DarcyJ76 Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Thank you! And filters are bad, or just not what we prefer?

He seems to have left the thread in a tiff and I think he'd benefit from hearing it from someone other than me. It's not that you express negative opinions of the band though. It's that you often do it in such a way that it's obvious you're trying to rain on the parade of people expressing positive opinions. I don't know about Andres but I know you're a fan of Green Day, the objection to posts knocking down people for enjoying a song doesn't come from thinking you hate the band, it's just because it's a drag that you have to call something shit multiple times and criticise people for enjoying it instead of just saying you dislike it and why.

They've never cared about whether or not their music is well-received, so it shouldn't come as any surprise when they do what they want to do regardless of what other people think. And besides, the same argument I'm making about this could be applied to the Trilogy - they were going for light-hearted fun, and that's what it was, so there's no real problem there either. I see your point but at the same time I think they could've make a way better light hearted album than the Trilogy. Dookie and kerplunk weren't serious either and these were both better.

Dookie and Kerplunk were both dealing with frustration to some extent, they weren't the darkest things they've done but they weren't entirely light-hearted, the Trilogy didn't really have that. I'm not saying I think the Trilogy is as good as either of those, but their messages aren't really comparable.
Hermione Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Anyone working out the lyrics of this? Also I believe they should put out the dirty Christmas album they made while working on American Idiot so I can compare and contrast a cheery and wholesome festive GD song with some x-rated versions
Clockwise Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I love the melancholy at the "And another year..." part.
Private Ale. Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 damn now i feel bad for these guys.First, i really enjoyed it and all but if it's gonna create a whole new "let's bash new green day" thing then i wish they wouldn't do that.I wonder if people are that selective for the real gifts given to them for christmas. That would be a way to destroy a whole culture. They don't expect people to buy this song.a gift. damn it.

Billie has used filters since Warning it's just wasn't as noticeable until the trilogy albums but in music every vocals gets some filter use when it goes thru the mixing and mastering phase

Clockwise Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I'm a fan of the filters, actually. They sound cool!
SuperXCsabre495 Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I never thought of this song as a serious recording other than to just throw something together for fun and release it at Christmas time so I'm surprised to see such backlash from many of you guys on here. I can agree that the vocal filter seems a bit excessive and I hope they don't use it to this extent on the new album but if they do then oh well. I enjoyed it for what it was, just a simple Christmas song. Either way I'm excited for the new album and what direction they go in after the trilogy.
BetterThanAir Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I LALALALOOOOVE IT! <3 Just what I needed for this Christmas.
Christian's Inferno! Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 I don't think they intended it to be a cheap, throwaway song and I don't think it's bad. It's decent enough. Although I don't think this randomly released song indicates what the sound of the next album will be. If they do go in the direction of this sound though, it's basically just further into the Trilogy sound although I doubt that's the direction they want to go. Every album they've made has been different and this won't be an exception. People who are saying "their next album will be shit" just because of the sound of this random christmas song is being stupid

We praise them when they don't which unfortunately hasn't happened in a while. Nothing more or less. GDC's sometimes a bunch of unimpressed cunts that's true. Also yes or to be precise, a lot of people including me suck at pretending they like a bad gift.
Gwen Stacy Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 It sounds like someone took "Rain" by The Beatles and Carpe Diem and put them in a blender... AND I LOVE IT!! NEW GREEN DAY MUSIC! Thank you for a gift I've been waiting for all year
xBlaydeRx Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 It's so rediculous that you people think green day is gonna go all out on a Christmas song. You people are never satisfied. The least you can do is be grateful they even released a new, song not bitch and moan. Stop with the trilogy horseshit already, the new album will sound nothing like it. Even green day themselves know it was a bad idea after

I thought the trilogy was okay with a few great songs (in my opinion) so I enjoyed what they released but I know there's filler. When you release 37 songs you can't expect all 37 to be Billboard number 1 hits. Plus we had no knowledge of this song or them releasing anything today so I was pleasantly surprised and didn't have any expectations like some people on here.

But honestly wish the next album is as good or better than American idiot so I'm also guilty of that. What I do know is that the next album is gonna sound nothing like the trilogy which is one of the best thing that green day could do right now. It's funny cause today I was saying to myself "green day should release a new song as a gift to us" and what do you know, it actually happened lol. These people need to chill

I like the trilogy and I think if you made 1 album of the best songs it'd be one of the best gd albums. (But I prefer it as 3 albums anyway). The problem with the trilogy is if you follow it up with a 4 year break before making another album, it kinda defeats the purpose. Sure, after making 3 albums they deserve a break but it's been a long time now
