clip, something. Just a hunch but you never know... Spoiler You can all laugh at me in 12 hours when I'm proven completely wrong.

Steven Seagull Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 How about if we all stop speculating about things we don't know and wait 'till real news come out? Notice how I put that passive aggressive smiley at the end.
Clockwise Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 This thread is about speculation at this point tho We'll see, I think things will happen when we least expect them....! Oy.
Sanity Loan Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 We're not at page 126 yet guys... no announcement yet. On 5/8/2016 at 9:23 AM, Matt. said: $5 goes to the person who correctly guesses what page this thread will be on by the time the album is announced. I'll guess 126.

Revrad = 6 letters Armstrong + Dirnt + Cool = 18 letters Billie Joe + Mike + Tre = 16 letters With the # in #revrad taken to mean 'number', it is therefore clear that a formal album announcement will happen on 6/18/16, which is the 18th of June 2016 using the American date system.

Actually, 4 members since Jason has been a member since those 3 recordings of lesser interesting noise that was created, so to speak. Based on those facts, no Illuminati has been confirmed yet. Green Day is 2 words and 4 members. 42=16 4x2=8 The album will be announced on August 16th.
