Merry Christmas! Here's a new Green Day song

I don't get why release date indicates a song is "meant to be bad." These excuses are just pitiful.

Can you all take a chill pill and enjoy christmas! Its meant to be a feast of love!
And to be honest I'm thankful for that song, it made me smile and thats the Christmas spirit!

So I wish you all a fucking great Christmas eve! dont be mad spread love! <3

I will enjoy my Christmas, emphasis on the CHRIST. I will be playing this song to the baby Jesus later tonight at church, and if he cries, this song is shit.

Who the fuck said it was supposed to be a cheap, throwaway song? Why do we keep giving this band all these excuses? What other band do we say "Oh it was just meant to be a shitty song, so it's not actually bad."

Of course it's a cheap throwaway song, it was put out for free without fanfare, which is almost literally cheap throwaway.

I don't like it when any band/artist does a cheap throwaway song. If you're gonna do something do it right.

Here's a proper Christmas song, not some half-arsed attempt.

If they want to have fun then why shouldn't they?

I'm glad they had fun. It's still shit.

Can we analyze how the font and background are the same as the trilogy? And this sounds like a trilogy song? So lets just assume it's all one thing before we see an essay about how people don't like the new direction Green Day is going in.

Only if you're expecting something they weren't trying to do. They wanted to play around in the studio and have some fun with it without any pressure to do something major, and that's exactly what they did.

I honestly didn't even notice the font or background, thanks for pointing that out. If it is indeed the same as the Trilogy, I'm expecting every person in this thread wanking off to the song to have absolutely no memory of their doing so in about 6 months, and for them to actively loath the song with every fibre of their being.

I will admit, "it's bad because it's supposed to be bad" doesn't make much sense...

I guess the only way it makes sense is if it's something they put up quickly just to make money (aka let's dig up something old that takes little effort to present that we can sell for profit now) but this was released for free, so that doesn't cut it, either.

I dunno, I guess I was always told "write every story like it's a front-pager." Even if your expectations for something aren't great, you shouldn't strive to be mediocre if your name is attached to something.

No, that's how they made Foxboro Hot Tubs... :P

No one is forcing you to like them or their songs. If you don't like their music you can find other music you like. Posting on Green Day forum with only goal to shit on every new song they release just to "look cool" is so sad and pathetic.

You remind me of the republicans who criticize Obama for not being the second coming of Jesus because that's what people expected, when most people didn't really expect that. Responses here have been pretty middle of the road. Nothing over the top claiming this to be the best thing Green Day has released. But you see anything beyond complete disregard as "wanking off" to it, so you write something as idiotic as "GDC has to be better than this". This is what you do. I could write a book about the weird psychology you use around here.

I can't handle how much maturity you've compressed into a single post.

And I feel like you're not understanding me, "shit" is entirely subjective and if you're expecting something the band isn't then obviously you're not going to like it.

It's only bad if you're expecting something other than what it's trying to be though. If they did release this under the Foxboros name I'm sure none of us would be having this discussion, so I really don't see the problem.

Really, this all smacks of the Nirvana fallacy.

If you're not like that, that's cool.so many people are like that. many people like to shit on new stuff without giving it a chance. If you read some youtube comments you'd understand what i said.So many people give up on them just because they're not cool anymore.

You're right, attempting to objectively analyse and dissect a fun song put out as a Christmas present is a much better way of spending Christmas Eve than enjoying the surprise for what it is with other fans of the band. You're so much more mature than us for doing so.

And you sound like the Democrats who mindlessly praise and defend him. Anything better than "well, that was underwhelming and a bit crap" is over the top when you're describing something this bad. The whole "GDC is better than this" thing was obviously a joke about how someone as relentlessly daft as DookieLukie was making the most sense out of anyone. But again, you twisted it to fit your narrative. It's a weird thing you do, it's like you want to pigeonhole me as a hater so badly. I'd get it checked out if I was you.

Never said anything about being more mature, but I'm certainly having a lot of fun. How about you?

I never said it was. And, again, as you well know, I don't rain on every parade. I wrote a glowing review of Green Day's HOB show earlier this year, which is one of the most repped posts on GDC. But y'know, whatever fits your narrative.

Everyone has their own "right" and "wrong". I love this song. I love Billies voice, I love the lyrics, everything. WOuld be so much better if you stopped bringing negative thoughts. Peace and Love On Earth

Hope you have a shit Christmas. Hope Rudolph shits down your chimney and Santa drinks all your whiskey and passes out in the fireplace, leaving his charred remains for the children to find.

There, now I sound as ridiculous as you do.

So I celebrate my 10-year anniversary of becoming a Green Day fan by listening to Bullet in a Bible (the first album of theirs I got) and then I see they've released a new song!

Eh, it's ok. It's not their best, it's not their worst. I don't like the guitars, and I don't like the vocal filter, but the solo is decent and it's suitably festive.

I truthfully don't understand this logic. Lower your expectations and suddenly something becomes good? Maybe you're not disappointed then, sure, but that doesn't suddenly make something that's bad become good. It just makes you not disappointed.

Obviously I wasn't expecting anything. It's a surprise Christmas song, after all. But I can say after I listen to it "eh, it's just OK" and that doesn't necessarily mean I had high expectations or that I'm being a dick just for the sake of being one.

Oh dear, please don't read YouTube comments... There's really no point. :P

They've been giving us mediocre songs for too long that's why people are judging it harder than it should be. And I actually understand them. After the trilogy they know everyone thinks it wasn't as good as the other albums and they go in the studio have fan and give as a song that's not really good again. Someone has to say them they can't just shit good songs and even if they thought they did they tried it and it din't work. So I'd love for someone who works with them stops being a ball licker and tells them the truth.

Long story short: If it wasn't for the disappointment of the trilogy i'd say "it's ok it's just a free christmas song." but now after the trilogy the next song we hear is this seems like they haven't or can't change for the better. High hopes for the next album though i hope they deliver.

If that means I'd be spouting the mountain of crap you just did, I hope to god I never do.
