Well it can't be said that Green Day rip-offs but they get influenced by many other songs. For example Jesus Of Suburbia (I Don't Care- After 10-12 times " I don't care" then the main verse) will sound a lot similar to Black Sabbath's Children Of The Grave, but I don't think they are trying to copy others they are just influenced. Sometimes they modify riffs of their own earlier songs to mold them in new ones. Like the bridge of Haushinka is similar to Stay The Night, Fashion Victim is similar to Minority (that small part before the harmonium section) though they both are from Warning and sometimes I even feel that Who Wrote Holden Caulfield's bass line is a bit similar to Longview.

This thread adds nothing to music. I dislike this thread and topic and i don't only click to threads i like

If you don't find a thread interesting the solution really is not to post in it, all you're doing is help keeping it at the top of the page. If you don't post then once the people who do see something worthwhile have posted what they want to post it'll drop down the page and go away. Visiting a thread to complain about not liking it will never make it get closed so just ignore it and let it live or die on its own.

I know what the OP means, I thought the same when I first heard the song. Just like everyone else I don't think Green Day ripped off Nirvana, or vice versa, but the riffs are similar. I think Billie-Joe said in an interview he saw Nirvana live at a university party (i may well be imagining things here) so I guess it's possible for GD to have stolen the riff, but very unlikely :)

Actally, it was exactly the opposite - Cobain saw Green Day in January 1991 at dorm party in Evergreen College. That was before STLS was even demoed.

I question that tho i wish we knew exact date as Cobain wasn't in Washington for most of January as he was staying with Buzz and Debbi  in Cali

I had no idea Cobain saw them that's pretty dope. Doubt he decided to copy the riff though

Could be then I know Nirvana played there a day or so later so possible

but Christie Road wasn't played there so not like Cobain heard it and jacked it

We don't know anything about it yet, maybe Green Day did play Christie Road at this gig after all. But odds are Cobain was too busy having fun and getting wasted than stealing from young underground bands :P

My point stands, just the other way around :P Thanks for the correction, I wasn't too sure

Well first known performance for Christie was 4/26/91 I don't see why they'd perform it on 1/13 and then go 3 months until playing it again

kinda sad we didn't see a Cobain and Billie collabo

There's only this many recordings from this period, so we can't really tell.
