Siddharth_471 Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 Well it can't be said that Green Day rip-offs but they get influenced by many other songs. For example Jesus Of Suburbia (I Don't Care- After 10-12 times " I don't care" then the main verse) will sound a lot similar to Black Sabbath's Children Of The Grave, but I don't think they are trying to copy others they are just influenced. Sometimes they modify riffs of their own earlier songs to mold them in new ones. Like the bridge of Haushinka is similar to Stay The Night, Fashion Victim is similar to Minority (that small part before the harmonium section) though they both are from Warning and sometimes I even feel that Who Wrote Holden Caulfield's bass line is a bit similar to Longview.

Joe. Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 I know what the OP means, I thought the same when I first heard the song. Just like everyone else I don't think Green Day ripped off Nirvana, or vice versa, but the riffs are similar. I think Billie-Joe said in an interview he saw Nirvana live at a university party (i may well be imagining things here) so I guess it's possible for GD to have stolen the riff, but very unlikely

That was before STLS was even demoed.

PursuitOfEpicness Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I had no idea Cobain saw them that's pretty dope. Doubt he decided to copy the riff though

But odds are Cobain was too busy having fun and getting wasted than stealing from young underground bands
