Fuzz Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 Ok, lets get back to the song and not bitching at each other.
Chin for a Day Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 I've listened to this song several times now. It is cheesy, but christmas songs are meant to be cheesy, so I'm fine with that. I think the problem is that I think it is billies worst vocals since insomniac. The way he raises his voice sounds like he is trying to channel Bob dylan.

PleasedToMeetMe Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 I really like it, sounds awesome. Kind of reminds me of As Far as I Know by Paul Westerberg. Vocal effects aside, the production is really good. Sounds like a cross between Warning and Tre. I've always said the band should self produce their next album and have Chris Dugan mix it.

Todd Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 Eh, After a second listen, I like it 50% better. It's nice to have a new Green Day song for the first time since State of Shock. Nightlife can resume it's place at the bottom of my list
tdlyon Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 Are people seriously picking this song apart? Is anyone even going to listen to this again after today?
Jimmy Strummer Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 I love it!!! It's better than all the crap Christmas music I heard at work this past month!! And a hell of a lot better than some OTHER punk rock Christmas songs/albums (I'm talkin' to YOU, Bowling For Soup!) Yeah the lyrics are cheesy and mostly just buzz words, but it was a song that was made for us fans to enjoy as a special treat, and enough effort was put into it to make me feel a good amount of Christmas cheer.
BetterThanAir Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 Finally on a laptop for the first time in a few days, just to write in this thread! Fuck mobile version. I have been listening to the song on repeat all day, and I honestly don't get what there is to hate about it. It sounds like an average Christmas song. It's nothing that's meant to have 'deep meaning' or developed lyrical content. It's literally just about Christmas...so what's the over analyzation for? Also, I assumed the change of voice was just used for a specific style of the song they were aiming to get. I think it made it sound more festive. Obviously Billie Joe could have just used his own natural singing voice and it would have been lovely, or even done a cover of a song, but for what the song is, it's cute. To me, it's catchy and very upbeat. This song has actually really cheered me up for Christmas. It was a delightful surprise. I'm very happy with it. I now have a cheesy Christmas song by Green Day on my iPod, how nice. My brother actually said that the song reminded him of There She Goes by The La's: I think it kind of does, too. loling at this thread though huehuehue.

Which it isn't. Ah fuck up mate. This thread was 4 pages of half a dozen people saying it was crap before I even read it, nevermind posted in it. The song is badger piss, I don't give a fuck if people like it, they're welcome to listen to any shit tune that takes their fancy. Gimme a call when Miley covers it , then you'll have my interest.
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted December 25, 2015 Author Posted December 25, 2015 Yeah, I don't even care enough to debate with anyone about this anymore. But let's just say 12 hours after listening to it 3 or 4 times, I can't even remember any of the lyrics or even the tune, so I think it's safe to say it wasn't very memorable. I'm just going to pray it's either a) a leftover b-side from the trilogy era or b) literally the first thing they did when they entered the studio (to record a new album) and they still haven't shaken all of the trilogy recording tendencies.

I assumed it was option B; something they just walked in, came up with, and released it. Very simplistic.
Steven Seagull Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 So I listened to the song like 50 times yesterday.
Whatsinaname Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 I've listened to this song 50 times just now! Thank you Billie Joe for making my Xmas Edit: I didn't read this thread because, it's GDC drama as usual.... I love his songwriting. Peace and Love on Earth. Not original... "Given thanks to strangers. Christmas time of the year" Genius...
Private Ale. Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 this is just a gift, if you take it too seriously the ponnies will kill you. p.s: such a great song .love it even more today.
Ritz Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 It sounds like Walk Away but I love it. Great to see Green Day in holiday spirit!
Tubbie Head Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 They were so nice to record this and surprise us like that, but still people are complaining about the song being bad. XD I've been wanting a green day chritmas song for years! Finally got one! Thanks Green Day!
JellyTime Posted December 25, 2015 Posted December 25, 2015 I love it just because it's great surprise! I didn't expect anything, so simple catchy single is 100% more than I wanted

Lyrics: Season's greeting cards and Christmas Lights light up the city At the end of the year This time I got no resolutions Giving thanks for nothing But joy into a new year Tonight friends are what it's worth Peace and love on Earth And another year giving thanks again The sleigh bells deck the halls with good will Say a prayer for lost souls Xmas time of the year Tonight friends are what it's worth Peace and love on Earth And another year giving thanks again Somewhere around a plastic manger Giving thanks to strangers Xmas time of the year Thanks for this! I really like the lyrics.
